    Last Resort actually has a pretty big story behind it, VICE did an interview with Jacoby about it. Initially it was written by him for his friend, who was suffering with mental issues, suicidal thoughts, and addiction. Later the song would gain even more meaning, as it helped Jacoby through some shite too, he even said it's not actually about committing suicide, but to be able to overcome those thoughts, and thoughts with addiction.
    Oh, and yea MANY people from the label didn't want to do this song because of how real it was, and Papa Roach hated their radio edit because almost every other word was blanked out. Couldn't say 'suicide', 'cut' my arm 'bleeding', 'Die Bleeding', Took my 'life' tonight, obviously couldn't say 'Fuck', funny enough though, they could say mutilation outa sight, and cut my life to pieces.

    I saw Papa Roach in concert when I was like 13-14 and Jacoby (the lead singer) was incredibly nice and taking pictures with everyone and saying how he was excited to go out and eat with his wife and how nice it was to meet everyone. I haven’t really heard of bad interactions with him, but he was so freaking down to earth that I forgot he was this big rock star.

      I saw them in concert, they were an opener for a band I wanted to see and Jacoby was so cringy. He asks this kid in the crowd if he was with his dad and the kid says yes then Jacoby starts going on about how his dad is dead and it was so awkward. He also said “fuck” like every other word like a little kid acting like they’re cool.

  • @valence_drive
    @valence_drive 3 года назад +18

    "Last Resort" is one of their simpler songs sound-wise and doesn't speak to Papa Roach's better tracks. Mind, their songs don't usually go too deep, but they have some real solid ones scattered around. "Infest" off the same album is a good example.

    • @AtomicFlounder42

      "Doesn't speak to their better tracks" *Last Resort is by far papa roaches most popular song ever, like atleast 10 times more views and listens than any other song* this is their good track

    • @valence_drive
      @valence_drive 3 года назад +1

      @@AtomicFlounder42 Popularity =/= Quality. If you need a reminder, remember that Bieber's "Yummy" was popular. lol
      I'm also not saying the song is bad, I like it. It's just that out of all of Roach's songs I've heard, Last Resort is pretty basic in comparison now.

    • @AtomicFlounder42
      @AtomicFlounder42 3 года назад +1

      @@valence_drive in a subjective field, the closest you can get to an objective answer is public opinion. If it's insanely popular, and all those people like it, its their best track. My favorite band is owl city and I dont like fireflies that much, but going off of the only data we have, views and likes, fireflies is their best/most popular song. If lots of people like it, it's good. If lots of people like it more than the rest, it's the best

    • @RitsychServare
      @RitsychServare 3 года назад +3

      @@valence_drive You have a point but that's because Papa Roach is now more of a progressive rock band that's more of a different genre in rock than the one they were initially categorized, which was Nu Metal. That era died and so in order for the band to continue making music that kept their old skool fans and introduce them to new ones, they've had to experiment. What's interesting about them is that they were still known mainly for Last Resort but because of the breakthrough with their 'Scars' song which seems like a departure of their old sound, the band is really hard to put in a certain category. Depending on which single has reached the top of the charts, so far, Last Resort and Scars have given Papa Roach that kind of sound that shows an evolution. So far from their most recent albums, they're still integrating a bit of this sound. They're still heavy and gritty but back then, their overall 'look' is more plain and simple, that some people will appreciate. Papa Roach fans in general are a mixed nuts 'cause the band has constantly evolved in their music.

    • @valence_drive
      @valence_drive 3 года назад +1

      @@RitsychServare That's a much better argument than what the other guy tried to put forward, kudos.
      I also won't argue against it in any way, but I feel like I should stress something: I feel that Last Resort is basic even in Roach's nu metal era. Again, I like it well enough, it's catchy and easy to digest (the reason why it took off, I imagine), but if it was all I heard from them, I'd go "eh." Meanwhile, I can listen to "Infest," "Dead Cell," or "Broken Home" and headbang.
      Last Resort is a good mainstream single, but my point was that Roach has a lot more under the hood even on the same album. Leaving it at that single alone is doing the band a disservice. lol
