Sounds very Tool-ish. Love it 🤘🤘
I love noodling around like that at night with all the lights of, the cats sleeping on my keyboard and the reverb ringing in the distance. The day could have been busy as hell, but that always brings me back. Great lesson as always, man 🤘
Thanks Max!
Your recent Mastodon cover was great, man!
@@Kornholic Thanks! 🤘
Max you chad
Same, man. Nothing better than playing ambient music in absolute darkness. Until you do it, you'll never get how transcending it can really become.
HOW SICK THAT TONE IS!!!
The best guitar teacher on the planet. It's not just the technical knowledge, but also inspiration for writing our own music. Thanks, man.
Much appreciated!
DUDE!.......You just opened a door for me! 🙏
That beginning is like some kind of gregorian chant. Love it!
Damn those tones hit me right in the lizzard brain, makes the hair on my arms stand up, love it grabbing my axe right now! Thanks.
You're a doctor in dropdiology. I really love this channel. Lots of goodies here!
The beginning of the intro sounds very Tool No quarter like, so... I LOVE IT. As Max Niessl pointed out, just noodling late at night, with droning D or whatever... Best thing ever. Loved the video!
I’m late but…this is one of the absolute best guitar lessons on RUclips. So useful and instantly applicable.
Glad you think so!
Until recently I've spent most of my time in standard tuning. About a month ago I just started leaving a guitar in drop D and another in drop C# and started exploring. This lesson really is going to push me forward.
Thanks for the awesome lesson!
Thanks for sharing!
So, where did you end up 2 years later?
@@jetaimemina he's too busy recording his own Tool album
Thank you so much for this lesson Greg. You took me out of my months long rut and allowed me to play the nicest melodies I've ever played in a long time!
Rock on!
man that reverb and straight edge twangy-ness of the strings is just addictive
I’m so amazed by this. Music theory like this can be so interesting when explained and explored this way. Each note compliments each other in complex ways in this tuning. I’ve gotta try this out.
Love how you explain stuff. Sounds awesome!
Wow man these sounds are fantastic !
This is just what I needed!
Sounds awesome! Great video
This is some great stuff Love this approach 👍👍
This is EXACTLY the video I was looking for. Thanks man.
Love your lessons I can get lost for days playing around with this!!
I Love that introduction ! Wow !
Great stuff! Thank you ever so much!
One of your best. Thank you, mate.
Golly, that sounds terrific!
Very nice job at explaining what you're doing! 😎👊 thanks man, this video really helped me out.
Great video my man, thanks again!
Incredible instruction. Love your tool tutorials and these scale lessons bring out the creativity in my play. Many thanx!
Thanks Greg, this is such a good lesson and sounds😄
Greg. I love this stuff. Videos about creating simple riffs using scale fragments!
cool sounds!!! great explanation!!!
Discovered your channel and can't believe it exists. Your teaching style fits me perfectly. I love everything I learn from you. Thanks for all you do
Great video, man. Thank you.
Love ur channel bro good explanation without repeating
These videos are awesome bro!
Thank you, this has already helped me a lot.
Love it. Great job. Became a Patron after this video in particular. Just what I'm looking for as a guitar player. Thank you.
This is a very cool lesson! I usually play in standard tuning, but I'm going to try some of this stuff.
The sound......... Awsome my Dude! Echo Hard! "Doc"
Sounds so cool!
Thanks to the algorithm that i find your channel...Such nice lessons for drop tuning! Greetings from germany
This channel is the Truth💎💡
Thanks man you are the best teacher for drop D .gracias 👊😘
I do play stuff like that after a couple hours of guitar exercises, escales and harder rock and it feels like a meditation after hardcore training. Using reverb and delays help a lot in getting into this kind of “trascendence” mode. This one of yours gave me some more inspiration. Thanks man.
Absolutely 100% perfection.
Love that Guitar...beautiful
Amazing video as always Axe
Thanks again!
Very professional well done 👍
love it, thanks
This is the greatest guitar lesson I've come across in a long time and genuinely stumbled upon.
