Burt Willemsen's Toyota Hiace transport Van has run a best time of 8.9-seconds at 154mph over the quarter mile. Power comes from a Garrett turbocharged small block Chev 383ci LT1 V8 engine equiped with a dry ice intercooler and MoTeC fuel injection. Drive is through a ProTrans Powerglide and Pro 9in rear end. The engine is mounted under the driver.
The cross bars in the exhaust are there as a safety precaution in the event that the turbine wheel (back side of the turbo) breaks and comes out of the exhaust (which I have seen happen at the drags albiet only once). The water sprays, I think you are referring too is the purging of the nitrous system.
@mydogzty I guess this is a case where the uncommon does work well due to good engineering. It's always good when you go to the drags & see something like this. Puts a smile on my face.

It seems in AU, that a lot drag racers like to use these mini passage/cargo vans. I have a 1990 Mitsubishi Cargo Van, and I was considering pulling the motor for a bigger motor then the factory 2.4L I4 motor. Could any one tell me what other motors would work that could bolt right up OR what motors could work with what changes that would have to be made. Thanks

Im looking at style and street performance "300-400hp" at the msot? I got my mind on a nice little nissan 180sx, just to look good if i got it on my P's. If I didn't and stuck with my little ford laser kc 87 (my learners car, learning manual in it) then I'd save up as much as possible and layout my options. Like a nissan silvia s15.
