I like how every SC player has their own reason for their specific fleet. Thats what I love about SC.
My fleet is focused on checking all combat roles while having almost all ships with long range capabilities. I also own some ships for unique gameplay loops.
    - Raven (stealth combat support, scouting)
    - Fury (snub combat)
    - Archimedes Emerald (racing)
    - Merlin (racing)
    - Gladius (light dogfighter)
    - Defender (only long range light to medium dogfighter in SC)
    - Vanguard Sentinel (hacking, medium combat)
    - Andromeda (heavy combat, piracy)
    - Retaliator bomber (sub-capital to capital combat)
    - Zeus Bounty Hunter (bounty hunting and piracy)
    - 600i Explorer (smallest explorer with med bay)
    - MSR (data running, smuggling)
I never thought about big multi crew ships since I want to have ingame goals. But I have the Endeavor master set in buyback just in case. Also heavy industrial gameplay loops are not for me but i can see why lots of people like that.

Forgot to include the base Furx LX. Love racing and with three great racers I'm all set for that gameplay loop. Also, the Andromeda can transport two of my racers at once. Merlin in back and Fury LX in cargo bay.

This year is my first year on Star Citizen expect for one free fly weekend in like 2020, and I've already bought 4 ships and plan to buy more. Currently I have the Galaxy w/ Cargo Module, Zeus Mk. 2 MR, Syulen, Cutter Rambler. All of my ships have LTI and spent a grand total of $800+. Not ashamed to say I've spent that much either. This is a game I've had my eye on for a very long time, and now is the perfect time to be playing it.

Nice ship fleet Farrister, i approve! All of your reasoning & thoughts behind the ships are clear to me.
For me it was a similar thought process. I am in it for the long run, i have the following fleet:
Starting from the smaller to bigger ships:
    1) Drake Cutter Scout - For my small beginner style ship, to hopefully unlock scouting as a GamePlay Loop in the future.
    2) Anvil C8R Medical Pisces - This one will always be with me, on my bigger ships. I love the idea behind a Small Shuttle with a Medical bed onboard, and a mobile ambulance! I`d love to have this ship in the Cargo Bay of my Galaxy at all times!
    3) Crusader C1 Spirit - The looks! It just ticks all of the boxes i want, even for a possible Blockade Runner. Or at least an agile, Medium sized ship that can carry valuable cargo quickly.
I have a token to the Zeus Mk II ES - for the future.
    4) Drake Corsair - It is for me, in the Either Way category - as it might be replaced with another ship. Currently in-game it is my favorite daily driver. Sometimes i just take a ROC onboard & go mine planet side, other times i go for bounties & just overall enjoy the possibilities that come with this ship!
    5) The RSI Galaxy - This will probably be my go to ship when it is released. Partly because i like the idea of a Modular ship that can do it all..... Partly because i love the esthetics of the ship & just think that it will be an amazing value to my fleet. I have an idea with the Galaxy Refinery module & an Arrastra for a profitable small time mining operation! Ran by no more than 3-4 People!
This will definitely be my Go to daily driver when it is released. I am hoping that no matter what happens, this ship stays in a good spot for a possible: Cargo Hauler, a mobile small Hospital or a Refinery, maybe even something else entirely. I like the idea that one day i can be on Module "A" & then when i get "Bored" of that specific gameplay loop, i can swap out the module & play something else the next!
    6) RSI Arrastra - will be my Do it ALL Mining ship. I do NOT want to go bigger than this. The ORION will be a beast that i cannot tame, not without a crew of at least 5-10 people. Or maybe even more. Especially after all of the systems come online in the future, i do not want to have too many headaches when mining out in the verse!
    7) RSI Arrastra to Banu Merchantman upgrade - i am sitting on this one, i will decide in the future, once i have had my share of "Fun" on one of the ships & will be probably upgrading to the BMM, depending on how viable it will be as my Fleet`s center piece. It does seem like it can take on a bounty contract, with a dedicated fighter in the Landing bay on board, perhaps i can put an F8C or a RSI Scorpius or a Aegis Vanguard Harbringer, maybe even others. But definitely will be the ship i consider as the END game for me. Id like to have a ship that has ample cargo, decent armament, some other function than Combat.... And the BMM ticks all of that for me. And the LOOKS! Oh yes, it definitely wins in the style department for me! :)
    8) Combat ships i will usually buy in-game. Other industrial ships will always be a goal for me in-game. Bigger cargo - again all in-game purchases.
    - As a SQ42 backer i hope to get the F8C Lightning in the future, use it as my dedicated 1 seater combat ship. I will stay on the lookout for a ship that is a Heavy Figher class, similar to the Vanguard series - with a small internal space, but has decent armor, firepower & mobility. If not i will get a Vanguard in the future.
That is all, thanks if you read this!

