I primarily used this video as a reference for changing the rear shocks on my 2004 Tacoma Prerunner including ordering the shocks from KYB. Pretty simple job. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for the step by step explanation, attention to detail and great camera work showing exactly how it's done, e.g. proper bushing and washer placement.
Don't you just love easy jobs. The car is super clean underneath. That's pretty neat how you waited to cut the nylon strap. I'll be sure to try that the next time 👍

Fantastic videos, this one and the front shock replacement. I have this EXACT truck except it's an 04, same color and even the same tires, lol. It drives like total crap right now and I need to replace the shocks. You made it an easy decision to do this myself so thank you!
An amazing video , with all the informatiom so well presented and clear !! Thank you for taking your time to do a very good job, both the filmimg of the video and the actual repair . Your friend from P.R. , Edwin Oliveras
Correct, kybs bushing already on. Others take note the longer side of the bushing facing in. Saw another video where the guy put the short side in and nobody noticed.
Good video - I just bought some Gabriel Ultra for the rear on my 02 2WD Tacoma. They did not come with hardware. I am replacing some Ranchos that were not made for this truck so the hardware is different. Your video showed me what I need to come up with. Good info on nut size and torque - thanks. (I will not be buying Gabriel in the future)
Didn't have a digital but a manual click torque wrench. Set it on 20 but felt that was to tight, being that the bushings seemed really squished. Is that normal?
Maybe I get a new glove 🧤 too 😂 thanks for that video now I’m about to try to do it my self on a Tacoma 2002 4x4 it has to be the same process as the 4x2 👌
Thanks for sharing your informative video. I will be doing the same thing on my '01 Tacoma S-Runner. I am the original owner! Question for you: what's the make and model # of your torque wrench? Thanks again!
The KYB’s I bought for my 86 Nissan hardbody even with the band still left on the shock, the shock was still to long as it goes slightly past the bottom bolt. So cutting the band after installing the shock on the top bolt does not help. So basically I am left having to really “muscle” to compress that shock to get it on the bottom bolt. And yes, I double checked, they are the right shocks for that truck.
@@koreymayo8884 Thanks for specifying the PreRunner because that was my main question. I assumed the PreRunner would fall under the 4X4 specs because as you know it’s identical in every other way. Just wanted to make sure because 19 to 53 is a huge difference! I should’ve scrolled down here before I posted my question about that. Thanks!
A local mechanic wanted to charge me $400 to do just one set of shocks, what a ripoff! I'm good with this kind of stuff but I sure appreciate the lesson❤❤❤😂😂😂!

Wow, that was fantastic with the camera facing towards the shock to view your work.
Quality seem high and professional.

Thanks for the comment 👍!
Thanks for the video! I have an 02 as well with 319,610 miles on it and about to change my struts and shocks but it still runs like new
Awesome, thanks for the comment!
Is yours 2WD or 4WD?
Thanks so much. Might be a simple job, but having good direction is still nice. Appreciate it!

Easy ones are great! Thanks for the comment Jonathan.
Hey man that was an awesome video! Straight to the point and informative
Do you have to change the springs on the front or just the shock
Great video. To the point, well thought out, easy to understand.
Much appreciated!
Thank you, your video will save me a headache and time now.

Thanks for the video. The cutting the strap move was clutch, super easy.

Thanks for posting. Doing this job today on my 02.
Thanks for the comment!
I remember when I changed the shocks on my old ranger. I cut the strap and missed the stud on the lower mount lol. I couldn’t believe it 😂
Short, sweet, to the point. Perfect and thanks. It made my install quick and painless.

I appreciate the comment, thanks!
Excelent video , what are the name of tool you use with impact gun?
It is a Milwaukee impact wrench, there is a pinned comment with links to parts and tools I used (as well as the description). Thanks for the comment!
My tacomas definitely needs some rear shocks, lol
Hello Sir, did you jack the truck up? Thank you
No, not for the rear. If I did, I would have shown it.
Is the procedure the same if you jack it up to have more room? Would jacking it increase the potential of danger?
I just did mine kyb good shock from rock auto
👍
Sweet
Interesting that the box for the rear KYB shocks said "Made in Japan", but the KYB fronts were made in Mexico.
Many times the shocks have to be muscled in to place, it doesn't matter the make or model.
What are the torque specs on the rear?
19 foot pounds for regular cab, but for prerunner and 4wd which have the larger cab its 53 foot pounds.

Looks easy
It's not too difficult of a job but sometimes things always look easier on video ;)
Must be nice been pounding on mine for 2 days trying to get off 😩
You forgot to lube the muffler bearing. Rookie mistake
👍
