There was also a whole debacle about some of the Avengers actors (I don’t remember who exactly) getting their pay cut for AoU and IIRC RDJ protested this, since his pay was not going to be cut, and threatened Marvel that if their pay was cut that he wouldn’t come back as Iron Man.

To that I say, yeah, for 1 part of the entire movie, in the beginning of the movie he sure as heck wasn't either of those things, and after this one part, hes basically forgotten about enterily. Also I personally wouldn't exactly call the situation going on with him humeris, more like awkward/pathetic. Seriously Tony sarcastically saying "were connected" to that one kid felt funnier than any of this guys scenes.
Also their is a difference, between relieving the tension and killing it entirely, which is exactly what the scene with fake fake mandarin does.

Arguments that Edgeworth is missing:
•Tony does geniunely value Pepper over the suits, Age of Ultron is Tony’s relapse. He’s compelled to make Ultron by the scepter and then compelled to put the suit back on by his guilt. The next time you see Tony, his relationship with pepper is strained because of it (civil war). Every time Tony puts the suit on again it’s out of fear or guilt until IW, when Tony and pepper have worked it out.
•the value of the Mark 42 is that he can summon it with his mind. He can’t do that with any of the others, JARVIS controls them. Also, yeah, prototype. He uses the tech in his Age of Ultron suit, which is waaay stronger.
•Tony’s security sucks because his head of security, Happy, is in the hospital. Also, he’s Tony Stark. Everyone knows where he lives. He just has multiple homes. He still owns Stark Tower.
•Not like the comics =\= bad.
•the action is good. the collapsing mansion, the scrap fight with the Christmas ornaments, the Barrel of monkeys and the One Arm One Leg scenes are all good.
And the small town destruction fight!

One of the downsides of this film is that were designed 35 more armors, some really cool like Starboost, Igor, Sneaky, Shades and Bones but most of them barely have half a minute of screen time.
At least Silver Centurion had a good sequence and Shotgun and Heartbreaker appeared a bit more.

To further back up Hazz’s argument, after Tony challenges the ‘Mandarin’ why exactly does he put on the prototype suit out of all the suits he has available to him? Wouldn’t it be smarter of him to put on an armor that he knew could withstand a lot of damage, like the one that he used to go up against Thor, the literal GOD OF THUNDER?

Actually, neither Killian nor Trevor Slattery (the fake Mandarin) were the real Mandarin in IM3. The Mandarin is real in the MCU, he actually exists, and he was first alluded to when an agent of his posed as an interviewer to talk to Slattery in prison, only to reveal himself and that the Mandarin was pissed over Slattery cramping his style, kidnapping him in a prison escape, probably to be punished. The real Mandarin will make an appearance in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, coming out this year, played by Tony Leung.

And about the suits, what about their design tells you what they do? Almost half of them don't seem to be different because they have anything to show what they do, hell, the toys explained them better, and that's not how stories should work. And don't get me started on how Tony didn't think about how Jarvis might target pepper if she does become infected, he deserved to have her die after that. This movie can literally disappear and besides people who enjoy it, nothing would notice, so what was the point? That is literally the biggest sin you can make when you're making a multi film story, but we're giving it a free pass here because why? What exactly does this biased person like about it? The fact that wasn't brought up is a shame. I love it's tatics and armor, as I've said, and the action, when it's happening, is fun, but what do they like about it?