Generally, I don't buy fighters, or vehicles, as they're super cheap in-game (relatively) and I see them as disposable items, but I do upgrade referral rewards to something fairly cheap, as I don't need a bunch of Hoverquads and Auroras. I try not to duplicate function, but for the most part, I like to cover all my bases, and sometimes buy something simply because I like it (600i). Sometimes I'll buy something for an early look, then return it for credit. I want my initial launch experience to be as grounded as possible, and retain a reason to do early game content, like deliveries, cave mining, etc. So I tend to stick to buying end-game ships, that I won't be using for some time, as I figure end-game content will be costly enough, even without the cost of the ship, and having LTI will be an advantage, regardless of how it may change in the future, and that's where the advantage will matter most.

    • @michaelsmith953

Imho, it is to soon for me to talk about personal fleet. My current goal of High Admiral has been reached, and what I keep as my daily flyers, are ships that I really like currently, and that sit somewhere in my ccu chains.
What I like to have in my current hangar is; One solo ship with 1 or 2 big guns(Currently a Scythe). One ship that can carry at least a cyclone(I think that's a C1 now, though often changing) . One racing ship (currently Fury LX) and Syulen because it looks amazing and is fun to fly.
Ships I really like to own in the future but not must haves are: Pioneer, Nautilus, Endeavor and Polaris. I'll prob own a Nautilus one day, and I'd love for my other large ship to be Endeavor, since there should no lack of Pioneer and Capital size combat ships in the verse.

