I doubt they ever release it. That will take the only defense the fanatics have for it - it not being finished that's why it's not perfect yet. Star Citizen is Eve Online + No Man's Sky + Elite Dangerous + something like Mass Effect and I highly doubt it can ever be achieved with how many features and desires the devs and players have for it. I think the devs were always afraid to release it because of the hype and fear that disappointed players will not buy ships. If they released it and it ended up being a worse Eve Online but with planet interaction, I doubt players would have stayed for long. Eve barely retains new players and lives because of its long history and player-shaped space during its 18 years. Star Citizen lacks all that and will require ton of commitment from players - that is, if it was ever planned to be released. It could have been a scam from the start.

Like, I'm genuinely curious at what point devs changed their attitude. Was it the money? Or was it the realization that the game in their heads is an impossible dream? @@133hardrock I mean they are still working extremely hard on it. I actively play the game, and of course its very buggy, etc. But still really fun once you get into it. The thing a lot of people don't understand, is that Star Citizen isn't supposed to be just like any other game. They want to make a full, extremely real and vast simulator. From what they have said, they are relatively close to finishing their first system and have begun production on the next one. And there will be 100. And after they finish this one, and get some of the backend technology they want, such as their server meshing and iCache system, then they say it will be relatively easy for them to produce system with pretty high detail.

Ok. Chicago Reacts... there is seriously something wrong with you. When I first saw this video by myself, it was immediately obvious that Sean was NOT a liar (at least not beyond what is expected of normal people). YOU...YOU kept insisting Sean was a liar. Multiple multiple times it was explained in explicit detail how the truth of "No Man's Sky" was far more complicated than some random developer lying for a quick buck.
Internet Historian told you outright that at the time, Hello Games thought they could pull everything off, but the Sony deal, plus lack of time, plus interview talk, plus realities of journalism, plus $60 price tag, PLUS the fact that Sean was literally forbidden from telling the truth (reeling back expectations) meant he was a victim of circumstance.
Throughout this reaction you weren't listening to a thing being said. What was actually covered in the first half was the insane hype followed by painful reality, expectations followed by result; but you interpreted it all as lying initially and you never stopped to confirm and you never allowed yourself the time to gather more information. You were so busy being angry that you lost multiple opportunities to learn anything new. Hell! You were so hellbent on being angry that you (in a moment of arrogance) declared how rubbish it was that the video was called "The Engoodening of No Man's Sky." You hadn't finished watching the video and yet you ran your mouth as if you knew any better. Ate your words pretty hard didn't ya?
I am deathly serious when I say this: Chicago Reacts...you are mentally ill. I am not trying to be a dick. I have extensive experience with human psychology and I'm telling you the hard truth. You get angry way too easy. You don't focus or listen to anything, especially when you get angry or fearful. You lack self-control, you lack focus, you lack self-awareness, you virtue signal like crazy, and you talk as if you're a God damned superhero of moral virtue who has more answers than he really does. If someone wanted to, they could manipulate you like a puppet on strings, and you'd be none the wiser.
I say all this in the hopes that you see this and seriously confront whatever hidden pain has you knotted up so much. You talk as if you're a good man but you're not; no one is; and that's the whole point. You are selling yourself short, and you don't even realize it.
In fairness though, watching you turn gleeful and exuberant after hearing about the Hello Games redemption arc was pretty awesome and heart-warming...

Fun fact: "Lying" is how all video game PR is done, you tell the audience what will be in the game, despite the fact that the game doesn't even exist yet and is still in prototyping stages, so unless you have a studio that's able to tell whether or not something is possible within 2 years of development, which is impossible for an indie studio to do, then you're kind of just screwed because you have to say what you want to put in the game and just gamble on whether or not it's actually possible and when you have AAA investors, then even by the time you find out that it's impossible, you're not allowed to tell anyone. This means that, in actuality, Sean wasn't lying on purpose, he was just putting forth all of the plans without being able to tell if they were too ambitious or not.

When you make a mistake - be it being found out in a lie or otherwise being found out doing something wrong - there's a right way and a wrong way to proceed. The instinctive reaction is try and cover it up or to get defensive. But those responses almost always make things worse. Instead, if you own up to your mistake and make a genuine effort to fix it as well as taking steps to ensure it won't be repeated, well people really appreciate it.

