2020 here and I’m trading in my vtx 1300r Honda. This is exactly the bike I wanted from Triumph and what I consider a perfect machine for me. The vtx has served me well and I only bought it because it was a ridiculously cheap trade in with very low miles. I’m actually getting more than I paid for it. Looking forward to many smiles and miles on my new speed twin.
Looks like an Honda CB350 with modern rims. I think that since they bastardized the Thruxton R with Ducati parts, they probably should have thrown these wheels on it for good measure. All the lighter bits too. I'm sure it's a great bike as Triumphs tend to be, but good lookin it ain't.
@@torqueofthedevil8145 It is what? Good? Yes, I'm sure it is. Just looks like a UJM. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just the Japanese already do this. I can't fault Triumph for cashing in on this look too if that's the latest fad. I just prefer Brit bikes that look more British.
Not sure if anyone gives a damn but if you're stoned like me during the covid times then you can watch all the new movies on Instaflixxer. Have been watching with my gf for the last few weeks xD
It's not bad for a "classic"... but, it tends to not finish turns very well in stock form... needs improving... but, if you like a fixer upper or a challenge (as I do)... it's great!
Great review, congratulations mate! I love this bike and it wasn't for the fact that Triumph has produced the 1200 XE Scrambler, and I happen to love off road adventure, I would be buying it!
This is a great motorcycle. It has edged the Thruxton as the premier model classic for Triumph. It is such a nice ride, so comfortable in comparison and very elegant. I think it actually is a better package than the RNineT - better handling and much better around town. It is not a "competitor" really for the Z900RS - not the same kind of machine, apart from reminding one of motorcycles of the 60s and 70s. And one last thing - I understand the idea that this is a "retro" or modern classic, but really, Triumph has never stopped making these bikes! It is only "retro" insofar as it doesn't look like a Ninja 900. But really, this is just what Triumph has been doing, in different forms, since forever.
I agree with Arthur! OBTW, my thought is that Triumph just gets what riders want and are nimble enough to get new models into the market place quickly-ish.
A very attractive, well proportioned bike and a great base upon which to develop the R version. I'm on my third trumpet, all triples, love the triples but this beauty might turn my head. It's priced well and I'm looking forward to a shootout between this the Kawa 900, RnineT and others. I'm sure it will be up there on price, performance and looks.
@@sidharthpalakkode5509 The z900 has 4-cyl motor with 108 hp, so it does have a power advantage, but If I were going off look & aesthetics I'd take the Speed Twin all day, that thing is beautiful!

is it not just a more power and obviously modified street twin rather than a changed thruxton?

Nop.. it is the other way around... IT is based on the 1200 engine and Thrux frame (and some other components), and not on the smaller sibling being nelarged.
I own Suzuki Bandit 1200 k6, how bandit could be compared to twin speed. Honestly I am scared of my bike, I bought it as I was tempted to try difference between 600. Some people say 600 is slow staff like that I did not find 600 slow, for my riding very responding and still powerful and quick to make me alert anytime I pull the throttle. Actually first bandit I crashed so badly so I sold it as wreckage, with second I was more careful. I am thinking to sell currant bandit 1200 never tried to test limits of the bike.
Similar power outputs - unless the Bandit has an aftermarket exhaust system, which adds considerable power. But the Speed Twin 1200 will run rings round the Bandit in terms of handling and brakes - absolutely no comparison, so it'll be much easier to ride for a less experienced rider. The Bandit isn't a bad bike, but it was built to a price as a budget machine and it shows, still a great bike though.
it is not Ferrari over 100 000£, Great Britain is supposed to be fourth best economy in the world, therefore there should be some reflection on living standard of population!
@@patthewoodboy I test drove it a few weeks ago and fell in love. though feel like it's a bit of a stiffer ride but maybe I'm just paranoid and that's just what it's supposed to be. With all gear on I'm probably at around 70-75kg. Can't afford it this year but I'll get it next year for my 30th
Mark Garcia yeah you got it confused with street twin which also got an update it produces around 10hp more by using lighter cam covers and some small updates it also gets the cartridge forks and a 4 pot Brembo caliper they also included 2 riding modes triumph bonneville range has never been this better
I’m sill taking a moment to whine about the non-adjustable suspension. Also the bike would have looked a bit better with a chrome finish pipe in my opinion.
It is beyond understanding really that this bike gets all the trick components to make it lighter, and more agile and flickable than the sportier version of the 1200cc bike. This usually happens the other way around, taking a stock heavy bike and lightening it up to make a sportier version. As far as marketing is concerned it doesn't seem to make sense to me at all.......unless you pay more for the unique parts on it that aren't on the thruxton.
You did not capture the sound of the bike very well. I got to test drive the bike today up in Seattle and I can tell you that the exhaust note is superb your sound is terrible.
That would be awesome and I dunno why they can't either. Though, if you think about the fact that it's almost literally half of a supersport inline 4, 96 horsepower sounds about right. 96 x 2 would equal 192 horsepower, which is on par with all but the newest of the new inline 4s. Then again, the Triumph's displacement is roughly 1200cc, which makes it 200cc larger than an entire inline 4, so Lifted_Above may have something...
It's sort of up there, but not entirely crazy. If I wouldn't have to immediately replace the fork cartridges and put on a set of 3-way rear shocks, that price wouldn't be too bad.
For example? What similar bike is less expensive? Z900RS is sorta close and $1000 less but... meh. I'm not into the look. The sound? Also meh. R Nine T is thousands more, but amazing looking. It is T120 with alloy wheels to reduce weight. Alloy wheels are 1970s style, so new tank reflects that. If you don't like 1970s style Triumph Bonneville, don't buy.
