I was diagnosed with Rosacea this year and have been using the RX azelaic acid faithfully for six months.. that is until my insurance decided I no longer need it and won’t cover it! And your latest videos have been exactly the information I need, I’m trying to keep my skincare simple nowadays and your shopping videos are godsend, and now this update on azelaic acid is just 👏👏👏👏👏 on point Doc!
I have been using Fincea Gel (Azelaic acid) and minocycline for 9 days now. So far so good, keeps my acne at bay. Noticed my pimples and acne have improved.
I swear Dr. Dray lives inside my head. I find myself curious about an ingredient like hydroquinone, and a few days ago, azelaic acid. And the next few days she has new videos talking about the ingredients. 😂❤
Dr my wife has intense malasma, the local Dr prescribed her Azelaic acid 10% and glycolic acid 6%, he asked her to take both and mix them and apply in the night. She has been using it for more than 5 months, the Malasma patches just lightened a little but not fully gone. Recently I gave her Hydroquinone 4% and Tretinoin 0.025% she has been using it for just ten days (only night routine exept Sunday) and I can already see great results. My question is can she also apply Azelaic acid in her morning routine, and glycolic acid only once on Sunday evenings.
Thank you Dr. Dray!! I love Azelaic Acid in my routine, as I have rosacea and melasma. I appreciate all your knowledge, recommendations and your willingness to share. I also appreciate your honesty, and your humor. You make me laugh in almost every video. I am so happy I found your channel, you are a bright spot in my day and I am so grateful. Many blessings!💖💖💖
How was your rosacea in the beginning with azelaic Acid? Did it first become worse ( initial abgravation/ worsening). Would appreciate if you could share your experience. Thank you ❤
Hey I also have rosacea and melasma , what other products do you use? Have you noticed a different in your melasma? I just noticed it above my upper lip :(
Hydroquinone did nothing for my melasma sadly. But my skin loves azelaic acid. I experienced zero irritation. I will never not use azelaic acid in my skincare routine. I noticed a brightening and lightening of my hyperpigmentation using it twice a day along with Vitamin C.
May I ask how long did it take for you to see results? I've been using azelaic acid 20% (Skinoren) for around 5 months twice a day with no results and I'm starting to lose hope
I found that benzyl peroxide worked wonders for my acne but i recently developed eczema and it irritated it so i switched to azelaic acid and i found that it worked really well for both, however when i have a really bad break down i use a benzyl peroxide gel as a spot treatment so it doesn't irritate the rest of my sensitive skin
I've wondered about the benefits of azalaic acid. This is right on time because because Retinol doesn't seem to be helping the hyperpigmentation in spots that I have. Thanks for covering so much ground here and I will check out your other vid on this ingredient. Happy Tuesday 🌞🌷
Can you give us an update if you’ve tried it? Im also on tretinoin but I’m struggling with hyperpigmentation after my pimples heal so I’m wondering if i should give it a try
@@mehh1h I haven't tried it yet, because I don't have a serious problem with dark spots, but from glancing over some of the comments it seems to help a lot of people.
I recently came off of birth control for no particular reason apart from me feeling not myself whilst taking it. My skin BROKE OUT very very bad. I was on treclin gel whilst on the pill but felt I had become immune to it a little. Bought IS clinical’s very very expensive cleanser and active serum, that made my face so so sensitive and made my breakouts worse. Two weeks ago i switched back to a very basic Cetaphil cleanser, simple soothing toner and simple moisturiser with azaelic acid on top and my skin is nearly completely clear again with a few dark marks remaining. If I get a new spot I dab azaelic acid on it at night and it will be flat or a white head by the morning. I will implement treclin or a tretnoin back into my skincare once my skin calms down again but right now azaelic acid is amazing
@@laurenv2003 hey! I use the skinoren 20%. I’m from the UK and I can buy it with an online private prescription for like £15. I didn’t think it was doing anything at first because it’s very gentle but 2/3 weeks later my skin is looking much better 😊

