Hey Justin, me and my dad fish in Alabama on the Coosa River. It doesn’t get the notoriety of the Tennessee river, but it has the best flathead fishing in the state and some giant blues too. It’s a much narrower river that is better suited for the kayak. We’ve caught many 50-75 lb blues and flatheads over 50 lbs. it is a perfect fit for your fishing style

Next time....put in at Lucy's branch. You will be right on the main river channel. If you are headed west on hwy 72, Lucy's branch will be the first left before you go over the elk river bridge. When you put in there you won't be but about 500 yards from main river channel. Lots of deep-water at this location and bluff walls.

The fish in Alabama are like our football team they will give you one hell of a fight.
I have fished Wheeler a few times,it's totally different than the Tennessee river. It's not a good lake to be in in bad weather. I caught many from 30 to 50 and the best was 78lbs. You never talked much about your Garmin fish finder . I have two the like yours but without livescope. It would be great to hear what you think.
Doesn't matter what body of water you're on , if there's fish in it you're catching them!

My uncle just bought a 835 acre deer hunting farm in shorter Alabama we from South Carolina but that place reminds of home but I went up and fish the Alabama river and caught channel cats I was thinking I know how much you hate them things but they were perfect dinner size

I just tried those damn flies never again. I went dragging for catfish with my friend in water from 10 to 15 ft. Because there was a ton of bait fish stacked off a flat next to a old creek channel. To my surprise,we hooked 3 large pike plus a few catfish plus some really nice snags .
You are on one of my favorite catfish lakes. There and Wilson lake. If I fish Wilson I fish just down from Shoal Creek. There is a hole that’s over 100’ there.
Wheeler is where I was introduced to the world of big catfishing. Witnessed several 100 pound fish and the guy I fished with caught a giant so big it bottomed out the scale long before it was off the floor of the boat.
Them's some of them nuklear cats. I have gone out with the TVA biologist electro-fishing near there, lots-o-fun.
Fish wilson lake. Thats where more people fish below wheeler. We use a ramp right next to the main channel. Little cove is 25+ ft deep to the entrance and drops to 40 ft not to far
You put in at second creek. If you would have gone up there is some deep water bybsome bluffs. Great flathead area. From second creek ramp youbare a good way to main river. Second creek dumps out right there at wheeler dam. Good fish youncaugjt for a lake you are not use to.
That ramp you launched from is about 9 miles from my house. Glad to see you were down here in our neck of the woods, and yep, we are not fond of Vols..........Roll Tide
We have camped and I have fished that lake a couple of times but not for catfish. Looks like we'll have to try in the spring.
You were on 2nd creek in the last segment and had you went about a 1 mile more west and turned left at the light south onto HWY 101 and went 2 to 3 miles just on the left before you cross Wheeler Dam is a boat ramp on the main river. The main channel is just out from the ramp. Try that next time.

Guntersville lake has way more boat ramps and better fishing
Good bait for big cats is chicken breast, bacon fat, bloody liver . Good fishing.
I think some of the biggest catfish in Alabama will be on the Alabama river through Cahaba runs into it

If you are still in alabama, fishing at lake guntersville is one of the lakes for big blues and flats!
It has to be hot there where you are at. Even under your umbrella. Indiana watching.

Just wondering if you have catfished up in scottsboro, alabama? I have a camper spot at Goose Pond colony and the deep river channel isn't too far from my spot. Gonna try take the kayak out this weekend amd fish the drop off where it goes from 16 to 33 in depth.
I haven’t ever fished there. I hope to get down there at some point soon though.

My best fish (lately) have been from deep holes on Wilson. A few fun size off of Wheeler, but the better sizes have been Wilson and Guntersville. J/S KEEP YOUR LINE WET !

Great video. Something I learned while catfishing, if you rub a belly on a cat or pat it, he will open his mouth. Don't know why but that always works for some reason.

Rick Flair whooooooo, fist pump worthy Roll Tide J. aint no secrete lake wheeler got the river monster cats. on the real note have you seen the smelt gulp in 1" its like finding gold my brother getting hard to get in my area and my last 2 amazon orders have gotten lost. but i went out this evening and got some bass and threw the gulp on the way to the ramp caught a few beautiful pumpkinseeds. a few small perch and a crappie it was hot as all hades about 84 with humidity in the humidity 60s to 70s like a sauna out there and breeze was a blessing out there. you will quickly figure out the shape of your back paddling a yak man what a sore back i had the other day. i been binging on your old videos seen you had a issue a while back too. i had a issue like that a bit back myself i could not even sit for long periods it was so bad thankfully after icing my back several times a day it subsided it about 2 weeks time. its so fun to be out there in a tiny boat and all the bass boaters look at me a little funny with there 20k+ boat probably knee deep in dept. i just smile and wave ☺☺😂😂 your vides get me so Crunk to go out and wet a line even if i dont catch big cats like you

Deepest spot I fish is about a 8-10 foot hole in a 5-6 foot river. 51lb flathead on 8' of line was incredible

Seen you at CatCon in the MO. Moved to Missouri, normally fish bank on bottom. You and Daniel feom Catfish Sumo prompted me to buy a kayak and grt out there. Cant afford a boat... still trying to figure it out, but both of you content gives me confidence to keep trying. My normal catch is small channel cats, darn it. Will keep watching and try to learn more. Concidering the master class with you and Daniel on his site.
