Quite simply an outstanding build by an obviously good guy. One of the coolest aspects of it is its genuine practicality, e.g., pretty decent fuel economy, very low key/stealthy and clearly reliable daily driven work vehicle. With a very few tweaks to the transmission and suspension this thing could probably easily be a high ten second quarter mile van without sacrificing day to day utility. Great job showing what hot rodding is really all about!
BTW, have an LS3 w/Mast heads, cam, Kooks long tubes, etc. and an Astro van, so am now inspired to mate the two. What could be better than 500+ whp in a minivan named after George Jetson's dog?
Love the 61 Pontiac in the front yard. Back in 78-79 my cousin and I both each had a 4 door Laurentian version of that same car. 283 and cast iron Powerglide. Pulled the motors out then took both cars down to Lysterfield tip. Looking back it wasn't the smartest thing we ever did...
This bloke lives near my house saw it the other day the 1320 sticker and cooler gave it away was like yeah this thing is no joke what a tuff sleeper been years since I’ve seen another fast van 👌👌👌👌
I got 320 klm out of 45 L on average with more than half on highway with the 2 litre from new. So that's 14L per 100K! I always said they suck juice like a V8 but in fact even worse!
Heard this thing start up at Dandenong hospital a couple years ago.. i was looking around for a nice clubby or ss or somthing then i saw this pull out onto the street it looked stock as fuck till you see and hear it..
It's very strange seeing your hometown on a video and then seeing your own house this is a very interesting build I actually see the van from time to time
😂😂 it's been really good . Believe it or not even my original box was a factory stock box and it handled it for years . Think the trick with them is a big trans cooler
Vans are underrated, you can fit more in them than a ute (more length and height) and they have better security than a ute even with a canopy. They are also cheaper second hand because they don't hold value like utes do. Of course they are an absolute dog to work on with everything being under the seats and they handle like a toaster with a lift kit :P But this is indeed something I need in my life :D just without the LS, a 4 litre would fit nicely and be slightly less annoying to work on, I just can't stand multibank engines unless they are mounted up the front in a rear wheel drive the way god intended :P Vans and front wheel drive V6's make me question my life choices sometimes, you know you must have pissed the boss off when you get given all the vans that come in to service :D
@@wax333 oh yeah it would be a retrofit job for A/C, but the cabin benfits would be second to using the A/C refrigerant to cool the water, if converted to W2A intercooling. Although I wouldn't imagine it being cheap, it would also be interesting to see the difference between a big air cooler, vs w2a cooler, vs a/c refrigerant w2a cooling.
My parents had an earlier version of those I drove on my Ps. Could get very squirrelly in the went with no load. I can't imagine that much torque in one! 🙃

I haven't heard anyone describe something as 'grouse' since I was in Melbourne in 2003! That van fits the adjective perfectly.
Haha i use that word all the time, i live in QLD now but people look at me and say, you must be from Victoria 🤣🤣
@@kers225abk2 ur gonna have to turn down your 28 days cd bro, i cant hear you
Yep back in the day grouse was common as lol
That's grouse. My family is from Victoria, but I was born in QLD. We all say grouse.

That oil pump noise would do my head in

It's a good old cruiser we are out in it most week ends . 389 car .
Hello from the UK. Fantastic build, love these sort of builds.....painting the intercooler the same colour as the bumper is a stroke of genius!
Humble owner and humble van 🤙
Talked to this man at the Coles express servo down south east melbs the other day.
Seems like a good bloke
@@scanning7567 he was i knew what it was and was happy to have a quick chat about it, he was trying to sell it years ago on facey
had a L300 which i put a 3.8 and auto in drove that around for 15 years
Rumour has it there's a Barra-powered Bedford he could race...
Yessssss
Although the Bedford would probably leave this thing behind
I'll be down for that 😜
Bloody millsy😂
Millsy van is off tap.
Bedford would eat this for breakfast.

10l per 100k
That's pretty killer mileage man
Sweet little cruiser
Cheers from the states!!!
These work so hard in standard form. I believe his claim it is more economical.

on my way to starting a 11 hour shift
and just seen this pop up
thanks full BOOST
they let me go home 2 hours erely but still a long day going to catch up with some more full BOOST!!!
Great unique build, I loved the bit "Was still cheaper to do a LS drop rather than rebuild the old 2.0L"
How cool is Leigh though! Just a chilled bloke no ego whatsoever. Awesome van, great video!! “Grouse” 👌
Every time I hear the word daily driver it makes me smile that is awesome
This bloke seems genuine. Good on him.
I had one of these express vans as a work car, an old 89 and it handled better around corners than a commodore. Gravel roads it was like a rally van