Tbh iron man 3 was pretty pointless, it felt like the end of Tony's arc, but he just goes back to being a paranoid self absorbed asshole who makes suits in the next film. Like nothing substantial is carried over, he may as well have done nothing in between avengers and ultron. He has the surgery but it only barely changes his character cosmetically. Iron man 3 feels like an AU endgame for his character where he doesn't die and moves passed being iron man in the obsession sense.
The movie was basically Tony struggling with PTSD and identity crisis of being Iron Man and Tony Stark, looking at it that way it’s pretty good ngl
Iron man 3 works petty well on its own, it's emotional, has actual charecter progression within it, the actions are quite good, its one of my favourite MCU movie.
However, phoenix and OP here does have a point. While it is a good movie on its own, it serves exactly zero purpose in MCU. The writers tried to make a good plot, and forgot its implication in the MCU.
I always thought of Iron Man 3 as an AU film, where after this film he genuinely stops being Iron Man and the next movies aren't part of the same timeline
Objection! That's not the problem of iron man 3, but a problem of the next movie in the franchise. If the next movie doesn't continue the character arc of one movie, does that make the first one pointless?
It honestly felt... bland in my opinion. The movie wasn't really bad with it's sky fall scene and pier battle scene. But all in all, it just felt kinda bland.
Like, they never mentioned what happened in Ironman 3 in the rest of MCU. (I could be wrong, but I've watched the movies again to check and still haven't heard of a mention of it yet.) Tony doesn't talk about it with Cap or anyone else, well besides Bruce but his character was just more bland, and they never explained or showed how Pepper was suddenly back to normal. And worst part about it.
They made the Mandarin a joke. A complete, and utter, Joke. The dude from the comics who was one of Tony's most dangerous enemies and being the temporary staple for Ironman's poster villain, is an actor. I was really disappointed by the decision and wanted to know what kind of smoke or food they were eating.
Overall, the movie was somewhat or almost completely forgettable. But at least it set the foundations for future Ironman suits like the Mark 42.
But those are just my thoughts. The movie wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. Still, I did enjoy it.
Also, we might get the real Mandarin in the Shang-Chi movie. If they hadn't changed much like what they did right now for the politics and shin digs.

Because instead of having a civil discussion where each side makes points and counterpoints, each side resorts to petty insults when an argument that they can’t counter is brought up. Godot making jokes the whole time also helps

Flat out the reason I consider iron man 3 the worst is because of the twist. It's like taking the joker and saying "yea he's just a stuntman" the mandarin is such a good villian and to have him just be an actor was a slap to the face. In all fairness, the reason IM3 is so "Forgettable" but still important is because it finalizes Tony's arc and it justifies why he doesn't have a million armors in Endgame or Infinity War.
You don't need a million suits when the Bleeding Edge armor is constantly a part of him, deploys in seconds, is the most durable model aside from Veronica, has a self repair system and has the most powerful, advanced and versatile weapons platform also aside from Veronica.
Except he does have Legion in Age of Ultron... and drones in Far From Home..m

The purpose of Iron Man 3 was literally a character development for one film then go back to the arrogant millionaire. He literally doesn't change at all until Infinity War

A common thread among solo MCU films that aren’t origin films are that they feel very detached from the rest of the MCU. For example, in Winter Soldier, the only real important revelation is Bucky. Everything else is sort of cast aside. Like shield being collapsed. That doesn’t really have an impact on any other movie.
I think Infinity War is the best MCU movie.

Its like the first 2 Thor Movies, The Captain america films outside of Civil War. Iron Man 2, and the entirety of Iron Man 1 after Tony makes it back to america. And a few more films.

I'm actually GLAD the writers scrapped the "good Tony" development made on IM3 and he became the narcissistic genius back on Age of Ultron. I enjoy him being a controversial asset on the Avengers team.
The third movie completely failed in giving Tony's character more depth, to the point they got it right on Spider-Man Homecoming with him being a tutor and quasi father figure to Peter. Damn, even that scene in IM2 where he re-discovers Vibranium and see that recording from his father ended up being more emotional than the whole "I love Pepper and will destroy all my work to live in peace with her" plot, especially after he finally re-encounters with Howard on Endgame's alternate timeline.
Also imagine designing a ton of cool suits and not giving them a bit of screen time to at least see their design characteristics. Even IM2 got it right by showing every model of Hammer's drones, and the whole fight sequence against them and Whiplash's armor. It's still a shame that Mark XXXIX Starboost, that has heat dissipating materials for atmospheric re-entry was not used effectively against A.I.M. Extremis grunts and Killian himself.
In my opinion, the Iron Man trilogy suffers from the same problem seen on Matrix. The first one is the best plot wise, the second is the best action oriented and the "turd" one tries to be deep and falls flat.
While Thor 2 is the most forgettable movie, in my opinion Iron Man 3 was the most disappointing. The best ones are The Winter Soldier and the first Guardians of the Galaxy.

Funny enough, when me and my mom saw Iron Man 3 in theaters when I was little, we literally had to walk out of the theater because I was so scared of what was happening in it, let’s just say that was one of my more embarrassing moments.

