I watched this movie over and over again as a toddler and couldn't figure out why I liked the song so much. 20 years old now, now I see why, I so very much appreciate and relate to the emotion and longing expressed. And what's better is that I now understand why we have it, why everyone has this whole in their lives.. we were designed for our Creator

@@bboynewsboy991I hear ya! This is one of those songs that vibrates on a very deep spiritual frequency. It expresses that innate desire for intimacy with the One who crafted your soul for unity with Him.
James Horner’s unique ability to craft music that hits this deep is the reason he is my favorite composer.

FUN FACT: Originally Celine Dion was going to record this song and was going to be on her 2nd English Language album. However, the team decided to go back to Linda Ronstadt after having record SOMEWHERE OUT THERE for the first AMERICAN TAIL. That was a huge devastation for Celine. It reminded of who she is and a movie song. James Horner (who co-wrote the song) would eventually team up with Celine for what would be her REAL signature song MY HEART WILL GO ON from TITANIC.
A few days after Celine being replaced for DREAMS TO DREAM, her manager (and eventual husband) Rene Angelil got another movie film offer from Disney...... recording the theme song from BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. At first, Celine actually refused to do it because of how disappointed she was from that initial AMERICAN TAIL theme song. It took some convincing between Disney and Celine's team. They showed her the film being in its final editing stages with the animation. She loved it but then got emotional hearing Angela Lansbury's version in the film as "Mrs. Potts". She said, YES. Recording it as a duet with Peabo Bryson, BEAUTY ended up being a hit and it earned Celine her first Grammy Award!!!

Linda might not of liked the song when she recorded it, but I ❤️ it. As a child who had a rough upbringing, I wished so much that my parents my parents could’ve understood me. When a family is chaotic and fractured, it’s hard for kids to express themselves because a natural reaction to family destruction is becoming shelled in. Dreams get squandered in that kind of environment, yet the imagination of an introverted child are filled with dreams to dream.

    • @rodeoruz

She was just so darn brilliant! The way she could also do a cover version of someone else's song and totally 'own' it and make it her own by making songs even better than the original version(s).
ABBA's Agnetha's vocal brilliance in a song like "The winner takes it all" is perfection to the point where other cover versions just sound mediocre by comparison. It has always been my opinion that only Linda Ronstadt could do a cover version of that particular song like that and do justice to it by singing to same equal standard.

BUT, I finally REALLY listened to the lyrics: "The words I say, no one hears...my life, it seems is a world of dreams. Deep in the night, you'll find me..." Oh dear son, "come with me--you will see what I mean..." I also have a world inside me no one else seems to see. But you (and this song) have CHANGED me. This song was originally recorded by Celine Dion, but then unknown Canadian singer was eventually fired from the project, as Linda was the bigger name producers wanted. She loved Celine's demo and agreed to record the song. Celine was devastated by that... But soon she was offered Beauty and the Beast, and the rest is history.

An American Tail: Fievel Goes West
Perfect song for this film 👍

  • @EclipseHedgehog

"Fievel Goes West" is one of those very rare animated sequels that got as big a budget as its predecessor, something I wish Universal did with their other movies like Land Before Time 2 or Balto Wolf Quest even though the original team behind the first movie never planned or probably even wanted a sequel in the first place. There were plans for it to have a theatrical release but it was scrapped.

Wow, that's shame 😕 😞. I grew up watching Universal Studios 2-D animated movies like The Land Before Time, two An American Tail and I used to watch two Balto movies back in 2000s era while I was toddler and younger ages after I was born on September 23rd, 1997.

Celine Dion also recorded this song - but they ultimately went with Linda’s because Celine was relatively unknown in English markets at the time. Linda’s voice is beautiful here and I hope we all get to hear Celine’s version one day too, which I’m sure is also beautiful. Fortunately for Celine, Beauty and the Beast was just around the corner and her English career skyrocketed in the 90s.

Every human being is a unique creation just like the notes of a song. Ms. Ronstadt chooses songs that she, herself, said made her cry. Her voice echoes in the chambers of our heart and penetrates the soul when spoken words fail us. This was just exquisitely beautiful. And Jimmy Stewart's voice declaring "one man's sunset, is another man's dawn...well, that just really darn near did me in!

I don't know if this generation will ever truly have a moment like the US had right after the USSR collapsed. The constant fear of nukes wasn't looming over their heads for the first time in decades, two Generations had never felt that kind of peace. And yeah, the Iraq war happened, but the draft was gone, if you were over there, it's cause you chose to be. The rest of us could just live our lives without a villain threatening to blow us up.

such a beautiful song. once in a while a song is written that fits a singer perfectly. Linda has had many of these songs that she has recorded. they sound like they were written just for her. and her talent brings them to life. love you and my prayers are with you and your family. Thanks for the music!!!!!!!!!!!!!
