  • Azelaic acid is the Swiss Army Knife of #skincare, good at lots of things not excellent at one
    .
    .
Skin Science: Found in rye, barley & wheat, for the greenies it is pseudonatural. It has anti-inflammatory as well as pigmentation inhibiting properties. Best formulated in a gel with a concentration between 5 to 20%. This compound is safe in pregnancy & lactation.
    .
    .
Acne medication: Use in the am or pm, up to twice a day. Ideal for hormonal acne, pregnancy associated acne. Best for papular pustular acne, not blackheads.
    .
    .
Rosacea: works as an anti-inflammatory, can be used twice a day. Much like acne, best for lumps & bumps, does not work for vessels
    .
    .
Anti-pigment role: Melasma & post inflammation. Up to twice a day. Best paired with ascorbic acid, #niacinamide, #retinol - retinoic acid
    .

I've gone down a rabbit hole of skincare videos these past few days and your videos are by far the best! I've always had clear/normal skin and just accepted the pigmentation on my face as something that to live with and cover up with makeup even though I hate it... But after seeing your videos I think I'll try making a few changes to my skincare routine and look into a dermatologist! I never realised it was something I might be able to fix, thank you! You've given me a lot of hope for my skin now

4 weeks on Azelaic Acid and the difference that it has made to my skin is remarkable, I have Acne rosacea, but not just the average type, the acne covered my entire face and my face was fire engine red all the time I had been on isotretinoin 10mg for 4 years and I got tired of the side effects I was experiencing so I stopped using it. In my quest to find something to help I came across you. I am very grateful that you have taken the time to help educate people on skin care.

Awesome to see you again-and, great clip. So odd we can't get this over the counter in the States. I managed to make a purchase online-waiting to get my order. I have very sensitive skin yet can use Tretinoin Cream 0.025% (took over a year for my skin to adjust). I did purchase "Brightly" by Dr. Sam yet sadly my skin freaked out from it. The culprit: Vitamin C. Brightly has Vit. C in it. My skin literally breaks out with a horrible rash from Vitamin C. I am hopeful that Azelaic Acid WITHOUT Vit. C will help reduce the slight redness that I have (natural red-head).
    Excited to see results!

Hi I use azelaic acid on alternate nights to tretinoin on my rosacea and eczema prone skin. That combination has made a massive difference to it. I use it with niacinamide and have noticed really good redness reduction since incorporating it. I don't use the AA and tret in the same routine due to dryness and both increase cell turnover. My menopausal, very dry and sensitive skin tolerates these ingredients used alternately far better than together. I'm sure oilier and/or more robust skin will be able to use them together. Here in the UK anything over 10% is on prescription. Texture can be an issue with AA and there is a derivative that is much smoother and nicer to use, but works just as well for me (both garden of wisdom and geek and gorgeous use the derivative in a very pleasant serum texture).
Tretinoin has given me back the cushion to my skin, but AA has helped with inflammation/redness. I still have some persistant/chronic redness with visible capillaries, but the overall diffuse redness is so much better. I highly recommend it. Best wishes.

Not sure what’s so backwards with me but azelaic acid irritated my skin way more than retin-a. Though to be fair I started at a very low OTC dose of retinol and then got .025% from my doctor and built up how often I used it very slowly, whereas I was prescribed 15% azelaic acid and instructed to use it everyday immediately. After a few days of daily use my skin was burning for 10 minutes after I put it on and stung from any other product, and my skin was peeling like crazy. I went to using it every other day and that seems to have helped but I’m still flaking a bit after a couple of weeks. I always astound doctors with how severely sensitive I am to basically every medication out there so I guess just be careful if you are extremely sensitive, even with this stuff!

I get papule acne! The pimples come up then they don't pop & go away, then end up scaring. Would love to know how to get rid of the scars at home.

You must have read my mind! I’ve been trying to work out where to put my 20% azelaic acid, into my routine, as I use Vit C and tretinoin. Was looking for a clear instruction. Thanks for that.

Me too. I use tretinoin and azelaic acid at night, vit c in the morning. Not sure that’s the right way though.