Thank you, I always wanted to come close to sounding like this and being able to play it on the fly for when I'm in my "ambient" moods. Adding a lead or filter tone will really make these scales explode in their versatility
Awesome, thank you!
I didn't know Greg was a ghost writer for Tool! 🤘
ha!
Great sound!
Just what I needed, thank you🍻
You’re welcome 😊
Seems the sound is that of excellence...great tutorial!
Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve started learning guitar during this quarantine and I want to try and start to come up with my own ideas, especially using drop D (my tool bias 😂)
Bro your awesome I don't comment much but your on point , explain things well with out being pretentious, your a class act bro thanks again.
Thank you
Bathory - Shores In Flames as well as Tool vibes here, awesome video man!
Terrible armonía hermano!!! Estudiaré este modo!!!
wow good video! thanks!
Awesome!!🎼🎵🎸👍💪
Drop D my fave!
I came back to this video just for that opening lead riff you played
Damn mate I learnt loads from such quite simple ideas. Thanks 😀
That's what it's all about!
Apart from the obvious Tool-sound in there at 7:40 there's a lot of ISIS-feels to it! Great video
good job man
Kept hearing 7empest! Like loads!
Man these ideas are outstanding..tearing hair to write..have not been this inspired in 2 yrs
Greg, thanks for this! I'm always looking to expand my songwriting away from the boring power chord stuff. I have a love for Drop D. I like how you explain why you do what you're doing on the guitar instead of just playing stuff. Understanding the when, why and how gives us the understanding to come up with our own stuff!
Rock on!
love it
Awesome video bro! Thanks for all your educational videos. Love your channel! Keep up the good work bro.
P.S. love all your Kiesel guitars. Been trying to save up to get me one.
Nice, let me know what you get! And them know why you're there
Nice stuff
Awesome
The drop D king
Woof love this ...
Still love this video. Should do one in Drop D tuning but in the A Major context.
Awesome vid man. I pretty much only use drop tunings these days for these very reasons, biggest one being the big open chords you can get.
Been using DADGAD a lot lately and I love it so much, it’s so versatile.
Thank you!
DADGAD is fun as hell to play in, I keep one of my acoustics tuned to it at all times :)
It would be interesting a video doing the same thing on bass
Really enjoyed this one! Defffffffff not influenced by Adam Jones or anything......lol! Thanks for sharing
You got some adam Jones action going on!
Please release the full song ! Ive been repeating the intro ever since
Awesome lesson dude....I think I accidentally learned Chop Suey though lol
Check out Loneliness by Wintersun. Some gorgeous melody and dissonance going on there.
Do you have any videos where we can just listen to you play ambient melodies
Beautifully played, mr. axe. Man i love that drop d tuning. Hope you do more Tool covers in the future, anything off of new album would be much appreciated.
I've made a lesson for every song off the new album.
Sounds like dark ambient space rock
Love the video! Can I ask the model of that Guitar? It is gorgeous!
This tone is fucking mental 🔥🔥🔥
Unique lesson 👍
Never thought Dan Auerbach would be teaching me Tool.
wid this tone your strat would be awesome
Great video… Reminds me of Tool 🔧
Overlooked American made guitars in my opinion. Kiesel/Carvin guitars
first time i feel like i need an audio interface after 15 years of playing guitar and bass
This sounds sooo tool that even youtube recommendations on the right side are tool videos
Hii, great lesson and tone! Are you using a stock mic section in nolly and a preset or preset made for you?
Stock Mic. I want to say the preset is Ambient Wash? Slightly tweaked the preset to fit the mood.
Sounds Like Marcos Curiel From P.O.D.
What Effect Is That? Thanks In Advance
Please send this music to MJK. He will do the rest 😁
The Glitter Movement finds this comment ridiculous, unreasonable, and unrealistic. Such flights of fancy should be kept private so we don't needlessly suffer the deranged insensibilities of lesser beings. J/K. Post whatever you want. We're not your dad.
What are you amp settings like that you can have so much distortion and still be able to play drone notes and play a chord and have all the notes be as clear as a clean guitar might be?
I've come here from tool the pot video from 9 years ago 🤘, camera and mic is better 😅
