Just for the record ... that is *not* the music I listen to. Shoes are super epic though. Very impressive design. 👌
But that would be the music I, a fellow bald guy, would listen to.
Should repeat and try to beat the alpha fly record, as lincon's mom says just for fun :)
U hitman
Damm you're an extreme durability tester and an all kind of tester. Lol
I got to say Leslie Roasting you was pretty funny lol
The shoes didn't break the record, the runner did...
Saying that is like saying the landspeed record was broken by the driver, not the car. Yes the Kipchoge was probably the only one who could do it, but he couldn't have done it without the shoe. I've heard that the shoe gives you a 4% advantage over other shoes (which, over a 2 hour race, is around 5 minutes; quite a lot, considering the record was broken by a lot less than that)
Ghost Bandit no. Because it that scenario the car is what is moving and doing the work. It think it actually the opposite. The shoes are like the driver. Better driver means car go faster, but at the end of the day it comes to runner
@@tavasp really I'm trying to say that the success is a team effort. Yes Kipchoge was likely the only person who could have broken the record, but Kipchoge wouldn't have been able to do it without the shoes. To me, a runner's shoes are like a formula 1 driver's car. The best driver in the world can't beat an average driver in the best car if they use a Ford focus. And an average driver in the best F1 car won't win if the best driver is using a formula 1 car as well. But it takes the best driver (in terms of long distance running,, Kipchoge) in the best car (the shoes) to reach and surpass the record.
Ghost Bandit yeah but the analogies don’t work for the same reason I said. The car is the the thing actually moving and doing the work.
Ghost Bandit I’m pretty sure Kipchoge can run a faster marathon barefoot than most people can with the “best” shoes. I agree that shoes matter, but not as much as Nike want you to believe.
imagine running a sub 2 hour marathon and all everyone's blaming it on the shoes
Have you watched f1, a team has a good season and is dominant and boom the other teams try finding something.
@@BauhauF For real!, F1 teams be crazy
Yeah they ignore the fact that the guy ran with the shoes TRAINING for marathon running.
The best way to counter it, is to run sub 2 hours with a different pair of shoes.
He wouldn't have beat 2h without shoes, why are you upset?
Imagine making a shoe so good it’s considered cheating
best marketing ever
No cap
yikes ! lol
its not. you still can't beat the Kenians regardless. they can run barefoot and still going to win
Nike should partner with Michelin or Firestone to have a durable outsole like what Adidas have with Continental under their ultraboost shoes
Etnies uses Michelin for their shoes so it could be possible.
Was just thinking, too bad they don't improve the outsole durability
Nah Goodyear better lol
They do that on purpose though. Light, not durable materials specifically to train for and run the race, thats about it.
They use light materials that are less durable to help people run faster these are only really used for a race so durability is not that important. Plus most pros that use these have better form then him and weigh next to nothing
"Nike was able to have one of their runners...[etc]" um excuse me, Nike didn't break two hours. ELIUD KIPCHOGE broke two hours
TBH it's both.
Eliud Kipchoge is my favorite athlete!
Its all marketing, they make us talk about their latest invention...... Idk if the shoes help the runners to run faster or not but the point is to make public talk about their brand....

Can you run a 7 minute mile?
When zack isnt getting phones to test and he still wants to continue his hobby.
OK, 2 things……the fibres in the zoom air unit prevent the airbag from “ballooning” and keep the desired shape and low profile. When they use to call it tensile air they were using 40psi and the bags would inflate like a ball, they came up with fibres inside to hold the airbag to the desired shape and profile they wanted, tensile air became zoom air.
Next, if the shoes wear quickly (as expensive as they are) just run in them until you wear them out, snap the carbon fibre plate and call nike for a warranty replacement, Nike will warranty a shoe for 2 years from the date of manufacturing so they will replace the shoe (several times in fact), so there’s that if you wanna get “value” for your money.
But how do you pop out the carbon fiber plate without destroying the shoe?

I myself am a runner and have been running with Nike technology for a couple years. I have done lots of research on these shoes and basically the Vaporfly save at least 4% of your energy and returns your energy forward. I believe that Zack didn't run that much faster purely because of the shoes. It could've been the adrenaline he got because of them plus the comfort and returned energy. Also, it's no surprise he ran that much faster especially that he ran his last three mile time trial in Addidas
You’ve done lots of research and found out that a shoe called the vaporfly 4% saves 4% of your energy. I really hope that didn’t take lots of research to find out.
fr adidas are pretty mid. Also is it just me or did he look kinda lacking in stability?
I just looked back at this video haha and saw my comment. Sjeffy I was just saying that Zack mainly improved his performance because he was running in pretty mid running shoes and then ran in the best marathon shoes Nike has ever made, which will easily help with his performance. These shoes are what we call race day shoes. They are super fragile, hence unsuitable for trainings and are only to be used during your race / marathon. You'd probably need to replace them after a couple of races from the wear. But do not be mistaken, these shoes are THE BOMB, they are so good that they've actually been banned from official races because they were considered an unfair advantage.