I can barely remember iron man 3 but, I kid you not I can't even remember if I watched Thor 2 at all.
Funny thing is I remember Thor 2, but I completely mixed up Iron Man 3 with Iron Man 2. Not that I forgot Iron Man 2, I just completely forgot the plot of Iron Man 3 until they mentioned the “fire men”. I thought they were talking about the plot of Iron Man 2 until that point.

To be honest it just sounds to me like Hazz’s ability to enjoy the rest of the movie was ruined by the Mandarin reveal, which is fair but still doesn’t make it bad as a film imo

The mandarin is an actor and that makes sense in the trilogy of iron man. The orignial mandarin wasn't made for that.
I actually liked the actor twist, especially because I was so familiar with the mandarin as a character.
Many of the points adressed in this debate argue that the films that came out after this one make IM3 a bad film. I don't think you should look at the entire slew of films that came after it, and just look at the films in the franchise that came before it to determine whether the plot makes sense as the director of one film doesn't control the rest of the franchise.
The majority of the points adressed in the debate regard plotholes, but specifically plotholes that shouldn't bother someone watching something for the first time as they are the sort of plotholes that you would have to analyse the film for.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that the person who did phoenix made a few good points, but doesn't give the impression that he stands behind them. Phoenix gives the idea that he states facts to win a debate, rather than to convince the audience of his opinion
Objection! Tony did NOT turn his back on Iron Man. The Clean Slate Protocol meant a *Fresh Start*! He gets the arc reactor and shrapnel removed, but he's still Iron Man, just not all the time now, as evidenced by Age of Ultron, and literally every movie after until he dies in End Game (Don't cry foul on spoilers). Everyone misinterpreted that scene, and most likely missed his final line at the end of the movie, which was, and I quote "I AM Iron Man". No, it's not from End Game. No, it's not from Iron Man 1. He says "I am Iron Man" in his third movie. Case resolved!
Edit: Okay, and regarding why Tony gave his address away, I got a simple answer. PTSD. This actually could be the main point of Iron Man 3. Dealing with the PTSD that Tony got after the Battle of New York. Tony didn't expect to come back from space after nuking a ship that was sending aliens down to attack. Put yourself in Tony's shoes, arrogance and all. You fly a nuke into a ship, not expecting to come back. When you come back, surprisingly, you are very disturbed by what happened (to the point that everything in Iron Man 3 is technically a flashback, as it's Tony having a therapy session with Dr. Banner), and begin to respond out of the fear, the possibility that an attack might be one from space. It comes to a head when Happy is injured seriously, resulting in Tony responding to said attack by giving the address away. He was intentionally inviting his enemy to his home, believing he could take them on. That's both the arrogance and PTSD talking.

I agree with Hazz, as someone who watched Iron Man Armored Adventures as a kid and was exposed to the single best Mandarin ever, as well as just being a big fan of Iron Man all my life (almost as much as Spiderman (the Sam Raimi movies are the best Spiderman, fight me) ), Iron Man 3 felt like a slap in the face and I do not respect any of the choices it made

I mean... was Captain Marvel even actually good? I never saw it personally but I know there was a lot of controversy around it. I always just put it somewhere in “horrifically average”, not something to consider straight up bad but not in anyway as good as your average marvel movie.
I would say it's easily the worst in the MCU. Even with new phase marvel like Black Widow.
Problem with Captain Marvel is I don't care about it, or its characters, so it's just boring? Very plot convenient, and soulless.
Thor 2 is better because it has Thor and Loki. It might not be a good movie but some scenes are good and I enjoy the characters. Same story with Iron Man 3.
So, in a way, Thor 2 and Ironman 3 ARE worse than Captain Marvel from a story standpoint, but still better because I can find enjoyment in them. But Captain Marvel's just like cardboard or something. Not terrible? But so bland I'd rather watch something terrible because at least I feel something while watching it...

Basic story does not determine the quality of a movie. You can have a better story but still be significantly worse if your characters are terrible and boring to watch.

Iron man 3 is one of the best MCU films, simply because of the ending with the House part protocol. The mandarin as well as most of the movie was kinda boring, but holy shit that scene at the end made the whole thing worth it

Iron man 3 is banger honestly. Having him recreate his heroics through ingenuity and not just a fully made suit was awesome and the fact they portrayed his past and his mentality from the invasions was cool as well.
