Dry brushing definitely
Drybrushing and gradients. I don't know why, but those are my weaknesses. And because I have general issues because og my disabilities, I'm even more frustrated with the things that's going to be my killers. And I love watercolor, so I'm so upset.
Wet on wet technique. I really struggle controlling the amount of water. I guess i should practice a lot. 😢 Well anyway, another great video from you. Thanks!

8:50 I think that is a great technique, if you want to paint something, that is in the distance.
I was just thinking that, it gives that nice sort of distance blur, like for branches that wouldn’t be in focus. Then the ones in front would be painted dry and it’d give depth?
I guess it’d have to be painted in a less obvious colour than the items in the foreground though (but I’m still learning).

I followed this, and it came out like pooh. So I did more searching and found a different video about things that can go wrong with watercolors. I had cellulose, no size, and it was rough!
So I went to the craft store and got cotton, sized with gelatin, and cold pressed. THEN it worked!!
So, between two videos, I finally learned how to get the dreamy watercolor I've always wanted to make.

Wet on wet can definitely be one of the trickiest watercolour techniques 😊
All of these are incredibly useful for in my art and junk journals. I mix lovely watercolour paper with scrapbook papers and upcycle book pages and paint on all of them. I need all of this advice....and from the look of it some new brushes too! Thanks Kirsty❣️ joie 🌿😀
Turns out there’s a little more to the salt technique than what you showed. I threw the salt on and it didn’t do anything right away so I let it sit. After some time it actually did exactly what you said it would do but then the salt was wet and when I tried to brush it off it redeposited some color in places I didn’t want it. So I try to second one that I’ll just leave it on there until it dries... nope... it became one with the paper. I spent half the morning chipping the salt off of the paper surface.
And i wish she had said which kind of paper is better for it....normally she is much more informative....maybe theres another vid where she splains it
Going from light to dark. Anybody who colors with inks already knows this is a must.
I don't use it as much with paint since it's a bit more forgivable. Paint can be lightened (to a point) but ink it set once it's put.
I'm going to try some of these with my inks.
Still getting used to using all coloring mediums. From simple crayola crayons, fine wax colored pencils, watercolor & acrylic paint, copic marker, ink.
Some of the mixed pieces I've seen are absolutely unbelievable.

I like watercolours cuz even if you fail it can still look cool, but at the same time if you fail big time, there is no turning back 🙈 So it's a forgiving and unforgiving medium. I have to say though, I have always loved watercolour paintings
Okay, but to be all honest here, that last "don't" 5:05 with all the green actually looks pretty cool. It's like you're looking down at a jungle.😁😊

I am not a watercolor person but, these videos are really helpful! If u could make a video about burnishing skin, 'cause at times we have to add different layers of colors, so when we finally burnish, the skin tone that we were looking for is not there. Of the mediums you use; what is your favorite? And wich medium do you find the hardest and wich the easiest to use?
Watercolor is my favourite. I find coloured pencil to be one of the hardest mediums to use because it is so time consuming and is a long process to layer and blend the pencils 😊 for me charcoal is the easiest medium to use, but that is just my opinion

What I learned is it’s okay to use Gouache on watercolor paintings if you need white highlights. I knew from experience that you can’t, or you’re not supposed to, use white watercolor to achieve highlights after most of your painting is completed. Leaving plain paper is a great highlight.

Adding W&N Blending Medium to the paint itself or the rinse water will give you more time to blend your desired colors and do wet-on-wet blending.
This may not be necessary if you live in a humid climate, but if you're like me and live in an arid climate with single digit humidity year-round, this medium could come in handy.

I went a little crazy at a local art store's sale (everything painting wise was 50% off wowie!) And over eager me accidentally bought a huge water color canvas among the other ones I picked out and well I can't waste it, not having very much experience with water color or not, so this video will hopefully help me create something worthy of my mistaken purchase :3

- Wet on wet method
- Even layer of water on paper
- Mix a put paint colours on other surface (so water on paper doesn’t dry out and the watercolour bleeds properly)
- Work from light colours to dark colours
- If your paper begins to dry make the paper until
- Salt technique
- Good for flowers, snowflakes, galaxy
- Make sure paper is glossy (no pools of water or too dry)
- Wet on dry method
- For fine details
- Make sure it is competly dry
- Add highlights
- Leave areas white
- Elite painting doesn’t have to be water colour everywhere
- Use white white paint
- Perverse hight lights use white pen

Just a quick tip for people trying silk painting, using the salt method can work really well, with rock salt or basic table salt - just add some for texture/interest while the paint is still damp.
This is ever so much helpful as I have more experience with oils and have been trying to understand as well as learn to copy cat some of the professionals such as yourself. You keep me trying and having my paternal grandfather leave me his set of watercolors makes me love watercolor even more. So thank you so much ❤️
The salt technique also depends on your paint. It works by pushing the pigment away leaving the bare paper under. If it is dye based, or has heavy ground pigment, or even certain types of binders it simply won't work. Common issue with inexpensive paint but even some more expensive brands as well... and sometimes just individual colors. Test a swatch first.
There are " NO " do's and dont's in watercolouring!!! Sometimes, the most "awkwardly accidental" are the most "beautiful" artworks in watercolor!
This ^^ experimentation is vital, as is mileage.
....and if you saw my watercolour - none of the accident are beautiful LOL
Some Don'ts can actually ruin the piece. Like scrubbing, or bleeding.
I agree! much of my great artistic joys have come from mistakes, but this video is also very helpful for people looking to understand how watercolor painting works in a very straightforward way.

I don’t remember if you mentioned this, but for good wet on wet technique you must use quality paper. I find arches 140 lb cold press to be the best for lovely wet on wet, while others, even great quality 100% cotton, don’t work as well. This is because different brands use different sizings. So if people are struggling getting the wet on wet results they want, try a different paper.

Ok so like, I kind of gave up on watercolor because I'm dumb and for wet on wet I would just put a big blob of puddled water and then add my paint into the blob and paint with it. Now that I know how to really do it I want to try watercolor again

how do we avoid the cauliflower effect but still blend darker colors?
You have to apply it in a light layer first. Build the intensity in layers, add more paint to the water on then mixing pallet not directly on the paper
Love your tutorials. I sometimes loose my sketch when I try this. Do you apply fixative of some sort to retain your sketch.
Art By Connie Dawn Hey! This is from my personal POV but I have found that hairspray works. Spray it over your pencil sketch let it dry and begin painting. This works on canvas and paper so it’s good for basically any medium. This is just a quick fix that can be cheaper and easier to find then fixative. Anyway have fun!
