    WHEN GOING SHOULDER RIG: I use a 5" monitor with a friction arm to place the monitor in front of me. I don't use the monitor on the top handle if I'm going with a shoulder setup. I'll be doing a follow up at some point with how I setup an EVF so please standby.

      @@joenicklo I Love the image that comes out of the Komodo, but you have indeed invested quite a chunk of change to only get 6K out of a camera. It is a wonderful image, and resolution isn't everything. When it comes to satisfying client expectations, if you show up for some jobs with a GH6, they will indeed question your level of professionality. If you tell them you're shooting on a RED, than that does carry a certain level of name recognition and respect. Not to mention the 16 bit colour science of the RedCode Raw codec makes your car footage look really amazing. I find a lot of mirrorless cameras give a hard digital video look to them, which is not always a desirable image to have to work with. How do you like shooting on the Komodo for Fd ? do you feel like it's s the right camera for such a high paced action sport ? or do you think with the boot up time it can't bite you in the ass sometimes ? Just wondering how you like the overall work flow as I shoot a lot of face paced action style stuff and have been looking to maybe make the Komodo my main rig, just not sure yet.

    • @joenicklo
      @joenicklo  Год назад

      We filmed almost the entire season on two Komodos. Krispy shot on his Gemini one race. We did just fine. We didn’t turn the cameras off unless we needed. Having v-mounts helps, and even then…swapping batteries at the right times prevented us from missing shots. I also carried my R5 with me most times just in case I needed to get something extremely quick.

    Does the Indie 7 red control allow you to use the Komodo’s touch AF function?

    • @joenicklo
      @joenicklo  Год назад +1

      Yes! It does. I don’t recall if it did with Pages OS4, if it did…then it wasn’t obvious enough for me to see but when I updated to Pages OS 5, the AF Touch Control was there.
      I’ve considered doing a video on it because it’s honestly not bad at all. I even used it to film some of the B-Roll shots in my latest video.

    • @joenicklo
      @joenicklo  Год назад +1

      I've answered this a few times in the comments. When I go shoulder rig, I use a friction arm with a 5" monitor. I have an EVF from Portkeys that I use from time to time however, I'm waiting on them to send me the new eyecup. I don't like the standard eyecup they put on it. Once I get it, I'll be doing another video explaining the EVF setup.

    I sincerely hope you're being sponsored by Bright Tangerine. Over $200 for a top handle?? Just no. It's a slick build, but no follow focus system?? No transmission system? This almost feels like a 'how much can I spend on a rig in just accessory parts' video. $1250 for the Kasbah shoulder pad and handles??! What?! I thought Wooden Camera stuff was pricey.
    I guess if you're working every single day, this could make sense, but there's so many other options at 1/4 the price. But I'm left wondering how useful it is to have the monitor on top of the handle, above and behind your head when the rig is sitting on your shoulder. The rig looks balanced and comfortable, but ultimately unusable in its current configuration.
