THE REAL THREAT | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (September 29, 2024)
Today is the Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time; and in the gospel, we will hear a valuable lesson, which we often forget.
The disciple John reports to Jesus how they prevented a man driving out demons in Jesus’s name because he does not belong to their group. But the Lord says: “Do not prevent him. There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me. For whoever is not against us is for us.”
This remark is a good reminder to all of us. First, there is power in Jesus’s name. Secondly, none of us can claim a monopoly of the blessings that could come from the holy name of Jesus. We must share it, and be very glad when like us, others begin recognizing and believing in Jesus.
But why do we consider others as a threat? Just because they are outside our inner circle? The Lord tells us that the true threat comes from our sinfulness and from causing our brothers and sisters to sin.

We need a good discerning leader filled with the gift of wisdom like Prophet St. Moses because even though his subordinates like General Joshua was holy and on the side of God, they may not understand the way the "outsiders" or those who are doing God's will but are unusual to the common faithful. Catholics should stop fearing the unusual but truthful conveyors of God's message. By your message, Eminence, you become a Prophet Moses of today, and maybe there would be people who would believe what the likes of those two have to say in our time.

Many priests and bishops are imagining threats from the gossipers and bashers when they have many mistakes that when corrected with scripture, catechism and canon law references, they would just dismiss those people and would say in their homilies that they're the victims when they previously spoke or acted against the commandments of God.
