  • Despite my pretentious, I am powerless before this excellent album of thematically consistent, catchy, sing-song rap-adjacent emo-pop. Whoo, that is a lot of hyphens.

AVAA seeing someone your age & with your background give this man this level of scrutiny & praise is so amazing.. he never wrote lyrics by the way. He would just punch record with two tracks which is why so many lines bleed into the next one the way they do.. a true genius in that regard

You should review the new album of 100 gecs! If you don't know who 100 gecs, they are the biggest band in the kind of avant-garde pop camp Charli XCX and Arca are in (Charli in fact is featured in the album), but this album is even crazier than Arca's. There's everything on it, from hardcore techno to trap, bubblegum pop, post-industrial, experimental hip hop, emocore, eurodance, nightcore, trance, emo rap, pop punk... the only cohesion it has on its sound is the hyper, colorful, experimental EDM production that this emerging camp of music is known for. Also, Fall Out Boy is featured too and it's HILARIOUS xD

Hip-hop's emo phase has been cut short due to the deaths of these big emo rappers like Juice WRLD. Obviously, shoutout to Kanye's 808s & Heartbreak and Kid Cudi's Man On The Moon for pioneering the emotional side of hip-hop.

I think you might find Future an interesting listen from the favorable criteria that you referred to. While he's more rap-focused, rather than melodic, he embodies that certain style of sound and expression. Some tracks that exemplify this are Throw Away, Codeine Crazy, and Perkys Calling.

Great review! The band 100 gecs just released a remix album called “1000 gecs and the tree of clues”. It’s a remix album for their breakthrough album released last year titled “1000 gecs”. I really think you should give them a try. One of the band members is Dylan Brady, who produced Charli XCX’s “Claws”, and “Anthems”, and the remix album features so many amazing artists! (including many producers who have also worked on Charli XCX’s music). Please check them out!!

As far as emo rap singers, even though I'm not a fan at all of the genre, the album "Eversince" by "bladee" is the best I've heard. I'd recommend people to check it out, it's different. A little cryptic and the content makes me feel uncomfortable but it's done really well. He made a surprising turn with his latest release where he all of a sudden made an album where it wasn't depressing and didn't have cursing.

0:43 is me wayyy too often these days haha. Juice WRLD is also one of the best freestylers of all time (see Tim Westworld 1 hour freestyle, TWICE).
ALSO- I would be very fascinated if you reviewed an old XXXTentacion album. Either "?" or "17". He also has posthumous albums, but I find X's earlier works have a fascinating construction. He got famous as an underground rapper in Florida doing screamo rap, lived with denzel curry at one point, got famous for chill contemplative songs, committed horrendous crimes and yet also tried to atone for them. He was a very fascinating and divisive character and I would be curious about what you think of him overall. His albums are both cohesive and thematically disjointed. If you do review X, I think you should look into his background. Anyways, as always great review.
