I’m a trombone player in the 7th grade have recently started learning this song . As someone who plays by ear this video was a huge help to getting to rhythm down .
I've recently purchased a trombone at the age of 64 and despite I haven't played for over 40 years, (no qualifications in playing) I'm slowly getting it together thanks to your videos. My wife has finally stated how much better I'm getting. Please please, keep up these videos as I will be following very closely. By the way, any tips on playing higher notes. (No I don't have false teeth !)
I usually play long tones every day and I would reccomend investing in an arban for trombone or a melodious etudes book. That’s helped a lot with getting my range up for my all state auditions
Barry, I was surprised at how close our history is. I started playing again 3.5 years ago after not for 47 years or so. I did have a couple horns over the years, tried to take lessons once, but never got serious so I donated one and sold one. Then for whatever reason I started thinking about it more and bought a cheap Bundy on eBay. Then someone told me that if I was going to improve I needed a better horn so I bought a pro horn (no F attach) albeit 100 years old and played that for a couple years. Started having problems with straight thumb brace on bell so I bought a Conn 48H with the curved thumb which helps. We are as they say, "comeback players," which is a good thing I guess. Not sure if you ever have but I sometimes wonder how good I would be if I never stopped. Maybe up there with Christian Lindberg or Alessi. Then I come back down to reality and look forward to the next practice session. Do you have a problem keeping motivated or finding the right songs that you can play? I would love to hear how you are doing now after almost a year in. Take care and as I have hanging up in my office where I play most morning, "If you practice more you get better. If you get better it's more fun. If it's more fun you practice more. If you practice more it gets better."
Videos like this give me confidence in playing for my band. I’m practically alone in my section being it only two of us tromboners with no new ones for my sophomore year. Rest of my class has 2 to 7 people in their sections. Hope I can do my best for performance tonight at my schools home game football. Plus a invitational for Saturday. Even with 4 years (this year my 5th) of playing the trombone I still feel like I’m on my first.
dude I can't thank you enough for this, I'm 12 years out of practice, and just having someone to play along with helps give me some motivation. (im sure as a trombone player you know how boring it can be to practice by yourself with not backing tracks and just a click track lol)
You're welcome. I took up the trombone properly during the pandemic and just couldn't find fun play along tunes and of course couldn't go and play with others. I really just make these for myself but so glad others enjoy them too!
G'day Kyle, I have autism and I just love the beautiful trombone music! Such beautiful music to my ears! I've never had one, and I've never played one either! Once again, thank you so much mate!
This was so fun to play! It was so useful to listen to you play as a reference!! +++ 12/10 Thank you! I actually have only been playing trombone for the last year or so, I can't believe how good you sound when only playing 2 years! You're my role model and goal!!!!!
Thanks! I thought it sounded good so I have been practicing it to play it at my mothers wedding. Many of my fellow band members are saying it sounds really good, and they usually never compliment things so it looks like I’m doing something right.
I am in France and I play the trombone. Bravo for your videos. I subscribed to your channel. Ideas for new songs: Caravan, Mack the knife, Tiger rag, Just a gigolo, Sweet Georgia brown .... Thank you for everything.
@@KyleRaftery Any preference between the two types of instruments for you personally? Is one more difficult to reach an advanced-beginner to intermediate level on for the average person? As an amateur cellist of 5 years, I assumed that learning trombone would be an easier learning curve for me than the trumpet, just because the bone & cello mainly use bass clef from what I understand… I got a great deal on a used tenor trombone (no F-attachment/extra valve/trigger- whatever you call it) that the music store guys looked over thoroughly & said is ready to play….
Do this arrangement where you have one trombone playing the whole song and another after the 39th measure repeat back to measure 6 and then start playing at the pickup then play through until measure 24 then cut to start of 58. Btw love the vids this really helps me as I am going to 7th grade
Hi Kyle Great learning sessions you have. Very helpful and comfortable to play and exiting because it improves my sound, feeling. Very encouraging encouraging. You get a great creamy sound from your Yamaha YSL 640 (I think you play this model). I am playing for 3 yeras now and after my Conn Director, I bought myself a Yamaha YSL 446 and love it. It took me some 8 mouthpieces until I discovered the DW Heritage 6 BS. And that made all the difference (according to my teacher). For me a fine combination with this instrument. better than the Yamaha, 48S and the 51C4 that I used later. I wonder what kind of mouthpiese you are using. Keep up the good work Kyle! Best regards from the Netherlands.
Thanks Paul. Love my Yamaha YSL 640 however I agree, had to find the right mouthpiece. I use a Bach 5G although sometimes switch back to the Yamaha for a more pop sound.
I’ve notice you didn’t use your trigger for the C to the F in 1st position and you can play your low B with your tigger in 2nd position I loved the piece
Good question. Equal parts the type of trombone/mouthpiece and the way you play. My teacher is always trying to get me to be more mean and aggressive because I'm good at the soft stuff.
Thanks for the comment. There'll always be a key signature in my videos but this one starts in A minor and ends in C Major so no sharps or flats needed!
Maybe if it’s your first year or two playing and you are very young, but that f is easy. Now the f above that….. is another story as that is around where the official top end of the instrument is(yes people can play higher but this is where most people start to top out in terms of usable notes).
Trying not to be too much of a downer. Keep in mind the lyrics when playing the head of vocal tune, even if you're an instrumentalist. There's room for interpretation, but phrasing and articulations matter. An audience would notice notes way too short as they don't match lengths of words.

