Someone is making a TCRF page for this prototype, help contribute to the page! tcrf.net/Proto...) (add a ")" to the end of that url)
Soundtrack: • Puyo Puyo Fever NAOMI ...
Extracted contents of the prototype cartridge: drive.google.c...
This is a prototype of the Sega NAOMI version of Puyo Puyo Fever, I've seen this on multiple ROM sites but as far as I know, nobody has really documented it. So here's a video of the game running in DEMUL, which is the only emulator that can run the game currently to my knowledge, if you notice any distortion in the audio, that's the emulator, not the game. I documented the differences between this and the final here: phantasystaron...
I have a theory that this is a build for TGS 2003 as a test, as SEGA held a Puyo Puyo Fever tournament there using a GameCube version with graphics and music from this prototype, and the files contained on the cartridge date to 9/9/2003, a couple of weeks before the tournament.
Music is different, a lot of graphics aren't complete or are using placeholders, RunRun and HaruHaru courses are not accessible, the AI isn't the smartest, a lot is different in this version of the game. Unlike the final version, the prototype is running on a NAOMI cartridge, not a GD-ROM.
I JUST ADDED CAPTIONS EXPLAINING A FEW THINGS ABOUT THIS PROTOTYPE! BE SURE TO ENABLE THOSE!
I have a question. Was this the first Puyo game to write "All Clear" in Roman letters like Tetris does?
GOOD DAY TO YOU MISS AMITIE
i'll be honest, the puyo community is shit at documenting both old obscure puyo games and prototypes... like very few people are good at it like you my man, doing gods work.
edit: also klug's chain voice is much more whispered in this.
i mean, i don't blame them as much since a lot of old obscure puyo stuff are japan exclusive and came out at a time when archiving this stuff wasn't a real priority
i don't understand how nobody documented this prototype though when it's been around since 2014 and was on multiple rom sites and rom lists
in terms of dumping this stuff? thank MetalliC, not me
@@RoxasFromPoss alrighty and i can see where your coming from.
I'm honestly surprised that the puyo community is so apathetic when it comes to prototypes/prereleases considering that other video game fan communities (Sonic in particular) are usually ecstatic about getting ANY prerelease/prototype info.
@@powerkirbybomber6503 not for me, i fucking drop at the sight of prototype stuff my dude, I'm passionate about it.
Popoi's theme here definitely was the most notable music change for me. Sounds pretty neat though
I love the moody AI at how sometimes it drops Puyos at the maximum possible speed but then suddenly relax for no reason at all.
Wow! This was really well made. I wish the Tsu ports, especially PS1 and Saturn, were as well documented as this prototype was.
it's super interesting to see protoypes of the games! thanks for uploading this.
also i agree, oshare is great.
Interesting! I really liked this proto's version of Popoi's theme. Also, I'm surprised that this proto hasn't been catalogued on TCRF (or any wiki for that matter).
Also, I just created an article (warning: work in progress) for this prototype on TCRF. I linked your video to it (and gave you credit for it) so I hope you don't mind.
i don't mind at all, actually i appreciate it, thank you!
The music change towards Puyo Puyo FUNderland for this prototype makes it sound like it belongs in Mario Kart Double Dash!
I burst out laughing at Taisen 1 (the song that plays on the first four stages), the trumpets are incredibly off on the prototype. xD
"This game is to be used only in Japan."
HOW MANY TIMES HAVE THEY PUT THAT???
That's because Japanese exclusive arcades had to put this warning for no reason
Useless fact: There was a dancing Madō Monogatari/Puyo Puyo game called Puyo Puyo Da!

Wikipedia says that this game came out in arcades worldwide on November 26th of 2003 but yet you say here that it wasn't planned to be localized not yet at least, and the Puyo Nexus wiki says it only came out in Japan and not anywhere else. Even though I have seen of what I think was a video on the English version of the arcade rom, with the voices and everything. All of this being said it could just be wrong and it's just some hoaxes.
EDIT: Just looked it up and there's literally an English flyer for the game so maybe it did come out in arcades in the states after all.
oops! thanks for catching that lol, there is indeed an english version of the arcade game (i even used the fonts it uses in my own puyo fever projects) and im pretty sure i was aware if its existence by the time i added captions to this vid, dunno why i didnt go back and fix that
Wowowo that's HD puyopop fever gba ? 😍😍😍
Can someone rip the music? I love it!
edit: we did it. :)
can someone post it to kh insider.
Holy crap black outlines for the characters... that's... weird...
