  • In January 2023, European travel expert Rick Steves hosted a series of free, fun virtual events to inspire travelers to their next European adventure.
Slovenian tour guide Tina Hiti joins guest host Cameron Hewitt for a virtual journey to the sunny shores of the eastern Adriatic, weaving together Slovenia's charming Ljubljana, fairy-tale Lake Bled, and the rugged Julian Alps; Croatia's seaside Rovinj, waterfall-laced Plitvice Lakes, historic Split, the Dalmatian isle of Korčula, and picture-perfect Dubrovnik; and an enlightening visit to Mostar, just over the border in Bosnia-Herzegovina. We'll see how all of this comes together on our Best of the Adriatic tour.
Recorded 1/20/23. Promotions may no longer be valid. #festivalofeurope #ricksteves

Of all the places in Europe, Split is my favorite. As far as wars are concerned, for some the War Between the States hasn’t ended.

I'd like to just make a comment and an observation comparing this video and the video from six years ago presenting these two countries and that not only much of the content was the exact same but the remarks were the same also.. However, the part where Tina spoke about her time in the former Yugoslavia was refreshing and brought back memories of my own.. How Croatia and Slovenia are different than 6 years ago would have been a bit more interesting to see in my opinion...

There are also the Škocjan Caves, which are a spectacular cave system with a gushing river running through a giant cavern 90m tall with a bridge over it. Its a truly breathtaking UNESCO world heritage site, the biggest cavern with a river flowing through it in europe and one of the biggest in the world, not that the size is significant in itself, but it's truly one of the natural wonders that is a must see in Slovenia.

Thanks for the fun and informative overview. What do numbers repeat on the map of the itinerary? Instead of showing stop 1, 2, 3, 4, etc., the map shoes 1's and 2's repeating. What do the numbers stand for?

Those are the number of nights we stay in that city before moving on to the next stop. A dot without a number is a "day stop" where we visit but don't spend the night. Hope that helps!