I'm quite happy with my fleet as it is currently. It feels complete to me and covers all of the current interests I have for both singleplayer and multicrew gameplay. The full list of ships and reasoning for me is:
    - Hoverquad. Gravlevs are nice versatile vehicles you can take with you everywhere and deploy anywhere. While I know the other gravlevs might be more capable in a fight, I don't need mine to fight and I actually quite like the hoverquad's style.
    - STV. An almost perfect general purpose buggy for me. Small, fast, onboard storage, and a passenger seat. The only thing it lacks is room for a third 1/8th SCU box since most delivery missions need you to take three boxes.
    - 100i. My original starter and a nice shuttle with good fuel efficiency that I can use to pick up frends or boxes.
    - Fury MX. The Fury series in general is a huge boost of nostalgia for me, reminding me of the extremely fast and nimble ships from the WipEout series. While the LX might fight the role of agile racer, I gotta admit I'm just a sucker for the MX's blast shield.
    - 325a. A pure vanity purchase. I wanted a fancy ship to fly around in and the 325a just happens to be a very fancy ship. It doesn't hurt that it's a pretty good generalist ship for solo play too.
    - M50. A no nonsense racing ship without compromise.
    - Razor LX. Where the M50 wins in the corners the Razor LX wins in the straights. Having both means I can always adapt to what's best for the current track.
    - Expanse. I see mining and refining as a great way to establish an economic foothold in less developed systems. I also see access to my own personal refinery a huge benefit for gathering the resources to keep my larger ships running.
    - Zeus Mk II CL. I like the history of the ship in lore and I see having a selection of midrange cargo haulers will be very useful in long range trading. Use the midrange traders to buy/sell planetside before consolidating cargo with a long range trader so that you don't need to risk your full load at the most vulnerable parts of your journey.
    - Prospector. Gotta have something to gather the raw materials to keep my larger ships going, and as it is I don't feel like I need to go any bigger to a Mole or Arrastra.
    - Gladiator. My current all time favourite combat ship. I love its retro looks and how its quite stealthy with the right loadout. The potential for modularity also excites me.
    - Vulture. Where the Prospector is for ore, the Vulture is for salvage. Having both greatly improves my opportunities when it comes to resource gathering.
    - Railen. Another mid-range trader to fill the same role as my Zues Mk II allowing me to keep a presence in multiple trading hubs without needing to constantly move my ships back and forth with me, but also a roleplay ship. A good captain needs to be able to impress their guests when negotiating trade deals and how better to deal with Xi'an clients than to show my own appreciation for their crafts and traditions.
    - Constellation Andromeda. My smuggler and blockade runner of choice. Few ships are less suspicious than a Constellation, but the Andromeda still has the firepower to deal with people who still try to stick their noses in. And the snub is nice if things go to plan B.
    - Apollo Triage. If I'm planning on spending time out in the frontier, it's important to have the essentials covered. And there are few things more essential than staying healthy.
    - Corsair. Another midsize trader and another RP ship, this time for dealing with people who need to be pursuaded by the barrel of a gun... or several.
    - 400i. Another RP ship, this time for passengers that demand luxury (and good wine).
    - Starfarer. A heavy cargo ship able to carry fuel as cargo. Not only does this present new economic opportunities but it also helps cover another essential need when I'm in the frontier.
    - Caterpillar. My current all-time favourite ship in the verse and a just about do-it-all trader. The only things it can't really do is fuel trading and vehicle hauling, but even those are potentially doable with future updates to the ship.
    - Crucible. Covering the last of the essentials while in the frontier and also a pretty versatile carrier with its scarab bay.
    - and lastly the Hull-C. *The* long range trader of my fleet, and the carrier of potentially all sorts of other goodies.

Good video, I also got a bunch of ships for different game loops because I don't have enough time to play and get them in-game. I believe that this problem will always exist so increasing the price of a ship when it's released or reworked is a bit unfair to future players who didn't get the ships at the first opportunity. I'm not talking about FOMO, I'm talking about people who will join in the future having to pay sometimes a lot more to get the same as everyone before.

    Cutter:
My small Campervan. Its perfect to just fly around the verse to explore and look at stuff as it offers equipment for all the survival mechanics. It will be paired with a Ranger TR that extends range into "no fly zones" whenever that ones releases.
For now I use it as a bunker shuttle and Taxi.
    Talon:
My light and agile support fighter. The currently intended size 4 guns would allow me to attack bigger ships the other fighters cant down the road. I chose it because I wanted an alien ship as my secondary and at regular 115$ its not as overpriced (and I got about 25$ CCU discount).
I use it as a bunker shuttle, for combat beacons and racing.
    Ingame ships:
I usually buy a Corsair to do some light cargo hauling with either bought cargo or refined materials. I also enjoy using ir for high tier combat beacons as equiped with AD5B ballistic repeaters it shreds through the large ships.
Other than that I usually only rent ships.
Rental Prospector, rental Phoenix, rental Razor, rental 600i explorer are my go to ships.

Yeah I do to little mining to justify buying one for aUEC (and possibly losing it to an update).
A rental for 20k is payed off after one load so I start making profit from that point on.
And as soon as cargo elevators are a thing it becomes even more profitable. I can just buy a mininglaser I like, take the one of the rental off with a tractorbeam and put mine on. Salavge a Mole for its bags and swap those on aswell and I got a customized prospector for 20k a day.
Before the rental period ends I just swap back to the rentals original parts and put my own stuff in storage until I rent another prospector.