Love the intercooler bumper and how nose heavy it is.
I knew I recognised that van. Iv seen it Getting around the peninsula. Had no idea it was LS turbo tho.
Absolutely awesome 👏
its going to be a hell of a shift at work but thanks full BOOST for putting a smile on my face before ive got to walk out the door
i love the front mount!
oh man, as someone driving mitsi van's for the last 2 decades, i'm jealous as. that is rad, what an absolute champ.
Seen this car in real life ahah, I even recorded it, sounded absolutely mint, awesome build👌👌🤙
It's very strange seeing your hometown on a video and then seeing your own house this is a very interesting build I actually see the van from time to time
sick little van !!
Love this thing👌Mitsubishi *Express* is finally living up to its name 😆
i throught ive seen those plates before and good old rosebud
Australia Post should get some
No point, vans usually only pick up in country areas, in the city they wouldn't get out of second gear.
@@madmick3794 nah they deliver parcels in vans here
aus post dont want to relie on a crappy ls to get them around 😆

Thanks
That really is the ultimate work horse isn't it!
The instant I head that sound of the engine slowing a bit down I instantly knew what was also installed. Superchargers have a super cool sound!
Love it! Exactly what the car scene is all about
Turbo LS with a 4L60. 😳😬 Leigh must love to gamble more than the people at Crown Casino. 🤣👍
I'm here thinking blows up his engine he's getting a colonoscopy in many ways with how the engine is placed between the seats.
@@Cerberus984 Nah, the 4L60 will have 4 neutrals before that happens. 😎👍

Got to love these wild Aussie builds
I love it it’s good to see people building different set ups
What an impressive daily drive, practical and different…..👍
4.4L leyland V8 in a Holden Shuttle was my daily for a few years... can totally relate - great fun, great for towing, sketch in the wet!
This is different and really cool. He's built himself a nice odd but fun daily driver. Thanks for the insight boys 👌
Cool sleeper, but would have to be the most unsafe car to be going fast in.😱
I agree, i love it but i wouldn't own it!.
I laughed when old mate said "you're just pushing a lunch box through the air" hahaha
That's what makes it more fun!
Yeah, they are a coffin on wheels. I've had 2 over 20 years. Just have a look at Crash Labs on youtube. Luckily I never had a serious accident in one.
I wish you asked more about the details eg. Internals, injectors, power, rear ratio, boost.
Pretty sure I had the same gear oil pump on my turbo setup I remember that pump noise vividly
Is it Engineerd/Registered with a v8?
This is relevant to my interests!!!!
He should put some graphics on the side related to a ‘fast delivery’
First person to nominate an express van for a great tow vehicle. Maximum tow capacity is 1200kg. It's cool as and looks fun.

You just don't expect that noise from that car 😎
I’ve seen this Getting around. Definitely makes you look twice 👌
These vans are dangerous in the wet even without the v8 dont even think they come with ABS.
Absolute death trap. Still love it!
Awesome 👌
My type of delivery vehicle 👍🏻
Spiritual successor to GASRITE lol
4l60e doesn’t go pnnnn for once 🤣🤣👌🏽mad build
Sweet ride 👍 Some flexible heat shielding material could help with the heat from underneath? And help keep the sound down too, or use sound deadening.
How about A/C and run a water to air intercooler interchiller, get rid of the big air to air cooler .. more stealth?
doesnt come with ac atleast ours didnt it just had the fan speed and thermostat and direction
Does have ac . Thought of water to air but air to air works fine for now
@@wax333 oh yeah it would be a retrofit job for A/C, but the cabin benfits would be second to using the A/C refrigerant to cool the water, if converted to W2A intercooling.

I've always wanted to fit Evo running gear into a 4wd L300.
What's it run in the 1/4 mile? Anyone know?
It's run 137mph
@@fullboost That's quick! What's that in time? Around an 11?
@@truevegas The Van ran 11.3 naturally aspirated. The current trap speed would put it well into the 9s 👍
That pump noise 😳 apart from that really nice build 👌
What a cool sleeper.
that's farkn nuts!
When the rims cost more than the van
I'll bring my van around for you to work on 😎👍👍👍
Love to do this to my NCV3 Sprinter. one day.. ;)
Mad conversion but old mate doesn’t seem to care much about stopping…
He needs to fix the brakes! What a death trap.
Sick man
I LOVE IT! - but i would have to wrap that fuel pump in sound insulation ;)
Paint it red, sub 60 courier stickers and it’s good to go 👌
It’s an express,express.

Need a 80e to replace the 60e

Haha, ripping the lid off a chewy botte :)
Ha ha so stupid its crazy, love it, but not sure I've got what it takes to drive it.
Love it!
Sick!
Can i buy it please?
Man that pod filter just be caking up with road dust water spray 😭
Needs to be part of swift and shift
How do u not keep stock looking wheels on it. Those rims give it away.
Nice conversion. But the thing is an absolute death trap. Probably safer riding a motorcycle than driving one of these vans.
I like it but wish it was a 1uz
Not in a van that scored no stars in the crash test, though!
Awesome car, surprised it is legal to drive in your prison island ;)
Power to weight ratio- 1000000:1! Lol
Don't let the Drive time girls get ahold of that van.
