Your video was my primary reference for replacing the front struts on my 2004 Tacoma Prerunner. Putting the assembly back on without help was definitely a challenge. For the front left, I secured the crowbar in place with some nylon string and placed the crowbar under my arm pit. I then pressed down with all my weight while reaching down and around and moving the strut and pin through the hole. This took many tries, but it eventually worked. (Sore underarm for a few days afterward). For whatever reason, this method did not work for the front right. I had to lay down and move the crowbar down with my foot. Without these two hang-ups this would have been a much easier job. I should have recruited some help like you did. Thanks for posting. Great video.
Very well done video. Clear instructions with good visual to see the details. Also good point on buying the complete coil over instead of separate pieces, takes the anxiety of about compressing springs way off.
Wow !!! Perfect video. My friend, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. Now I can actually understand how to do this job. You've made it so much easier for the rest of us. One thing that makes your video great, is that it presents the images and the related information, in a simple way and very clearly. Once again, thank you ! Yor friend from Puerto Rico , Edwin
Very good video!! Been hunting all over my town for some shop to tackle this BUT prives are through the roof everywhere so, I guess I will do the job myself!!
If I can't get enough force on the pry bar to get the bolt in then I will put a rachet strap on it to pull it down. Rachet straps are very handy. I used one to pull my transmission jack with the transmission on it from the front of my Trailblazer to under it, because I had cardboard down for me to lay on and the jack would not roll over it easily when loaded down.

How they riding man? Made a huge difference I’m sure, dropping a new motor , trans, and new front end parts in my 98 in the next month Bought the truck off my dad who had it since new, course I’m 35 and have kids of my own, anyways I’m so ready to get mine done. It’s gonna be like a new truck
Mines still driving and just passed 300,000 but looking forward to seeing how much of an improvement it will be. How do you like that brand suspension?
The truck rides completely different but so much better than the old ones. I like the both of the brands (KYB Shocks and Monroe Struts). They seem to be good quality, good price, and they fit and work as they should. Good luck with all of the work on your truck! From the little bit of work I’ve done on this Tacoma, they seem to be awesome trucks.
Ordinary Car Guys Absolutely man, and thanks. My dad had this truck since I was in high school, always wanted it Even though I used to have some kick ass jeeps, I always wanted one. They are great trucks, I’m 100 percent sure doing all the work I mentioned so I’m super pumped to see the results. Thanks for the video my friend I’ll hit that subscribe button 👍
The below link should be to the installation instructions for a Rough Country 3” lift and it’s looks like that is all that they do, so I would say yes. www.4wheelparts.com/sku/Rough%20Country/standard/92745000.pdf
@@TheOrdinarySean I saw a youtube video as well where a guy was saying you needed a 4runner strut assembly for the double cab. Is this just bad info? I am getting ready to order some to replace mine on my 4 door.
@@stantoncook I did not use the 4runner strut assembly and everything seems to be fine over a year later. The 4runner strut assembly may be an overall better part when compared to the basic one I used. I'm not knowledgeable on the difference between the two parts, so I can't speak to that. However for my/my wife's use of the truck we didn't need anything special.
I bought mines this week put them on today. I watched the same video and gave it a go. I used the forunners specked one. Gave me a lift and wow i go through bunch of dips and bumps and they work wonderfull. its awesome. but ill come update in a year if it goes bad. but wont if its still good. 2004 toyota tacoma v6 prerunner. 3.4L
The old springs would be fine to use again, but these struts came with new springs and it was easier and safer to not mess with spring compressors to try to reuse the old springs

Great job bud, instructional videos are the most underrated on RUclips, thanks for showing us
Thanks for the video, just finished changing my 2003 Tacoma shocks, thanks again
Very in detail and could see everything perfect thanks for the help
Great video man I like the regular ordinary guy with hand tools because that's what I have too,, Thanks buddy, God Bless ya...
Nice! I'm in the process of researching and doing this myself on my 2002 model.
Thank you for this video - extremely helpful - awesome job! Merry Christmas!

Great video! I hope to do this on my '01 Tacoma soon, so thank you.
I saw your great video 8 times, man…thanks again.
Great job sr cuestión?
Don’t have to do an alignment right ?
Thanks!!
i have to do all the steering components plus new coils, shocks, leafsprings..breaks and rotors.
Do you have a link for the replacement shocks?
Great video! Thanks for calling out all the nuts and bolts sizes. Awesome! Subscribed!!!
Question, I have a 04 Tacoma crew cab and I’m looking to replace the front spring/strut complete setup. What setup/parts did you use? 4Runner set?
Do you happen to have parts numbers for the new shocks and struts?
Excellent video!
Great Video! Thanks!
Never tried the pry bar over the control arm into the spring to loosen that bottom bolt. I'll be doing that next time

What coilovers did you use?
Great video man!
Informative, wish you had mentioned how much torque was needed on the struts. What brand of struts/shocks did you get?
I appreciate your help man
Very helpful video! Thanks
Good job Bro. You are awesome
Cheater bars my go to when loosing bolts, I’ve used a impact wrench sometimes it doesn’t work, and pb blasters works good too
Great video!!!did you bought them online? Link please...

Where did you get the complete struts front ones. Google gives me the same sites and they have shit..
Awesome video, man. Thank you.
Thank you sir!
Thanks brother , video helped
Is no one going to talk about how you torque the center bolt to 22 ft/lbs
Great video. I drive a 2002 prerunner as well. What type of shocks and struts did you go with?
Instead of try to follow the rear shock down after cutting the band can’t you just use a jack to jack the lower position up to meet the shock?
Great video
whats the brand shocks ?
Where did you buy your complete assembly
Advance Auto
Thanks
where do you jack from to lift up the front of your tacoma? I got a 2wd first-gen too.
I put the jack under each front lower control arm to lift
Thank you for the very helpful video . From P.Rico , Edwin Oliveras
Can I add a 3’ spacer on top of the new strut and lift it?

For a 4X2, Why?
@@bernhoog9114 aesthetics 💅
Did you end up having to go with the forerunner front struts because of the weight of the double cab
No, we were able to use the standard strut that fits the Tacoma. There seems to be no issue with the weight on it.

Any idea for the torque to tighten the bolts?

Why not use the old springs ??? High miles...???