Any multicrew play is aboard someone else's ship.
People who own larger ships are always looking for crew, so why wouldn't I?
90% of my gameplay is solo and if I want to solo salvage, (for example) it only takes a few bunkers to earn enough to buy a Vulture in game.

I don’t know why You Tube creators when chatting about this game fail to express that there is NO big corporation of game house behind RSI. Without support from the audience buying ships we wouldn’t get this game. No EA or Bethesda or whoever is going to support the creation of a game like this. Not only is it too long term for them, and doesn’t help their bottom line quick enough, it’s too complicated. The want to add new maps to old COD and tell you that’s what you want. So if no one bought ships, this game doesn’t exist….
And to further express the chinceyness of those who say never use real money….. the amount of money they’ve raised at this point is almost enough to film the 2 Avengers Endgame movies. It actually isn’t much for entertainment these days. On average currently it’s just over 100 bucks per supporter. COD players spend more for one COD and the add ones for it…..then they buy another every year. Sometimes 2…. Everyone needs to stop being cheap, support the game if you want great entertainment.
Also, the Farister makes great vids. Keep ‘em coming man!!

I personally don’t want to involve myself in anything bigger than the merchantman as that is my biggest ship and having to work with a large group isn’t my forte. Absolutely love the Nomad since such a small package can bring so much more gameplay than other starter ships. The Nomad is no longer with me anymore, i replaced it with the C1 for good looking, nice cargo space and it just hit that sweet spot in terms of size, firepower and utility as a solo ship. and last is my F8C lighting, for me i consider it as a Horrible purchase when it comes to how much this ship brings to me. but i am always a bounty hunter in heart, i love air combats i play DCS and WarThunder and i made my first 10Mil with bounty hunting so this F8 is more like a trophy and collection piece for me, and i absolutely love it.

This setup should allow me to comfortably fill the painful gap between the Vulture and Reclaimer for 1+ person operations, far extending the capacity and range of the salvage operation without having to contend with the "design" of the overgrown garbage bug.

I'm a little bit drawn on the topic, as everyone always says "You only need a starter ship" but the the same people that say that, also seem to have an extensive fleet, and I'm wondering how CIG will balance this differences in the community once they release. Some may argue that buying ships buys you an advantage over people who don't and some even consider this a form of pay to win or pay to progress. On the other hand the ship sales are what keeps CIG going, so others may argue that they only buy ships to support the project. I'm also curious what this will do to the "progress" in the game, as right now earning money ingame to buy bigger ships feels like a way of progressing, but if you already have the "endgame ship" on release, what progress could you still make? Would this lead to a form of "power creep" where CIG is forced to release better and better ships to artificially create a form of progress? Also is this a topic that spilts the community and will it create jealoussy between the starting player with a starter and the player with "disposable income"? Could this "fear of missing out", that marketing uses so heavily also lead to people getting into serious, financial trouble because they want to play along or compete with players that have extensive fleets? Or could this also deter new players from joining the game, if many or most players have a large fleet?
That being all said, I also own more then a starter. I have a C8R as my daily Driver alone and a Freelancer MAX as starting cargo and multicrew ship.

    • @Farrister
      @Farrister  9 месяцев назад +1

I am one of those who says "you just need a starter ship" and then does the opposite, but I think that's because of my fairly unique situation in using other ships to make videos for people to enjoy. I'm probably less concerned with "progress" in game versus having a good experience with friends. There's also potentially an element of selectionism, where the most vocal people are the ones who spend the most, versus the "silent majority" who just have their single ship package. Maybe?