While the alphafly is a fast shoe, the ultraboost is also an extremely slow shoe. When compared to another Nike shoe such as the Pegasus 37, the difference would not be as significant.
I have a pair ultra boost and it’s not that good ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
its not slow per say, but it just feels more lethargic when getting off the ground.
@@jay-wt4dv the ultraboost line is definitely on the heavy side of "running" shoes which does lead to extra usage of energy while running in them.
Gillie Suarez not just that, you wouldn’t see anyone really train in them rather only for like a slow day
I can't imagine anyone who runs semi competitively or works at a running store describing ultraboosts as "running shoes". A peg or daily trainer would be the bare minimum for a proper comparison or baseline. I'd rather a test against the other marathon racing shoes - the previous generation of go-to shoe adidas Boston or adios or similar.
Get them to Casey. That will be a proper test.
Nothing lasts with Casey LMFAO
Corno van Zyl these shoes aren’t meant to be that durable

The 2 hour barrier was broken using prototype shoes with 2 carbon inserts (if I'm not mistaken). I believe the rules now allow for only 1 carbon insert.
I always thought it was 3 carbon plates? Plus 2 airbag type things?
Yes they do make you more efficient, but let’s be honest. They don’t make you that much faster at 7-8 minute per mile pace...Jerry was just going faster because of the video, and he was being filmed
Yea, he could be excited. With new shoes you’re probably happy and ready to go.
I’m a pretty average runner (I run about a 1:50 half marathon) and I can tell you these shoes make a huge difference. The first time I wore them I just went for a standard run and it actually felt like my Garmin watch was reporting the wrong times per km. The second time I wore them I got a PB half marathon by a few minutes. I can pretty much guarantee that any runner is going to run better in carbon fibre shoes then standard shoes.
💯
The wear and tear on the shoes is because of the way he runs. His structure and the way his foot hits the ground is probably causing a lot of his speed issue, his knee hurts when he runs because of the pronation when he runs
His was running flat footed, isn’t that fine?
@@chrisawesome3091 flat footed is fine but he lands on the inside of his foot and rolls inward. This puts stress on his IT band and causes his knee pain most likely
@@jfrogfoot how to avoid this?

The alfafly makes you faster but on 3 miles is the max time that you can run faster 30 seconds
1. When running that slow, the Alphafly will literally not make any difference unless he was using crocs on his first run. The benifits are not felt unless at speeds above 4:00 min per km.
2. These men are clearly not runners and should not be regarded as any authority on the subject.

It wasn’t the shoes that made kipchoge run sub 2 hour marathon , of course it may have helped but the media made it seem it was all about the shoe rather than kipchoge. Eliud kipchoge is an amazing runner and probably would have been able to do this without those amazing thousand pound shoes .
No like it literally was the shoes. I’m sure he could run a 2:05 with legal shoes, but breaking 2 hours is impossible without illegal equipment, a perfectly flat course, and Pacers with you to draft. Please don’t undersell the advantage of carbon fiber shoes. Even cutting 30 seconds of your time is MASSIVE in a sport this competitive.
12:22 bubble bass was hiding the pickles again
Wow! A 21 minute run and already showing major wear to the foam out sole.
The alpha fly that Kipchoge broke 2 hours with is actually different. It had 3 carbon fibre plates.

0:35, vaporfly 4% (pink) was not used in initial 2hr attempt. That was Nike vaporfly 4% Elite (custom version of Nike Vaporfly 4%). secondly 1:34 Alphafly Next% you have is a downgraded version of the custom one Eliud Kipchoge wore.
Kipchoge broke the record, not Nike. Still a good cutting open video
You are correct about the Vaporfly Elite in Monza, but the Alphafly is the exact same shoe as Vienna. Some people think there were three carbon plates in Vienna because of a patent, however EK wore the same one plate shoe as what they’re selling now.

Eliud did not wear the Vaporfly Next% when he missed 2 hours by 25 seconds, he wore the Vaporfly 4% and that was a specific event hosted by Nike. He set the marathon world record in Berlin in an actual race in the Next%. The next year Nike hosted another special event to pace him in the Alphaflys when he broke 2. Also the vapor/alphaflys are meant to be light not durable, they make a zoomfly, which are identical in design but use the durable heavier react foam.

If it's the fastest running shoes, why cant it beat me in a marathon and just stay at starting line?
Checkmate, shoes.
I'd like to see a longevity test of them, see how quick Zack wears them out if they got chewed up that much in just one run, Wouldn't be worth it if you had to spend a few hundred dollars every months for shoes
You aren’t supposed to run in them every day though
Theyre not shoes designed for everyday running. They are racing shoes
They're road racing shoes, designed for just races. I have a pair of the vaporfly next% which are also considering racing flats but they hold up a little better for training.
tha'ts how nike makes money dude
there are 2 types of shoes, race shoes and daily trainers. daily trainers last 400-600 miles while race shoes last 100-200 miles. these are races shoes so they're better for races, not the training. they aren't made to be worn everyday.
‘And for that, we need a “runner”’
* 24 minute 5k runner appears
Me: 🤔
Stefan Urquidi I’ve done 5k in 27 and I’m 12
That’s pretty good what do you classify as a runner? Someone who runs sub 20 5ks?
Lamp Pole obviously I’m not gonna demand a 20 minute 5k from a 11 year old or something, so age plays a factor, but for a guy age 16-30 I’d want at least that ( sub 20 ) maybe sub 19 tbh
Lamp Pole that being said I know stuff happens, so for me it’s really not about the 5k time, but when I hear the term “runner” I’d think of someone who is running/ training everyday, and who has some competitive racing experience. It’s not because I have anything against people who don’t have these qualities, it’s just the results from someone who isn’t running consistently would be far too inconsistent to come to a real conclusion, the guy in the video has run a couple 5ks, but since he’s not training everyday and he hasn’t already been in racing shape for a long time, who’s to say if it’s the shoes or he’s simply become more fit, there’s no way to prove that his jump in speed was attributed to the shoes
Lol yeah a 24 min 5k is the pace I do arobics at
I ran my grade 7 track and field with normal nike running shoes and took my dads alphafly's for grade 8 track day and the difference was nuts

Nothing wrong with breaking the record in better running shoes. Kind of like how basketball players used to wear converse, but now use shoes with better support/cushioning to absorb impact. Or how climbing shoe companies sell shoes with different kinds of rubber so climbers can pick and choose the best shoe for the given terrain they aim to climb
