BMW. 20 years later, and still the ultimite driving machine. very cool vid
crazy to think this was 12y ago
From a Fellow E30 Driver in the States your video puts a smile on my face OO=[][]=OO
holy hell that was some good driving
thanks :)
Mayonaise What was your speed on average ?
Thanks for your detailed reply! That's more or less what I've always assumed. The 318is is very eager at low speed. It hops around low speed corners on stock suspension with virtually no understeer, and the spry urban handling just about my favorite part of the car. My early E46 plowed into right hand turns at 2nd gear speed in a very annoying fashion, but was better planted at high speed. My little E30 commands delicate input at speed but is still fairly balanced...
Beautiful driving. Live in Australia (lots of sun) with a 1990 318i and no cracks in dash. You're cute too.
Dude, you've recorded my biggest dream. Awesome car, girlfriend next to me, going stupid mph down a legendary track. I doubt it can get much better.
Also; awesome channel name.
Thanks man :)
+Trevor Phillips Also same here. Tell me about it.. lol
o0julek0o Agreed. He's one lucky guy....
Wonderful video, this video is the reason why I will buy a 318IS
schön sauber gefahren :)
immer wieder schon noch ein anderen IS zu sehen ;)
Just watched the video to see the bilstein b8 in action.. seems to be awesome ! going to buy one for me !
that was a great video. way to represent the e30 well on the track.
...just nice , Nurb+E30is = awesome trip :)
thnx for sharing that info bro.....cant wait to see your e30 m3...cheers from malaysia.. :-)
I wouldn't dare going on that track with a motorcycle. Nice and smooth driving btw.
thx
very good driving and nice car! I would like to drive my e30 325 on nurburgring too.
Dude you were the meanest guy to beat on the track that lap! (oo==[][]==oo) for life.
good video, nice smooth driving, well done.
thanks for the answer, your car is a jewel
awsome vid. I love the little 4 cyl but i have the m10 lol but you have a really good car and you seem to know how to drive it very well :-)
Great lap man
thanks :)
Nice driving man! Love the E30 318is!!! But I cant understand why everyone here is hating the crx's sound, I like it :-)
By the way, the R888 make a good job ;-)
beautiful video
B8 and Eibach is a super combo for road and track use. That isn't too soft or too hard, if you want superhard, B8 + H&R is also a good option, but on bumpy roads the car hasn't always as much grip because it can start to 'jump' over bumps....
And thanks :)
Thanks shocko69
The handling of the M3 feels pretty much the same, maybe a little bit more heavy. On the other hand, I can feel the car has alot of potential for the Nurburgring. The amount of grip is enormous, more power for the fast uphill sections...
When I compare laptimes from the 318is with the M3 the ones driven with the 318is are still faster. This has different reasons:
1. At a total of +-10 M3 laps I'm still learning the car
Nice driving, very entertaining.
That red Honda made me laugh. All that noise and no go.
Man, whatever you did to your car, I need to do to mine. 1991 318is. I love this car.
nice car!
nice track!
and a good co-driver i think!
Awesome video man!
He shit, I already liked this video..
The 318is has the twin cam four cylinder. Very different driving character than that of the small six 325i. I like them both.
Yes indeed. (Brake pads en discs from ATE original quality, no special racing material)
The only place where the brakes sometimes fade is down the village in Adenau (5:00min)
nice driving!
good driving on the best car!
Just goes to show that it's driving skill and suitable suspension that gets you around a track. You are continually catching that fast motorcycle on the twists and bends. Is it the standard M42 (140 BHP) engine? A light, twin cam, 16 valve, 4 cylinder engine with a sporty character.
Yes indeed, thanks for the comment :)
I'm in love with my M42, putting on a 4.27 torsen off Z3 in a few days. Is this car something you drive in normal traffic as well? hows the fuel economy with the 4.27 (as opposed to the 4.10 I think most of these came with)?
My car had before on the front: original shocks + original springs, on the back: used bilstein b4 shocks + original springs.