    • @Tschenggo
      @Tschenggo 9 месяцев назад +1

@@Farrister I understand, that as a content creator you want and may even need a bigger fleet to showcase ever possible game loop, but reading comments and watching twitch chats I get the imoression that the mayority of players own way more than just a starter, even though CIGs financial data suggests otherwise. Maybe it is the silent mayority.
When it comes to progression in the game, I also want to have a good time with firends but a valid progression usually keeps players hooked for a longer time. Think "ah one more week of grind and I can finally buy the cool ship I was aiming for" VS 💳 just buying it. Other games have levels or reputation as a kind of progression, and I feel that because SC only has Ships and Reputation as a Progression right now, just buying ships may kill some of the possible progression

    @Xeonzs 9 месяцев назад +1

I actually felt I high a really bloated fleet, ships did more or less the same, or ships I'd never see myself properly crewing like the odyssey or polaris.
During IAE I tried to optimize my fleet but shedding some weight and instead of having dozens of standalone LTI token ccu'd ships, I worked it into 2 exploration packs, but I was still not satisfied and ended up just melting absolutely everything, I only kept my red alert scorpius and red alert carrack due to them being unique.
At least I have a lot in buyback now, so I'll probably something similar like you where I'll buyback with buyback token the vulture and prospect IAE variants (10y warranty) just so I don't have to buy them in-game and have immediate access to those 2 gameloops, also since they are not combat ships I feel like LTI is less important for them.
The idea is that at the end of next year after buybacks I'll have:
F7CM OC starter pack upgraded into vanguard harbinger, since I just love the harbinger as heavy fighter, big quantum store and a gunner seat with 2x S3 weapons, so both good for solo and with a friend.
Andromeda OC to 600i explorer, I would've kept the andromeda since I love it so much, but that one is way more affordable in-game compared to the 600i, and also the 600i is much more worth it's price after the rework with a medical bed and being able to carry the nova tank below (so I don't need my M2 anymore).
A Nova tank OC as my premier ground vehicle, I considered a centurion as well since I just love the design and would like to have a AA platform like that with infinite ammo, so no need for logistics as much.
Then I still have the scorpius for when I'm sure I'll play with a friend and then we can do missions together. (wanted to go hurricane but decided to stick to scorpius)
The carrack has almost as much cargo space as the M2, so if I need to haul I can do it in the carrack, and it will also be great for group space exploration, finding events and anomalies to sell the coordinates from, or to serve as a base to do missions in uninhabited/ hostile systems.
LTI token ccu'd perseus as my premier gunship, was going to be the redeemer, but I just don't really like the redeemer anymore as much as I used to.
So as I'm concierge that means I'll have used 4 of my 8 buyback tokens for the year, I'm very likely to also to buyback IAE BIS vulture, IAE prospector, IAE Vulcan and IAE Apollo medivac.
Still considering if I want to buy 2 LTI tokens with real money back, so I can get an LTI C8R (Since I don't have an IAE variant to buyback) and buy an A1 spirit, since it will be combat and I don't have a bomber, but I'm also considering just buying those 2 in-game instead since the C8R is cheap and I don't see myself using the A1 that much, that way I wouldn't have to spend money on LTI Token, I really like the gladiator too, but since I'll already have the gladiator I don't really see the point, so that will end up being another ship I'll just buy in-game.
Things I ditched and probably won't buy back:
    Gladius Valiant
    Hurricane
    Polaris
    Liberator
    Odyssey
    M2 Herc
    Orion
    Arrastra
    Freelancer MIS

I have a rather small fleet of bought ships and those are exclusively ships I really like and don't wanna grind for over and over again. Since the majority of gameplay loops is not yet final or even in the game at all, buying career ships doesn't make sense to me as long as I don't know if the final iteration of a career will actually be enjoyable for me.

I just pick ships based on their silhouette and interior. I also try not to have more than one ship per manufacturer, simply because I want some variance in my ship's computer. I do have a rule, though, nothing larger than a 600i, even if I'm buying it with in game money, at least not until AI crew get added. The ships feel far too empty otherwise.

