£9.00 each , not for me but if much cheaper, maybe
Crazy price especially when rather than using a piece of wire, all they will do is pull the window open from the bottom pulling the fixing through the perspex
Another great product, wish there was something similar for the caravan door lock internal handle.
Just a thought, rather than £9 a pop you could make your own using 15mm plastic water pipe. Take a small length say 10cm, cut the pipe in half 5cm lengthways. So effectively you have a 5cm tube with a 5cm tail. Tube slides over the handle with the tail end preventing it being lifted. A well placed self tapping screw in the tail (with the thread end rounded off ) would allow it to be secured in place to stop a thief sliding it off the window latch. Also ref Dan’s comment about stopping young kids escaping in the night not many ankle snappers have a cross head screwdriver in their toy box so might slow them down a bit. Hope I’ve explained how to make it clearly enough, but when it’s a 20p solution v/s £9 I’m sure most folks will work it out !
What stops a thief from simply moving this along and off the catch with a wire from outside?
I was wondering too. Surely the demo of the ‘break in’ they would just use the same tool to slide this off the latch before lifting it?
Add a zip tie, although does add to inconvenience.
@@robforrest12739 check out UK peppers guide 2:10 there is some kind of pressed barbed feature plus editing on this video said he had the wrong device fitted clearly it was very loose it looked to fit a lot tighter in said video uk peppers guide
One thing that springs to mind if you use a tie wrap or something else to lock them in “fire escape” only saying
I wouldn’t recommend cable tying locks what if there’s a fire?????????????
We have been using these for a few years, wouldn't be without them. Just make sure they are pushed on tight, if you find them hard to take off a tent peg won't stand a chance!!
Hi Dan great product and review but I am a little concerned about the advice of using a cable tie etc to secure the lock in place I feel there is a safety issue there should anyone need to exit the van in a emergency if a window is the only option
I would be interested to know how many break ins there have been on caravan club sites in the last 10 years. I always feel very safe.
Me too...not sure if this product is designed to solve a problem that doesn't really exist.
I've got a button to press on my coachman window's on each catch.
Dan says in the video that the button catches can be accessed from outside too.
I've always thought that caravan window security was stuck in the 1950s. How do they get away with selling a £30000 caravan with such crap fittings?
It’s because manufacturers aren’t listening to buyers. One day, a manufacturer will take heed and the rest will disappear
I suppose it doesn’t matter what fittings you put in place, someone will just as easily use a Stanley knife and. Just cut the plastic windows out if they want to get in that badly, as Dan says, they’re probably more useful for keeping young kids from opening the windows, my 3 year old specialises in opening all of the latches
I know it's an old vid, but at what point are "visual deterrents" to stop them thinking about breaking in actually achieving the opposite? with so many deliberate visual things in place, are you saying to somebody looking to break in and steal valuable items that there is actually something worth protecting inside? and as you say they will then get in anyway? would the more sensible thing to do is to take out all valuables, and leave the blinds/curtains open slightly so they can see it's not worth the effort/risk?
Might be me but if someone with a tent peg couldn’t they slide a peg in and slide it off
As a newbie to this I’m finding your content a great resource but can I ask if it’s easy to lift the window handle with wire would it not be just as easy to use the same wire to hook off the lock and then open the handle as before. They don’t seem to fix on to the handles??
If I can get a wire in to lift the latch then I can get the wire in to pull that security thing off...
What a waste of money and just dangerous. They take 2 seconds longer to slide off and in the event of a fire you have a barrier stopping you from opening the window to escape in a rush. Just have very good insurance and relax.
What is the correct one then ?
Hi Andy, ill be uploading an updated video - showing the proper one and why this one was incorrect.
Thanks
@@TheTrudgians ok perfect - will watch out for it , cheers
Great idea im always worried about my front windows coming open when in transit. These will put my mind at rest. Thanks x
What about doing a door lock now ?
The door locks are absolutely useless, we got something called a Sam lock to stop our kid opening the door from the inside and I think it would stop someone opening it from the outside, but you have to be inside the caravan whilst it’s on the door handle
Great video and to be honest hadn’t thought of looking at window latch security but will certainly put it on my to do list. I might be missing the point with this product but what stops someone just sliding a bit of wire through the window seal and pushing the lock off the window handle? Unless of course as you mentioned you secure it to the handle with a tie wrap. Surprised they don’t have a simple grub screw to secure it.
You’ve said exactly what I was going to say, a grub screw of sorts would make it a bit more secure.
I was thinking the same, looks like it would take 2 seconds longer to get in
wouldn't the same tool ( wire ) used to jimmy open the latch be able to just slide this device off out the way, it didn't seem to clip in place?
The only place these would possibly be of use is when the caravan is in storage. I’d rather spend money on better door locks, ( milenco)
Great review Dan - thanks. I thought my van was secure as I upgraded the door lock, but will add these now. Will add zip ties too so the locks can't be hacked in the way someone identified in an earlier comment.
As you know I’m a new at this, thanks, love your vids keep it up 👍🏻🇬🇧
Great product. We have been thinking about buying these and now most certainly will.
Good to see you big fella...I'm watchn this and the heavy snow falling.👍go safe.
Good idea, like you say if they are desperate to get in they will smash window. But it will put off the thief who steals windows to order who would not smash them.
Thanks for the video Dan. Seems a good idea to try and stop the young ones opening the windows. So far ours haven't done that at present.
What a great piece of kit Dan definitely be getting a set of these, thanks for sharing this one.
Stay safe best wishes Jon and Karen
Hi dan another brilliant video as always and hope you and your family are staying safe and well
Thanks for the update, what a good idea, have a great Christmas and New Year to you and yours.
Hi Dan,have used for the past 4 years 😀 worth the buy.
Good to see you on again 👍
Simple , but great idea, thanks Dan
These look really good. Thanks Dan 😀
I can order them in the Netherlands as well. Yippee. Peter
Nice one Mr T cheers .kev
If someone didn't know how to break-in thanks for showing them what to do with a coat hanger
You mean, thanks for showing how ridiculously easy it is to break in on 35 year old designs?
@@TheTrudgians yes we all know how easy how and old the design is they have faults but my point is you have just shown people that didnt know how to get windows open do they show how to break in to houses or cars yes i believe this is a great device.
top info as always Dan 😀👍
Just bought our first caravan thanks to your visa! 👏👏👏
Vids even... Gotta love predictive text!
Auto-incorrect as I like to call it.
Just one thing, fire escape
Hi Dan. Do you think the Make m secure could be manipulated off the window latch in much the same way with a piece of wire?
Design thought number 2 !!! 15mm plastic water pipe say about 10 cm length with a 2cm to 3cm ‘U’ section cut out (position and length of cut out will depend on your window handle design). Slide the window handle through the cut out. This way the tube is self locking as you will have to flex it outwards to clear the handle to slide it off again.
