Excellent video. I honestly had no idea that there were so many torso murders! And I must admit that although I discovered your channel from the perspective of dismissing Lechmere as a strong JTR suspect you are gradually challenging my conviction, so well done you!
Captivating subject matter. Content-wise, this is superior to much of the BBC's output, which is quite an achievement. The Beeb has ample resources, yet seeks to entertain first (usually featuring a celebrity presenter) and educate second. Good standard of photography too.
10:53 William Thomas Stead, the journalist, I knew exactly who you were talking about before watching the rest of the video. One of the Titanic’s prominent victims, he had written and edited a number of periodicals on various subjects. He was very prolific and interested in a wide number of subjects, including political reform and the occult. He had also done an article on the prostitution rings. No doubt he would’ve found modern research on the Ripper crimes to be very interesting.
It would be interesting to see the bags that they were found in, and then compared to the bags that the local businesses used like the cat meat factory!!
I can’t find any info into what packaging lechmere used with his meat delivery for Pickfords could it have been a canvas bag?.. Also did the cat meat factory use canvas bags? He must have acquired the packaging to wrap the bodies from somewhere .. this could be a big clue that no one has looked into yet? ..
Interesting that the killer kept the thigh for longer as the thing that most haunts me about the Mary Kelly photos is the almost complete denuding of the thighs.
Yes your right that picture was just too much.to think someone got pleasure by sitting there stripping the flesh off that poor woman is just impossible to comprehend
@@Agathanagatha it is indeed. I think if it weren't for that photo, even as old as it is, even in black and white....... I tend to have had the same reaction after several years of considering what happened in that little room, that should have been so cozy or could have been.... as the author and ex cop who's in all the ripper documentaries.... That for the first time that we know of, Jack/lechmere had basically all the time in the world, hours and hours just to do every disgusting thing to that poor woman, both pre and post-mortem and I just think he got up and left when he was done. And after that he was never going to be wanting to slash some woman's stomach in the street or in an alley again because that could never satisfy if you know what I'm saying. It would be like riding a tricycle after mastering a three-speed. it was like his piece de resistance, his last symphony as horrible as that is. It's just.... I keep thinking how come nobody saw him leave, nobody saw him come out that door!! His luck was uncanny and only deserted him during the first of the canonical five murders, Polly Nichols. But he managed to slither out of that one because Jack was a clever bugger and no two ways about it. The bastard.
@@Frenchblue8 Jack must have been covered in blood, shit & bits of flesh/organs so he either had a change of clothes with him or something like an apron that could've covered his clothes. If he had neither how he managed to get home without being noticed is beyond me Mary Kelly's room had no running water. Who ever the real culprit is his family must have had some idea he was the Ripper simply because of the washing of himself & his clothes.
He also left their thighs exposed - most of their bodies dresses were pulled up then down just enough but left the thighs exposed. I do wonder if there was some improper relationship between Charles and his mother. He was never good enough. She was always pushing him aside for another man. His fixation on loose women pulling their dresses up. Did mom pull up her dress in front of him? Just thoughts/theories.
The picture of MK is one of the reasons I never looked too deep into this case. The thought of seeing that picture again terrifies me. I saw the the man who did the autopsy ended up committing suicide - Dr. Thomas Bond. If they could have just left those horrific pictures and images out one could look at the logic of this situation if there is any. Just like Edward is showing us to by looking at suspects and the locations and the maps and no horrific pictures.
Great video once again! Do you have some statistics in England for the occurence of murders of women by knife that went unsolved around london at the end of the 19th century? Are we looking at hignly rare events or was that a violent time with quite a few women being found dead?
Does that canal flow to the river Thames?? Could everything have been dropped in the canal and then some pieces floated like packages 📦 and some sink into canal? Also some pieces dropped in at different times according to decay
Clearly the Rainham Torso was diposed of hoping it would be washed out to sea & not be found ,where as the other body parts were deposed of with the possibility that they would be found. It does seem to be rather a lot of mileage covered by the perpetrator unless of course he was a delivery man on his rounds.
I think he knew that the parts would be found after being washed up on the shore - from experience. And I think the piecemeal nature of the findings gave him an extra thrill.
I heard that one of the Jack The Ripper victims, either one of the main 5 or one of the previous 2, was known for telling people she was a survivor of the Princess Alice disaster to get relief. She made other false claims to receive alms also. ( I think it was the lady found on the first floor stairs early hours of the morning in late August 1888.) But it was definitely one of them.
Noticed that too lol. Way it's moving around looks like how a reflection would move. So I'm not sure if it's something to do with the filming a reflection of a light in the camera lens or something. It does look like it's behind him in the sky though, so 🤷
Were these these victims actually Ripper victims whilst learning his trade before the canonical five victims in Whitechapel ? He had to have started earlier than1888 to ensure his crimes would work. similarly he would have to have ongoing murders intent well past November in 1888. Has there been ant evidence (primitive as it may have been to suggest the Ripper started before 1888 and continued post November 1888). If this person had physical evidence that he had well known human anatomy skills and disection skills, surely the Ripper murders timeline should exist before 1888 and extend well beyond 1888.
Good and another interesting post....have you ever thought that the culprit involved could have been a student studying "a body" for surgical or medical reason's...then.. disposed if it.??...and not a murder... just an idea to throw into the equation
An amazing amount of labor going hither and yon to suss out these details, and, with probative ties to your suspect. More and more one cannot escape the suspicion his own mother could hardly have not wondered about her son. He must have been highly self controlled to have been able to indulge his blood lust and yet seen to both attending his mother, his children and keeping a job. It must have seemed to him a matter of logical actions with hardly any morally significant consequence . . . They were all whores. The "dregs" of the lowest of classes. Yet his letter ir letters, indicate he believed "meat is meat" . . . the eating of which was akin to cat food. Either that, his "Dear boss" letter was introduced for merely shock value . . . Undoubtedly he was sadistic, while also seeing his victims as equivalent to horse flesh meant for cat meat. Maybe even seeing his actions as a public service . . . An insane man. A weird genius, yet not without an exagerated sense of extraordinary luck . . . or even Providence, on his side . . seeing the close calls from which he realized he'd escaped significant notice.
Yes, I think this presentation fails to distinguish between the things that we know and the things that we do not know. These torso murders simply do not fit his MO at all. An unfortunate distraction from what we actually, already know. Lechmere is the strongest suspect. I think he was Jack The Ripper
Interesting story but not very well told, bit of a boring cove !!! River police station is actually upstream from the Wellington ,not as the geezer said further down the river!!!
Astonishing, and absolutely gripping. Well done Mr Stow!
Many thanks
Your investigations are so thoroughly researched. I really appreciate the detail you give essential, leaving no stone unturned!

I have started to subscribe to the Lechmere theory but it seems like this killer didn’t want the body to be found and the other murders were displayed