Then I replaced shocks and springs with a bilstein B8/Eibach pro kit combination. That is imo the best combo for road and track use. Eibach's are much better than the original springs but what's very important is that u change the shocks to!
If you only use your car on the track I think H&Rsprings are a bit better. Because they are harder, they wil bounce on bumpy roads..
Awesome driving
Danke!
@bladedush : Thanks blade! Dashboard was an original one. Most of the e30's I see in Belgium/Germany/UK/France/Netherlands etc all have a good dashboard. I guess it's because of the weather conditions... ;) (not to hot)
BMW e30 the coolest car ever made))!!!!
Your car is amazing! (OO=[][]=OO) E30 Love!
Yes, steering becomes indeed harder. (I kept the powersteering pump original) It really is a superb mod to do, don't hesitate, just do it. :p
ps: I think the ratio from left to right is normally 4.2 turns, with the e36 rack it is 3,5 turns. (I sold this car to buy a e30 M3 so I'm not 100% sure)
That Honda ... Heroin.
Thanks! You can check the modlist under the video. :)
@EAsportz1 Thanks man! It's a 1990 BMW e30 318is. ;)
Thanks!
Nice driving men
@famioski : I'm not sure but I guess they are all the same... Replacing of the steering rack is not plug and play! You need to make new tubes(longer) for the oil and you need to place shims to connect the steering wheel to. But it's worth it, steering feel is very, very good!
That bike just shoots off into the distance
this was awesome! good to see an E30 318iS around the ring, also that is an EXCELLENT condition dashboard! ive never seen one still in that condition is it new?
Nice car, nice driving, and nice co-driver.lol.
Check out the horrific noise that CRX was making! Nice driving.
Whoa, hottie in the passenger seat hah. Nice car and good driving.
I lol'd when he came up to the red civic. VTEC kicked in yo at 6:51
Great lap. I own a similar 318is, myself. Living state side, it's a treat to see a car similar to my own lap the Nordschleife from the driver's prospective. How much better does your M3 handle than the M42 powered car? I've always loved how light and planted my 318is feels, and often wonder if the wider track and strut mounted sway bar links offer enough of a handing upgrade to warrant the expense of m3 ownership...
Yes, in combination with a e36 steering rack: less turns then stock ;)
As much as I love the M3, and it's glorious induction noise, the 318is is more fun at reasonable speed, and obviously more reasonable to own. I still plan to own one someday, but your insight between the cars has been interesting for sure. When you say the M3 is better balanced, are you commenting on the under/oversteer balance, or just the weight of the car over all? I must admit the rear is a bit light in the wet on the 318is.
Nice driving¡¡¡¡
Thanks :)
Ps the 318 may be slow but its a hell of alot more balanced, great driving, youre taking your corners nice and fast, and putting riceboxes where they belong, the BACK
E30 OWNAGE !
Thanks! Nice driving, apparently smooth, but at the same time fast and very regular! I have a M42 E30 too, but i´n not satisfied with the brakes at all :(. Full brake sistem was removed from a 25i and a have new brake lines..but don´t have power.
B8 is a excellent choice for E30?
Cheers!
when are you going next time? I have an e36 is, not as much mods but she's fast!!
Thanks Yahtadi, yes stock 318is :)
The M3 is like a big 318is so you really need to drive it with lots of revs to go fast and be faster then other cars. Torque at low revs doens’t exist. For some people that isn’t what they want, for me that kind of driving is very rewarding…
@famioski : Nope, all of the mods are listed above.. :) And I will not do any more mods. The car has been sold and I have an e30 M3 now... Movies of that car will follow..
Also, does the M3 stop as well as the little 318is? The braking on the 2500 lbs car is pretty amazing when compared to more modern, more expensive cars. I've never driven an M3 but have my share of E30 seat time and I tend to chew through OEM brakes, and I'm not a heavy user of brakes.
Very nice video, great car & great driving ;) Just wanted to ask you, what advantage does the E36 steering rack give?
Thanks
Excellent driving sir! You're very lucky to have a girlfriend like that as well!
