Strong disagree with your Redman take. He is one of the 1st rappers to really play with comedic stories and tones alongside top tier punchlines. It was like Big Daddy Kane and Biz Markie were one person. That's a huge influence. Eminem, Sean Price, Lil Wayne and Freddie Gibbs have all followed suit.

A clear-cut way to sum up yours and my frustrations with this list is - Bill Board wanted to keep the title "50 Greatest Rappers of All Time" & put in rap artists they liked while pandering to coasts and other aspects.
The best thing we can say about this list WITHOUT LUPE & MF DOOM & other Wu-Tang members is that it's a list.

I know this isn't the point of your video but thank you so much for saying contrapoints and F.D. signifier in the same sentence. I think contrapoints is the best youtuber (sorry prof) and that really made me wanna watch F.D.'s content and I can already tell I'll be watching a lot of his content now :D
You are my favorite music-related RUclipsr, nobody does music and album analysis as you do. And making low effort fun to watch videos like this one is perfectly fine, not everything needs to be perfectly planned to be very enjoyable. I know very little about rap so content like this is an easier way for me to get into it.

The problem is that their list is quite inconsistent. Like... if you want to focus on popularity/influence side, include Young Thug/Migos and others(Even Cardi B can be considered to be on the list). if you want to stick to the 'classic' side(this is way more controversial, on the definition of the word 'classic' and such), include MF DOOM and other hugely influential underground artists. This list 'tried' to satisfy both commercial/critial audience and failed miserably. But I guess thats why it is so fun. Agree on a lot of your statements(if they are on the list then they should be higher and such), but I can feel that they successfully threw a hot potato to us. and I like the idea of it. Anyway, see you on the next video!

Great to see Big Daddy Kaye in there - so underrated. And Kendrick should be number 1 (obvs). Pulitzer dont mess with this: remember they gave one to Bob Dylan and the GOAT of all jazz, Thelonious Monk. I'm just so happy Kendrick got honoured as a writer because that may be his best contribution to hip hop. More as a wordsmith and documenter (although his flow is always getting better!!!) There is an interesting video someone did about Kendricks voice (or many voices, and not all appealing). His creativity is unyielding and ever evolving. This video is superb, never stop doing them!

I don’t get why we can’t yet unequivocally say Kendrick is the goat. I think by whatever master this list is serving, he gets top marks. Career going 15 years or so with 5 top-selling, critical darling records and enough of a mythos in his music already to comment on the shortcomings of TPAB not literally saving the world, Grammys, and Alright being the anthem of the strongest black empowerment movement in years. And plus remember the beat switch in DNA?

I'm not sure why people still fuck with KRS-ONE at all. The guy has a song called "13 and Good" that's all about KRS hooking up with a 13 year old girl (as a 25 year old.) On top of that, he's vehemently defended Afrika Bambaataa as being "immune" from pedophile charges. Guy is crazy and the whole "separate art from the artist" argument (which is bullshit to begin with) doesn't work since it bleeds into his music.

    • @craigr4763

It would be helpful if you argued why it doesn't work instead of just claiming that it doesn't. You said it affects the music, but don't say how. Kendrick is the GOAT. People keep saying Kendrick's placement is premature. His first album came out in 2011. It's been 12 years since he's been a commercial artist. Biggie and Tupac's career were only 4-5 years long. He's already doubled their careers in length and accomplished too much (SuperBowl performance, 17 Grammy's, Pulitzer Prize etc.) This leaves me to believe dead rappers get graded on a curve and the living are constantly asked to do more than they've already done (despite doing more than the dead accomplished when they were alive).