You'll wait a long time for NPC Crew, AI might drip in, yet CIG will drag their heels over NPC Crew, it replaces money spending backers, engineering will probably force you to take on MP crew. PS: where is ''custom ship paints''......exactly

I also have a ship (with LTI) for every loop that seems interesting to me and they range from solo to small crew sizes, although I might need an extra one (maybe even 2 once the gameplay is out). I wanted to have the relaxing money making gameplay ships to be solo, so I wouldn't bother anyone when daydreaming whilst pressing buttons. Plus I got myself a 400i which does nothing in particular, but I just really like the way it looks and handles (and I used some of nthe money I saved through CCU chaining, so it effectively cost me nothing extra). I also figured to get bigger crew ships ingame, for I need a group to operate one and while earning the cash to get it, we should be familiarizing ourselves with one another to actually use said ship effectively

When you talk about why bought ships with real money I noted two things you didn't say - is the Javelin a money purchase or a referral bonus reward? Since you know all the ships are obtainable in the game eventually why pay money now? Are you intending to support the project overall even though you appear sceptical about a final release?
Given your personal investment, the fact that you have built a channel around this game project and it's community which takes a no insignificant amount of work and time, as well as spending money to help the project which many others have for even longer than you perhaps, then it would be very important to give people the correct impression of the game, it's reason for existing the way it does outside the traditional gaming industry eco-system (even though the pressure of the RUclips algorithm tend to push the 'controversy' and clickbait approach) and why some might wonder, what is the balance between genuinely believing in a project along with others in the community, channel growth and viewership and the impact pushing 'attention grabbing' might have on both others who support the project and the project itself?
It's a fine line to walk. I'm curious about the motivation for that walk. I know I have a fleet of ships for one reason and one reason only, I decided to support the project with regular amounts over 10 years to keep the team from having to work under the pressure of wondering if they would be jobless at any moment, and what else do you do with all that accrued store credit except collect ships? I'm fully aware I can get them all in the game once it finally launches. When people talk about the 'price of ships' they don't really emphasise enough that it is all purely voluntary and confers no advantage, and they almost never talk about why the store credit system allows freedom like no other for those who have committed to not only 'making a game' but hopefully changing the attitude and approach of the wider gaming industry.

    • @Farrister
      @Farrister  8 месяцев назад

The Javelin is a big purchase, from the first sale back in 2015. It wasn't so much about helping the project, as helping to realise the dream of being able to fly that ship, to play incredible multi crew. So much about the Javelin appealed to me as soon as they announced it, and I was in a fortunate financial situation at the time.
This RUclips channel is a hobby of mine, pure and simple. I started making videos to learn a new skill, and continue to do so to keep learning, but also to acknowledge the supportive community who encourage me to continue. I try not to chase attention grabbing content, much preferring steady and reliable. In 4 years I've had 2 videos wade into the realm of drama, both unintentionally.

Hey @farrister, I wanted to know something regarding the Javelin. Is it possible to station it somewhere safe where it can be safe from being stolen etc? I know that it does not despawn and that it is persistent and that is actually super cool. I just wanted to know what options are you looking at to keep it sake or even stationed in a safe place for those that not ,ight be using it as often as you will. Thanks in advance and awesome video!

    • @stargeezer8427
      @stargeezer8427 9 месяцев назад +1

The Javelin is actually NOT persistent and will despawn like any other player-owned ship (you might be thinking of the Bengal carrier). Of course there are still plenty of details to be sorted out though, they don't want things just poofing out of existence in view of other players (and there's no hangar big enough to hide it in), but they'll come up with something.
I expect that a Javelin could always drop out of quantum halfway to nowhere; it would disappear when it's owner logs out just like any other ship as long as there's no one around or left onboard.

    • @Farrister
      @Farrister  9 месяцев назад +1

I'm anticipating it will de-spawn rather than be persistent, but time will tell. If needs be I'd be happy to park it up somewhere in safe, patrolled space, in between our weekly sessions.

10 to 20? I think with the new Engineering gameplay that is to be added to Arena commander, you are gonna need a minimum of 50 people to have a javelin be viable, having all turrets manned a full engineering crew for repairs and a dedicated fighter squadron in the hanger not to mention a bridge crew to keep everything flowing, at least that's what I hope for huge multicrew capital ships.