Comparing to benzoyl peroxide (4% wash every night), BP in a few days almost entirely ceased any new acne on my face each day. I switched to AA 15% gel (strongest one), and again I started getting multiple new pimples every morning and also every night on top of that. I also now use 4% BP in the morning as a spot-treatment after extracting (I don't use my fingers, I have a whole gentle system in place to remove them), and that has been REALLY effective at removing whiteheads and making them not return straight away, because that shit is annoying. Really good. The BP also goes wherever the extraction tool even touched, regardless of whether I extracted anything or not (sometimes it's not ready). Now I'm going to use both. Double-up on the bacteria killing, and the AA for the PIE and whatnot. I just have to be mega careful with bacteria in everything I do, because any of that and my skin is done for (pillows, towels, even how I extract and which fingers have which job lol, then washing my fingers before moving on).
I’ve been using azelaic acid 20% for only 4 days now and literally all my hormonal acne is gone. I can’t believe it. I’m also using tret but it never worked for my acne, I just use it for anti-aging
For me anti-biotics should only be used if it is more likely to affect your overall health, but in most cases of skin issues like acne, you just need skin turn over to discourage bacteria to propagate in your skin. In a way, it's a natural process that would be beneficial to your skin in the long run.
I have mild Rosacea and acne. When I use Azelaic acid, my skin gets red and tingles/itches for about a minute or 2. This only happens around the nose, mouth, and btwn the brows. Then I moisturize and use tretinoin with no issues.
That was a very helpful video! I have Finacea, but was afraid to use it because I’m using Tazorac. This really helps to alleviate my concerns. Thank you, Dr. Dray!
Great information Dr. Dray! I definitely have melasma on my neck but I’m wondering if it’s possible to have it on your chest as well. Would azelaic acid be recommended for the chest if melasma is present and also potentially improve darkness from sun damage?
Doctor, what about potassium azeloyl deglycinate (PAD)? And is cream with 2% kojic dipalmitate + 5% PAD be effective for melasma or it is better just 10% azelaic acid serum?
I'm so confused - suffering from post-retinol irritation & diluted capillaries/redness (not yet diagnosed as fully fledged rosacea) should I be using azaleic acid or should I focus on restoring the skin barrier first?
Restore the skin barrier first Whatever treatment you may be on leave that if your skin barrier is compromised Our first priority should be to make our skin barrier healthy ones it’s all healthy any treatment or concerns besides this would work much better and will give faster results

Dr. Dray, what products to use in the evening routine when you need to cut back from Tazarotene. I was already doing only every other day, and now I need to cut back even more because of peeling. Wouldn’t it be better to go back to Tretinoin? My doctor left me on Tazarotene but with over the counter Adapalene in between days. I’m 50yo and suffer from blackheads. I wonder if you could do a video about what ingredients or products to use the evenings one can’t use prescription retinA. Thanks!
Dr. Dray- I just adore all of your videos. I was diagnosed with mild rosacea last year, and I found azelaic acid on my own through research. I brought it to my derm. But my insurance would not approve to cover the prescription, so she prescribed me antibiotics- but I will NOT take them for the reason you addressed in your video. I have been using an over the counter 10% Azelaic acid for a while now and LOVE IT. it’s my favorite skincare ingredient and the only thing (except sulfur- another holy grail) that really helps the redness 💗 I wish 20% azelaic acid was more accessible!!!! Amazing video, as always 💗♥️💗♥️
Dr Dray. Your skin appears to be “glowing” more than ever. Is that from your current sunscreen? If so, which sunscreen? Or of course the effects of the retin A. Or both? Looking beautiful.
I do not find the glow attractive personally but she praised the Bondi Sands SPF 50+ multiple times on this channel and claimed that she was wearing it while filming many of her videos. And in my experience it is one of the most (if not most) glowiest products ever, so if you want to shine like a diamond - go for it, it is like 15$ USD
Dr.dray, I have perioral dermatitis and currently taking doxycycline 20mg with metrogel and differin. Getting pretty bad now as its been a couple of years. Derm has recommended azelaic acid now. Can i still take the doxy? And do i stop metrogel/differin?
She has a short saying tranexamic can be used with other things and so have other derms. At least one article said to try and use no more than two or three ingredients at at time to avoid dryness.

