  • 24 Hours: Every night thousands of men and women gather in giant call centres all over India taking on a new identity for nine hours of so. They are the faces and stories behind the acronym that we know as BPO - a multi-crore business process outsourcing industry that makes headlines every day. A profession which has sparked off a fierce debate over whether it will power our nation's economic resurgence or turn India's youth into what one write provocatively called 'cyber coolies.'

      And that happens in the Philippines too. It's an asian practice. You have to support economically your parents once you work.
      I work in an outsourcing BPO too, but in El Salvador, Central America, but since we are nearshore, just 1 or 2 hours behind from the U.S so we still work during the day unlike people in India or Philippines who work in Asia.
      I'm working for order processing for medical devices so I don't take calls. My job is helping me to support my university studies and to live alone... Eventually I will get out of the BPO to work on my career field

    I've spoken to call center execs in the US aswell, some of them are clueless what they are even talking. For call center execs in india, just like in any other country, it is bread and butter for them and their families. Why make fun of them. In India people are multilingual, they speak 2-3 languages and english as well. They put in maximum effort to give 200% on the job. Respect ..maximum respect

    • @stephenharper7044
      @stephenharper7044 8 лет назад +1

      Other, than English, all,those others languages are almost the same in India. There's nothing extraordinary about being about to speak hindi & urdu altogether cause it's so similar. It's not like a person who can speak Russian, English & Arabic ( like many of RT's foreign correspondents)

    • @savoryicon

      jhen Because India is worlds largest IT hub and a lot more .. call center is not an option for a well educated Indian . and our languages are not like Tagalog which uses English scripts .. we have around 20 languages with own scripts . your country will grow more if you teach your teenagers to use condom as most of the girls are single mothers at the age of 19.

Now, Google has blocked our IPs from running campaigns (majorly billing) the US customers and mostly scams are going on. The NASSCOM or government of India did nothing. The head of NASSCOM (Raman Roy) who got famous by Spectramind (I am an ex-employee) is the one who started these scams to get more QResolve customers (the pop-up thing). What an irony!

    Honestly this is the worst sector in business processing outsourcing. Dear gawd. Low pay, long hours and being connected to that headset feels like you are in chains. There are so many better fields out there. Freelancing, biologist, video game testing. Etc. Aim for the best in life but what ever you do. Steer clear from this industry.

    Beggers can't choose , India has a severe overpopulation problem and so you don't have work , for survival somebody has to get I to these places , I know these places are real hard , take a toll on your physical and mental health , but it's good cause you still have an option , save money and invest time on what you actually are interested in like studies , you should find something better while working there , not saying it's easy but possible

      Nonsense! I get Indian helpcentre help for internet fibreoptic broadband, [Calling from UK] and they are really helpful, and always have solved the problem, and are clear speaking without a horrid fake American accent. :)

      Tushar D Tushar D Indians always sound like they are mad, Mexicans are good because most of them have been in the us and they got rid of their accent or it's barely noticeable so you couldn't tell if an agent is Mexican, but you can always tell when someone is from India because they have an ugly accent and they never seem willing to help