I feel Star Citizen is in a complicated state. Some hate it deeply some love it religiously. I do like the game for the way it looks and feels and how far it came but still can see many problems. There are many Bugs, Servers are small and missions (+ the reputation system) need to be improved to make the gameplay loops motivating in the long term perspective. But for a space simulator it is entertaining, for me and my friends at least. It can definitely be frustrating at times and it is far from a persistently pleasant experience. But it is in alpha still and it has its moments (sometimes it is just breathtakingly beautiful for example). We play the game every time a new update arrives to play around with. It just seems like the scope of this game is simply gigantic and that takes a long time taking small steps. My scepsis will be fully gone if the new persistent Server Cashing (ICash for those interested) comes this or next year. That would be something more of a more substantial step to a playable game than just new missions or a new ship. I have also played in the first Server wide collaborative event this year and I think I got small glimpse of the potential that the game has. Time will tell if the game will release to the promised extend. I feel, for what fun I got, my money was well spent.
That’s where I think Star Citizen is, cheers

Everytime I see this video it makes me want to buy No Man's Sky... Considering how much fun i had with a free trial a while back, i might need to finally make good on that desire

They've added more than everything promised, and have added even more since.. Massive planetary generation updates. (Seriously the planets are insane). Weather overhauls, you can capture pets like pokemon. Underwater base building if you want. Walking mech suits you can drive.
Procedural dungeons in terms of abandoned freighters you can explore with stories attached to them (stories are randomly generated as well).
You can even hatch, and grow your own living alien ship...
They even added the fabled Sand Worms, except made them 10x more awesome, because they aren't just massive worms, but they'll launch themselves hundreds of feet into the air and come crashing back down, and they are MAAAAASSSIIIVEEE
There is literally no reason not to get No Man's Sky.

Man I’m not sure if you just didn’t listen to 1/2 the video or are just like intentionally ignoring any part of it that disagrees with you but up until 40minutes in there’s like a disturbing lack of empathy or like basic understanding for the developer’s position.
I dunno maybe I’m totally crazy but the just repetition of “yah but you lied” every time a point was made as if it’s the most damning thing possible felt absurd. Like video game companies talking about one thing and ending up with another is honestly just par for the course and acting like this guys much more innocent and honestly somewhat accidental version of that was just this sin against the human race, just felt unnecessarily toxic and harsh to me.
At the end you’re like “wait is this a good story?” As if it’s a surprise but I feel like the only reason it comes as a huge shock is because until the last possible second you were just full in on “yah fuck that guy”.
I dunno, maybe I just have a weird perspective since this is only the second video I saw from you, but it just left a super sour taste in my mouth.

Anyone looking to start playing firstly, amazing time to do so, secondly I highly recommend finding yourself a half an hour to 40 minutes "what to do at the very start of no man's sky" type video and it'll get you off the planet and exploring as soon as possible. It's easy to spend way too much time getting acclimatised with what you'll need to get operational, then realise it's only a toe dipped in the ocean cause it's so in dept. You'll enjoy it, and if I see you at the Nexus I might make you rich Happy travelling

In regard to Star Citizen, just a few points:
Devs and fans in total denial.
The project is a massive waste of time and money.
Expect it to launch after Half-life 3.

Never understood why some reaction channels have the person dress up like they went to work at an office. Reaction channels are one of the laziest channel types on youtube. Only ones lazier are the ones that take clips off the internet and repost it on their channel with 0 edits. And before any moron says something stupid like why are you here then I watch a ton of reaction channels. My point is they should just relax in something comfortable not something professional.

The irony here is people called him a liar but it was more what he could do and what he thought he can do.
Resources and time are still on factor in game development you can’t blame it on someone who just says yes to everything.
Just blame the people who say no like Bethesda and refunds.

Sean is a sweetheart and fuck anyone who says otherwise, he was fucked over by Sony's predatory practices and he still worked for 4 years to finish the game he promised.

You have to respect the team for not taking the money and running. They fixed their failure and redeemed themselves. Redemption arcs are satisfying

i usually agree with kit but man, dudes calling him a liar no matter what, even as Internet Historian is explaining why he probably wasnt intentionally lying. so frustrating that he just ignored the entire section of the video and kept calling him a liar and a failure.