Does anyone have information for pharmacy in other countries that have been used? Or have any tips to get it less expensive. Its not covered under my ins policy over age 36. Thank you!
Personally i used Azelaic acid 20 % cream and loved it. It does the job clearing and evening the skin tone and i hadn't any particular peeling problem with it and in combination of course with my other skin related product aka moisturizer and sunscreen 😊❤. It did sting and had a briefly burning sensation but it was tolerable just a split of a second 😊. I have been meaning to try it but some online claims about facial hair made me think otherwise
The queen of skin ..
Hello doctor...
I hope you're well.
I was diagnosed with Rosacea this year and have been using the RX azelaic acid faithfully for six months.. that is until my insurance decided I no longer need it and won’t cover it! It’s definitely made a HUGE improvement for my intense flairs, and made my redness less noticeable.. can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked “wow are you sunburned?” Or “I can see you’ve got some sun”.. meanwhile I literally am indoors 75% of my life lol.
Great video, thanks Dr Dray! You answered my questions about using it with other actives!!
I'm actually going through the worst flares of rosacea. I use Azelaic acid from Paula's Choice because I can't go to the doctor and get prescription strength. What else do you use for rosacea? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Can’t you ask your dr to do a pa?
How much would it cost where you are to pay out of pocket? I ask because it’s pretty cheap where I am. $40 CAD. A tube lasts me about 4-5 months.
@@goldenheart2667 oh I’m sorry to hear that! It’s rough I know, but the two things I’ve tried recently that really help alleviate the redness are the Cetaphil “Redness Relieving” night moisturizer and La Roche-Posay’s “Toleriane Dermallergo” ultra soothing repair moisturizer.. I use them together at night and am amazed at how good that combo is! Hope this helps🤍
@@RachelJane101 hi there, it would cost 150$ a tube which is way too much for me!
This video couldn’t come at a better time! Thank you Dr Dray 😊
Thanks for watching!
Facetheory has Lumizela which has 15% AA. I love that it is within the therapeutic index of 15-20%.
Thank you Dr. Dray. I’m allergic to hydroquinone and azelaic acid has been a great ingredient for my Melasma!
How often do you apply it for your melasma?
@@allthingsreview777 I use it every night along with my Retin-A.
Is your melasma gone completely?
Would it be ok to a video on up to date Roseaca skin care please ?Thank you for your interesting video today?
In the meantime, The Budget Dermatologist and Dr. Daniel Sugai have recent videos on this.
Your latest videos have been so on point as to what I’m looking for! My dermatologist recommended tretinion, /etc, and to follow up with azeleic acid. And your latest videos have been exactly the information I need, I’m trying to keep my skincare simple nowadays and your shopping videos are godsend, and now this update on azelaic acid is just 👏👏👏👏👏 on point Doc!
Shouldn’t we put azeleic before retinol due to ph level ?
I have been using Fincea Gel (Azelaic acid) and minocycline for 9 days now. So far so good, keeps my acne at bay. Noticed my pimples and acne have improved.
@21407l it stopped oil production and kills bacteria
I swear Dr. Dray lives inside my head. I find myself curious about an ingredient like hydroquinone, and a few days ago, azelaic acid. And the next few days she has new videos talking about the ingredients. 😂❤
Agree
On point!
I literally just bought the ordinary’s azelaic acid serum yesterday 😭
One of the best videos yet! Answered questions I didn’t even know I had! Well all vids are amazing! Plz never stop making vids!
Do you know how Azelaic Acid interacts with fermented skin care ingredients like bifida or gelactomyses?
My derm just Rxed me azelaic acid, I immediately came to you to see what I can learn before using it! Thank you 😊
How has it worked for u ?
I just noticed it above my upper lip :(
I'm gonna start azelaic acid for my adult acne, pray for me 🤲🏻
How’s it going have u seen results yet or ? I’m also going to try it on my hormonal acne as a teen 😢
Hello, do you have updates ?.. i started it myself and iam purging i guess !! What about you ?
Hi! That's great it's helping you! Do u mind sharing what Azelaic acid u use?? Thank u!

