I have chronic fatigue and bad mental issues, i even went to the psych ward once partly because of environmental stress. Ive needed to learn over time that I'm part of the world that deserves care too, especially as a disabled person. I cant protest, i can't do much at all. Its still hard sometimes, but I'm working on that. What I'm getting at is that every planet-aware person is different, and we can't expect the same of every one of us, including ourselves. Im done rambling haha, i enjoyed the vid!
beautifully said! earth care oftentimes requires some level of privilege and we can't be hard on ourselves when the privilege required of us is out of our control. thank you for watching and sharing your experience 🧡
Hello ! :) First of all, I'd like to mention that English isn't my mother tongue so sorry if some of my phrasings are a bit awkward. I also have chronic fatigue and difficult experiences with my mental health. I am so grateful that you bring up this topic ! What you said is very wise, in my opinion. Expectations have to suit the person's capacities. One thing that I've realized for myself and that helped me a lot is that being sustainable often means doing less. In my experience, this apply to mental health and environmental sustainability . :) By doing "not much at all", as you say, you might have a healthier impact on your environment and on yourself ! In my case, because of my fatigue, I can't travel so I never take planes and it's been over a year since I've even been in a car. Oftentimes, I don't even leave my city at all and do all of my activities by foot. I have very few hobbies and most of them are low-cost, low-energy chill activities I can do at home. I don't party so I don't over-consume. I have little energy (and interest, to by honest) to shop so I just don't or I do it from home by browsing Facebook Marketplace. I hope these examples help people that are feeling guilty because they believe that they aren't doing enough. Doing "not much" or less is not the problem, it's part of the solution. :) I hope that you are struggling less with your mental and physical health and that you have people that support you daily. Take care. :)
I only found your channel a few days ago, but I really appreciate your approach to sustainability. I work a busy job, and have young kids. So I definitely have to carefully choose which sustainable habits to keep that are actually doing the most good! Thank you for your carefully considered, fact-based approach to help guide which habits to keep, and which to thoughtfully drop, when we can't do it all.
You have NO IDEA how much this has helped me!! I've been so down lately, not getting anything done because of lack of motivation and feeling like such a lazy person. And I completely get the "if I can't get everything done, I'll get nothing done" mentality... that has totally been my life lately. I'll definitely try to implement these tips into my daily routine! Thank you so much! P.S. I love the vibe of this channel and you've really inspired me to be more mindful of what I buy and consume!
What a lovely video. I was inspired by all your ideas and habits, especially as a person who experiences burnout and overwhelm constantly (I just found your channel and have been watching a bunch!) . Also your house has such a comfy vibe. Side note, you might already know this or have had someone tell you but you want to keep your herb jars out of the light and they will stay fresher longer. Either in a dark cupboard, put a curtain on your shelf or in amber jars. The light degrades them.
This is amazing video and should be addressed more! Thank you for this! Back when zero-waste was uncool, I burned out and gave up completely. I'm only just now getting back to it. On top of trying to do it all while the world burned more and more fossil fuels and became more and more unsustainable, people in my small town were really mean towards anyone deciding not to buy something just because they didn't restock the plastic-less version. I straight up got refused to buy produce at the grocery shop when I turned up with my reusable produce bags (on multiple occasions, and it always made the clerks angry at me too, fun times!). My mom got annoyed and went on a rant multiple times over my zero-waste attempts and habits. I crashed so hard :D Now the same grocery stores have their own "buy your reusable produce bag here!" stalls next tot he bananas and you can even vote on the scale whether you're buying in plastic, in reusable or without a bag. Coffee houses offer discounts for when you bring your own coffee cup. We really moved on - you don't need to make your own mascara and deodorant anymore (both gross when made at home lol, been there). Eco burnout is so real and needs to be talked more about. (by the way you can find me on Instagram under @kate___less, I've just started out tho)
Thank you for sharing how you come back from eco-burnout and ways to hopefully prevent it! Very insightful video 🤗 I also go through cycles of eco-burnout, a lot of mine stems from perfectionism and biting off more than I can chew 😅 I believe guilt and shame plays a lot into eco-burnout as well, and think videos like yours will help reduce it in the long run 💚 Thanks again 🙏🏽
I am SO SO HAPPY I found your channel. What you talk about is what I've been needing to hear someone else say. Eco burnout is so real. I have a 16 month old and trying to navigate his food, environment, toys, clothes, cleaning, etc, etc, etc, my god it's hard lol. When you start going down the baby rabbit hole you learn: everything is poison and you have to bake all your own bread/grow all your own food/only buy the most eco friendly (i.e expensive) clothes that he grows out of in 3 months. Yeah, it's very over whelming lol
I'm a new sub currently bingeing your videos... love your vibe SO much. You're hilarious. I can't wait to watch your channel grow! Your videos are superior quality, you're definitely gonna do well on YT.
You said you buy plastic dog poop bags. I thought I'd share a tip that maybe you and perhaps other viewers hadn't heard before. My household saves all the plastic bag packaging we can find and use them as dog poop bags, as a result, we very rarely have to buy actual dog poop bags. We save bags used as packaging for online orders, if we forgot our reusable shopping bags and had to use plastic, we'd use those too, some items come wrapped in a thin flexible packaging and with careful removal those can be used too and as my family is very frugal other family members would save their plastic packaging and give them to us too. If the bag had holes, we'd use packing tape to seal the hole. Another thing we do with bags larger than regular dog poop bags is use the same bag more than once. Pick up a 💩, tie the bag off at it and you have clear space for another without the previous one falling out, but we only used this method if the dog went more than once on a walk, sometimes we could fit 3 in one bag.😅
thank you so much for mentioning this tip!! such a great solution. my only thing is we don't buy enough things in plastic to have a steady supply of bags to reuse, but hey we can still reuse the ones we DO have for picking up poop! now to convince my husband 😅
Feeling sleepy after a meal is not normal... You would only feel sleepy after a meal if you ate WAY more than you could handle, eke feasting. I find it interesting that vegans actually have this way often even after eating a normal meal. While I never have it unless as said before I over eat by a lot on meat. But then again I don't eat plant things because I'm not an bunny. It shows you that we are not designed to be eating only plants or plants in general.
I'm not vegan and I often feel sleepy after lunch... I think it's pretty normal. There's a tradition of napping after lunch in many areas of the world, so I would guess it's a pretty common experience even if it doesn't affect you specifically.
@@Orynae That what you say has nothing to do with each other, a uncle of mine has a house in spain so I go there pretty often. They sleep in the midday to escape the heat, to escape the sun and nothing more... When your body can't process the food, you will feel sleepy and that can go hand in hand with cramps. So many things caused by our food today we see as normal but is far from normal. I won't follow alison if I wer you and wanna stay sane, she is like a white rabbit. Keeps you changing things and makes you feel like you do the right thing, only to find out a year later she was all wrong. She still is, all wrong

Can you also carry the poop home and throw it into the toilet, then just put the empty bag in the trash? Otherwise the poop doesn’t get treated.
"earth person". i like it!