Great work! High notes just need patience I think. I use Christopher Bill's range building course, all about building the muscles and control slowly.
I usually play long tones every day and I would reccomend investing in an arban for trombone or a melodious etudes book. That’s helped a lot with getting my range up for my all state auditions
Try Peter Steiner’s warm up packet, it does wonders

Your channel is amazing i always was jealous of how easy it is to find resources to play along and learn guitar. You bring that to the trombone world
Thanks! Yep, so many piano resources too but not much for the poor trombonists.
thanks. getting back into trombone after i stopped playing when I left college. Lve the sheet music
The solo though 🤩
Wow just found your channel!! Great work, I’m a trombonist from Texas 🎶

Thanks! I've played trumpet for a long time so that certainly helped a lot, also the pandemic meant I had lots of time to practice!
Thanks for sharing your fun, wonderful and very useful videos. I really enjoy playing along, I'm a trombonist in North Texas
Thanks for the comment, glad you like them!

Tocas estupendamente, te felicito y agradezco tus videos que me estan ayudando mucho, gracias!!!! desde Menorca, España
Fabulous! Could you do a version in the original 3/4 as well? I love to see the differences in how it's played and interpreted.
Amazing IS incredible !!!
Sweet ! Love that style! THANKS !
Fanrastic as always.
I love Elton John's song Sacrifice; will you create an easy play trombone video of you playing Sacrifice? Thank you, sincerely, Jay Larsen
Perfect for me! Thaaanks a lot from Barcelona!
Oh Barcelona, I miss that city!
Thank you, this was a realy nice one.
Thanks Berit, appreciate your support!
Amazing!! Thank you VERY much for make our study times better!! Love you T-shirt as well…
Thank you! T-shirt was a birthday present, I love it!
Keep it up! I'm 57 and have an old student trombone- looking for a king 6b bass trombone.
This is great!
Amazing❤️

You just started trombone in 2020?! Wow! Sounding great!
Thanks! I played trumpet for a long time but I have been working very hard for the last two years!

Well spotted. I try to avoid using the trigger too much to help people watching who don't have one. It's good practice!
@@KyleRaftery true I only use my trigger when I’m first to third position but when I use a bass trombone I use the second second trigger when needed
Que maravilha! Amei!
Love all your videos Kyle. I think this one ought to be a bit more legato at the beginning.
Thanks esotericist. And really appreciate the feedback, always learning!
Cool
Bravissimo
Is the 4 above the d in measure 57 a recommended slide position or does it mean something else?

whats better trombone or trumpet
It’s difficult for me to read the notes you think you could tell me the positions ,numbers, or letters please.
Just learn how to read lil bro
Bacana...bem.pedagogico...
How do you get the trombone to sound “soft” if that makes sense I feel whenever I play it sounds “mean and aggressive”
Good question. Equal parts the type of trombone/mouthpiece and the way you play. My teacher is always trying to get me to be more mean and aggressive because I'm good at the soft stuff.
@@KyleRaftery ok thank you for the information. You are very good at playing also keep up the good work👍
Sir may I request the sheet Fly me to the moon.Thaks a lot and God Bless.
There's a link in the description, good luck!
Where can I buy this in Treble Clef?
The only problem with this That the music below doesn’t tell me if there is any sharps or flats
Thanks for the comment. There'll always be a key signature in my videos but this one starts in A minor and ends in C Major so no sharps or flats needed!
How do I learn the higher notes I’m stuck with the 9th on b flat major scale and can’t go higher
I want you to upload a video of background music only for practice.
Best place for background music is over at Patreon. All-access patrons can download all backing tracks with the sheet music.
Yo, any chance I could get piano sheet music. My work is having a resident/staff talent show and a resident and I want to try this
Unfortunately I don't often write out the piano parts, I just play from the chords but any piano version in Am/Cmaj would work. Good luck!
bruh I loved it but hitting high F is hard for some people and they can't play it as cleanly
High F is easy my guy
Thanks for the feedback, finding the right key is something I think about lots.

У меня сейчас лето и у меня куча времени по этому я буду учить все что могу на Трамбоне
what key is it in
Starts in A minor, ends in C Major which is why there's no sharps or flats in the key signature!
have you ever hit the camera while recording
Only once!
Alguien tiene la partitura en pdf. ??
Want pdf..
Hello dear sir how are you can you help me trombones sheet gives me please ..
Hi Muhammad, just have a look in the description under the video. There's a link there.

Can I request a sheet music Can you search only by Lee hi it's a beautiful song I hope you read this😁✨
I'll check it out!
What are the notes used?
Not sure what you mean?
I am a bit confused, why do you go to sixth for C and not trigger one?
Two reasons - I try to make sure all of the these arrangements are playable without a trigger and I try not to get lazy and forget where 6th is!