A have the 15% azelaic acid and it stinged/tingled for the first two weeks but now I seem to be used to it.
Dr.Dray please help! I use VitC and Azelaic acid in the morning which one goes first? If i can use them at the same time?
First Vit C
I have mild Rosacea and acne. When I use Azelaic acid, my skin gets red and tingles/itches for about a minute or 2. This only happens around the nose, mouth, and btwn the brows. Then I moisturize and use tretinoin with no issues.
Please make a pregnancy skin care routine for acne/youthful look
That was a very helpful video! I have Finacea, but was afraid to use it because I’m using Tazorac. This really helps to alleviate my concerns. Thank you, Dr. Dray!
Thank u ! Eager to use prescription strength for my hyperpigmentation because various over the counters have not worked over time
My dr. Gave me ARAZLO(tazarotene)..what category is it in ? Use for?
incredibly helpful and informative! thank you so much
Time to binge watch My Favoritee Dr!!!!
The Ordinary Azalic acid causes bright redness and facial swelling. Facial large bumps. Under the skin I don’t get it. I use about a pea size amount
I love that she includes drug store recommendations. If I lived in her area, I would definitely hire her as my doctor.
Prescription azelaic acid has been a game changer for my skin. Thanks for this informative and interesting video, Dr.
Loving this video. Thanks Dr Dray!❤
Is it okay to moisturize first then apply 15% azelaic acid or do you have to apply 15% azelaic acid before moisturizer?
It's fine to apply moisturizer first. Some derms recommend that especially if the azelaic acid tingles/stings a little.
Hi Dr Dray so excited to be here happy Tuesday I live for this ❤️

@@whitneybrown4067 Hi Whitney happy Tuesday 👍
I'm so confused - suffering from post-retinol irritation & diluted capillaries/redness (not yet diagnosed as fully fledged rosacea) should I be using azaleic acid or should I focus on restoring the skin barrier first?
Restore the skin barrier first
Whatever treatment you may be on leave that if your skin barrier is compromised
Our first priority should be to make our skin barrier healthy ones it’s all healthy any treatment or concerns besides this would work much better and will give faster results
What if you have tret cream and azelaic acid gel, which would be best first to put on?
Thank you for the time you take to create these wonderful videos Andrea!
Dr Dray you are the best! Can I apply moisturiser after applying Azelaic Acid? Thank you ❤

Last day my friend said that my skin texture is destroyed...So tonight I washed my face with my regular Benzoyl peroxide soap... Then put on glycerin.. on top of that I put my 10% niacinamide serum... and layered it with 0.25% Tretinoin and 20% Azelaic acid (today is my first day using this two ingredients) .. let's see what happens to my tomorrow ☠️🤞🏻
So what happened? Do you remember? 🤣
Great video! I recently started 15% azelaic acid for papulopustular rosacea and hormonal acne while trying to conceive. Can you recommend a good moisturizer to deal with the skin dryness and sensitivity while using azelaic acid that are appropriate for my skin conditions? Thanks 😊
I'm not a derm, but I used Aveeno Facecreams and La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 and it helped wonders. I do have very sensitive skin and rosacea and used it for the same reason you do.

I just tried a bit of The Inkey List Azelaic Acid 10% on my hand and it has a bit of a cooling effect. Is this to do with the Azelaic Acid or is it something else in the product? 🤔

Question: if using azelaic acid in the morning, do you still use vitamin c or is it one or the other? (With sunscreen of course!)
Dr Alexis Stephens uses them together. She applies the vit c first, then the azelaic and then her sunscreen.
Thanks!
Should I use moisturizer before or after applying my azelaic acid gel?
My dermatologist told me to apply it after!
I use the 15% gel. Can I safely wear this to the beach with sunscreen?
Can’t they do a pa?
I was wondering about azelaic acid and facial hair growth?
Is it just something circulating online or is there some truth to it?
Dr Dray. Your skin appears to be “glowing” more than ever. Is that from your current sunscreen? If so, which sunscreen? Or of course the effects of the retin A. Or both? Looking beautiful.
Was thinking the same!
Sometimes she lists her sunscreens in her weekend vlog description box.

Can you use a self tanner with azelaic acid?
No
how about azelaic acid good for hair loss?
My doctor prescribed azelaic acid for pregnant women ❤
Personally i used Azelaic acid 20 % cream and loved it. It does the job clearing and evening the skin tone and i hadn't any particular peeling problem with it and in combination of course with my other skin related product aka moisturizer and sunscreen 😊❤. It did sting and had a briefly burning sensation but it was tolerable just a split of a second 😊. One thing is that "my" Azelaic acid 20% cream is the over the counter one not the prescription Azelaic aka finacea, skinoren. But it had the strength of those bad boys 😎👍.
