We live in a world now where everyone wants to make woke statements. PG was showing acceptance love and respect for all people through his music 40+ years ago. He has always been magic
Given Peter Gabriel's long history of contributions to modern music, it's astonishing it took 40 years for him to be inducted, when lesser exclusively-US acts were inducted seemingly based on a single song. Super to see Gabriel & N'Dour perform together again.
Incredible musicians, Gabriel is one of the very best and he surrounds himself with others who are at the top of their game. N'Dour's voice is just so joyful! :)
@@peterharrison699 me too! It makes me happy knowing Genesis are in there as well as Peter solo. Glad to know that Peter and Genesis are getting recognition for both their contributions to Progressive Rock and pop. Wish the hall of shame would give Prog a little more recognition. I personally feel that people like Robert Fripp 100 percent also deserve to be in there for being innovators. Now I understand how obscure bands King Crimson, Prog in general, or even early Genesis can be, but they definitely influenced countless other artists, many of whom are already in the hall of fame.
Always goose bumps with this one. The western world owes Gabriel a great debt for bringing artists like Youssou N'Dour, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and many many others to our collective attention via Real World Records and festivals.
Just WOW. I’ve been a Gabriel fan since Genesis and he is one of the greatest. That voice never fails to bring me to tears. Not to mention the amazing Youssou N’Dour!!!
LOL 😉 - I guess from my own 70ish y.o. perspective, you haven’t listened to as MUCH music as I have over the years in order to make that remark?! While I do 👍 it, it’s definitely NOT one I’d consider to be nearly 10% (generously) as 🌟 as others, regardless of the year and/or artist!
This was fantastic. I cried, I laughed, I smiled. I cannot understand how his songs have so many lines that are like he had written down my feelings, some of those deepest feelings, that you wouldn't even know how to express them. And he's expressing them in such a descriptive and perceptive and soulful way. Ah.
After so many years I am completely overwhelmed by emotions by this song and what a performance of mister na dour and Peter thank you for all this fantastic music I am almost 80 years now and still have tears in my eyes from this music thank you
Peter Gabriel, like David Bowie… is an example of how important it is to be authentic, unique, and identifiable as an artist. His voice is its own instrument, nobody sounds like him. His music is a world of its own. That’s what great Art is supposed to be.
I have listened to your music Peter since I was a child...I'm now 45 years young😁...I love your message in your songs. I believe you have a deep spiritual connection as well as your wife and children! As long as you have the strength to do so, keep doing what you've been doing for many years!
It is a pity that Tony Levin was not there, as he has been from the beginning. In addition, his bass work on this tune is a masterclass. But, i must admit, if I couldn't get Tony, Pino Palladino is the equivalent of a 1A backup.
My first thought when the band started was "wait, where's Tony?" But then I realized it was Pino Palladino. There's literally no other bassist that would make me equally as happy as seeing Tony
Yeah, Tony was tied up with another event, which is a shame: he's been a core member of Gabriel's group :(. But Peter got Youssou instead, which is a rarity nowadays (he's engaged heavily in politics with his native Senegal). I'm sure Levin sent his best wishes!
@@Karmakatt6 Tony is still a totally unique voice on the bass. He doesn't get enough credit, imo. I've been playing bass professionally, live and in the studio, for 20 years and Tony crafted some of the most sick, yet tasteful bass lines in Pop history.
Awww... The iconic scene that Cusak refused to do. Apparently it became a big fight between him and the studio. I think they threatened to fire him if he didn't do it.
If he never released another song except for this one he would still deserve this induction for the beautiful blend of musical genres and the genius behind this song. As it is he’s supremely talented way beyond this and this was a very well deserved induction!
It's one of my all-time favorite songs by Peter Gabriel. Every time I listen to or see the various videos through the years, the power of the lyrics is intense, and it's epic after 35 plus years. Beautiful song.
It's not just that the song is so beautifully written. Peter Gabriel sings it with true heart and emotion. You can hear it in his voice and see it on his face that this song moves him very deeply, which in turn moves all of us who have appreciated his music and his genius through the years.
I was lucky enough to attend this exceptional work of art in Argentina on October 15, 1988 when I was very young. Thank you Youssou N'Dour, thank you Peter Gabriel for what you have given us, forever.
RnR Hall of Fame is such a scam. There are so many people who should be inducted that have been completely ignored: Warren Zevon, the Meters, so many. Am glad the most beautiful songwriter and performer Peter Gabriel is finally there. What a treat to also be able to see Youssou N'Dour.
The word 'genious' is over-used and often wasted on people with extraordinary contributions to the process of life. Peter is very deserving of the word and this award is long over due as is usually the case with true genious because the recipient is so far ahead of everyone else.
Did ever see so much talent come together as one? PG what a voice!
😂
One of the greatest songs ever written by a magnificent human.
Fully agree! 💫🥰I love, love, love this song... timeless! So glad Mr Gabriel made it to The Hall of Fame - he's been in my personal one for years! 💟🤎♥️
Peter think
Yeah and playing in front of a dead as a doornail clown crowd just sitting there looking dumb. A slap in the face to Peter.
The only song in the world that gives me a smile in any situation, no matter how painful it is

YES too! TULL's not in yet! Definite anti-prog slant too, HOF! I love YES but this maybe THE best tune ever?
Incredible musicians, Gabriel is one of the very best and he surrounds himself with others who are at the top of their game.
N'Dour's voice is just so joyful! :)
He's been inducted twice, so there are no longer complaints from me after that.

The Moody Blues began making music in 1963 and were not inducted until 2018.
I just love Peter Gabriel's voice. It sends me back to the 70's and 80's, the happiest time of my life.
Always goose bumps with this one. The western world owes Gabriel a great debt for bringing artists like Youssou N'Dour, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and many many others to our collective attention via Real World Records and festivals.
The ending makes me cry every time. 😭
He still sounds so amazing. Truly belongs in the Hall of Fame. Really long overdue.
Not surprising that Mr. Gabriel - as a british musician - decided to invite to this gig--an African from Senegal. You go bro!
How could those people just SIT there?? I could not have! I ALWAYS have to move to this song.
I thought the same thing!

Peter Gabriel. Nobody better.
Oh my, that man’s voice still tingles my spine! Thank you PG.
Philadelphia-Secret World Tour. I was there : )
I've listend to "So" a thousand times, I still find something unique in every song. Masterpiece.
i was never star stuck. Met a lot of BIG stars in my day.. Peter was the only one I was awestruck with.
Happy to see Youssou!
Surely one of the best pieces of music ever written ,should have been in the hall of fame at least 30 years before ! .

how can the audience sit still with this song?! He loves it when people dance and enjoy at the front.
It's a shame no one in the crowd is dancing. I couldn't hold my ass still to this amazing song.
This is the magic in music we lack in today's homogeneous white bread music. The world needs this.

Absolute magic!!
I really love this song! ✨💃
Thank you Peter Gabriel!
THIS man earned every flower he gets
Perfect example of taking a great song, and making it even greater.
Who else brings in and features another singer at his own Hall of Fame induction?
Youssou N'Dour provided backing vocals for original.
One word - Remarkable!!!
Such a genius....in his writing and performance's....Been a big fan of his since the 70's....
United We Stand! Divided We FALL!
Awesome!
Thanks for the music Peter! We'd be fans if you could do it all over again.
