You seriously didn't know about screw down crowns? That is one of the things that makes this such a phenomenal watch at this price point. You typically see them on more expensive watches. This is also one on the reasons this watch has such a high water resistance. I own several Duros. I highly recommend this watch!
100% serious. 🤣😅 I went in completely blind! Awesome! That makes a lot of sense, otherwise the water would get under the crown. Casio consistently offer exceptional value. 😎 Thanks for weighing in! 🙏
I prefer analog cause it's better visible at any angle and especially in low light. Watches with decent lume are legible all the time, no need to press a button.
the mdv106 with the marlin is not discontinued and the mdv 107 is not replacing it. the mdv106 can only be sold in north america probably because of how the licensing for the marlin was signed initially. they will continue to be sold there with the marlin logo and they even released new color variants of it after the mdv107 was introduced. the mdv 107 is sold outside of north america. also the mdv107 has a better dial with applied indices (instead of the pressed in of the duro´s) and has signifficantly better lume too. the other specs are the same apart from the missing marlin.
Woah, this is a revelation! 🤯 That makes a lot of sense. That's awesome to hear Casio did make some improvements such as the lume, as this would definitely encourage some to prefer this model! Thank you for unveiling this information, Alex,. Much appreciated! 🙏
You got me laughing so hard I almost fell over my office chair. Should have known that it wasn't for nothing that you said "it's my first ever analog watch review". You live and you learn. Cheers GOAT!!! For me Analog always wins, but enjoy my digitals also.
Hahaha, good on ya Jorge! 😂 No worries. I’m glad my predicament was entertaining for you! 😁 Exactly! I was genuinely going in blind. I love learning things first hand 🤩 Analog - noted. Thanks for weighing in!
Glad you stumbled on the screw crown before breaking out the Vice Grips, duct tape, and WD-40. This (original Marlin logo version with gold-colored bezel rim) is my favorite watch. Super accurate. I did swap trhe band for a black stainless bracelet. I circulate three analog watches and don't care for digital: Hamilton Khaki King II black dial/stainless bracelet for EDW. Seiko Solar 100M (also black dial & stainless bracelet) for working around the hobby farm (12 years old so more scratches don't matter - excellent time accuracy at +2 seconds/mo). Casio Dura Marlin for wet work (with black S/S bracelet) for boating/sailing/kayaking/snorkeling/fishing/hunting. Just as accurate as the Seiko Solar. Nice, large hands and good lume for low-light.
Hahaha, oh man... Can you imagine if I didn't figure it out? 🤣 Nice one - Amazing choice 🤩 Fair call! It's nice to have different watches for different situations. 👌 Thanks for sharing! 🙏
I really appreciate that Atticus! 🙏 Gotta keep it 💯! It’s part of the reason I enjoy what im doing so much… Along with interacting with the awesome community like yourself! 😉

I honestly wasn't sure if you were doing a gag with the whole not knowing to unscrew the crown or not. If you really didn't know, don't take any crap from the watch snobs about it. Tell them there was a time they didn't know about it ether and we are all at different steps along our watch journey. Also, you're right the MDV106 is one to get. It has the Marlin as well as 200m WR, where as the newer versions are missing one or both. If the newer 38mm Duro (MDV-10-1A2V) had these two item, I would make the switch.

Yes!! 🙌 Let it be known - You cannot fake my level of genuine incompetence with opening the crown! 🤣 I’m sure I’m not the only one though - the “unscrew the crown” step of the instructions manual should have been the very FIRST thing mentioned. Unfortunately, the manual is shared with MANY other watches, so is not specific! 🙄😅 At least it made for amusing content for some 😁
Hahaha, I think my brain is faulty! 🤪 Nah so they did mention it in the manual, BUT it was all the way at the bottom, when clearly this should be the 'First Step', right?! Sadly, it's because Casio share's this one generic instruction manual between heaps of different models (that don't need to unscrew the crown), so probably didn't think it was important enough 😑