Strak gereden!
thanks! :)
Greetings from NOrWAY
Nice driving!!!
Seems like you got the gear-ratio's right for the track, lovely to watch!
But Do you hav 4.27 rear-gear (rear-aksle)?
Dosent e30 have 1.1 on 5gear?
Just wondering since I am planning a trip to Nurnburing
very nice!
Is there any other benefits of e36 rack except of ratio?
We all know that E30 steering is pretty light, does it fix that?
Водишь шедеврально! Nice! Отличный М42 у тебя! Сток!?
Thanks :) & good choise ;)
I love how I can't even hear your engine and you went right past the lighter civic that's 10 years newer making 10 times the noise hahaha. He sounded like he had no vtec tho. Or ability to Rev match downshift.
hahhaha lol :)
Awesome driving bro! what year is your car?
2. Ratios from differential and gear box are completely different what makes that corners I knew by heart were 4th gear corners, now can be 3th gear or 4th gear corners. (by the way: the 318is with a 4.27 differential is perfect for the Nürburgring)
3. The dogleg gear box is in my opinion alot slower then the 318is normal gearbox. You need to give the gear box a little bit more time to change from gear to gear. (bad point of the M3) The dogleg just has the ubercoolness of beeing a dogleg :)
6:25 DAT RICER !
drives like a piece of shit
Haha 😁
Any ideas? I bought one of those drop in filters to start, not really sure what else I could do to it other than exhaust.
@realgeneric: Hahaha, yes indeed :D.
Blew up a bit my lap, too fast to overtake and not letting me passing by.. :(
Yea that is what I hear. I was thinking of a M20 or if I ever need to rebuild, have my cylinders bored.
Do you know whether the B8 and Eibach combo you speak of is the same as the Bilstein Sport + Eibach Pro Kit package we can get in the U.S.? I don't think they sell them as Bilstein B8 here.
bouuuuuu honda , e30 win =) verry good video
I just bought a 1984 318i. Automatic so not much I can do with it...was just thinking of tuning up the suspension. Probably going to give to my mom and just buy a manual or something. Any thoughts?
bro...otherr than shock n coil.....have u fit your car with others performance anti roll/sway bar n strut bar??
n any model of e36 steering rack can replace stock rack??
How do the Eibachs compare to the original springs? I just found I have the same kit on my 87 325is but haven't read any good comments about them on e30s. My car originally came with M-Tech suspension and still had the original Boge shocks before I replaced them, but I'm wondering if the original M-tech springs are better than Eibach. What was on your car before?
@eternalnameless
Thanks you 2 ;) :)
do you hve the 5 lug conversion mate? Plan on prepare a e30 like yours, but I´m still what to mods do, and what not...price rules....
is that stock E30 318is bro? Why so fast?-
Great drive skill
Another point of comparing the 318is and M3:
The M3 blows away the 318is at high speed cornering and overall balance.
BUT: On hillclimb sections and small twisty roads the M3 isn’t necessarily much better. Reason for this is not the obvious reason of weight.
You need to turn not as much with an e36 steering rack.
I think a normal e30 steering rack has 4,5 rotations from left to right, a e30 steering rack with powersteering 4,2, and a e36 steering rack only 3,5.
By the way, a Z3 1.9 steering rack is even more better (has 2.7 rotations)
4. I haven't done a lap with good brakes yet (with the M3) I think I'll do some more laps this month or in August (car has now new front discs and braking oil has been flushed)
Lets say when I drove the 318is at 90%. I now can easily drive the M3 at 75% (of mine and the cars abilities)
BMW forever;)
in 8:46, why you put de 3 gear ? i think is not necessar
would you prefer the Eibach pro kit or H&R race springs?
e30 318 or e30 325i which is better? and why?
@Malaise318is
Ohh i should try and get one then! mine has cracks all over the place :(
You can still do a lot with an auto.
Also
A 5 speed swap isn't that hard on them compared to what most people think because of the "BMW" badge.
