the scene when ali was looking for sangwoo, he said "hyung"...netflix apparently didn't subtitled and emphasized the meaning of "hyung"...they just translated sangwoo...in korea "hyung" means "older brother"...and u don't get to casually just call someone older your hyung..u have to somewhat earn it, or be close to that older someone to be able to call a person hyung...sometimes they grant their juniors to let them use"hyung" or it happens naturally as u mutually feel closer....so imagine how hurtful it was to hear ali walk around like a little lost boy looking naively for sangwoo calling him "hyung", after realizing that he was betrayed...it felt more painful cause it felt like your own blood brother abondoned u....It BURNS
I’m lucky one of the classes I’m taking in college right now is Korean, so I already knew the meaning behind it before watching the episode. It made it that much more painful.

@@kingchongy1712 Ali's boss wasn't paying him even though he had the money. He was taking advantage of presumably illegal immigrants. I wouldn't say it is a similar situation from Sangwoo/Ali's.
Fun fact: when ji yeong talked about “mojito in the maldives” is a reference to a famous korean meme from another movie with Lee byung hyun (the front man in squid game), where he accidentally says “lets drink maldives in mojito”.

This episode made me broken. The director was such a good writer and i mean, i was expecting that at some point, they will make a game and then choose a partner but the characters that we love in this series
this episode was so sad. I broke down when jiyeong dropped the ball on purpose cos I realized why, I felt so bad for her. Ali’s death was devastating but we can’t blame sangwoo. What he did was so shitty but it is understandable and justifiable, the man was trying win like everyone else and survive in a survival game. This show definitely deserves the recognition it’s getting!

Everyone had this all wrong. There is nothing sad about Ali death. He shouldn't have gone back for the 2nd time. He had the money to fly home with his family or he could face justice for robbing his company's money.
Unlike others who owed insane amount of money to banks or loan sharks, Ali owed pittance if any.
Ali is naive to trust SW. You are reading it all wrongly. Let me give the scenario where Ali didn't go along with SW idea, what do you think will happen?
Why do you think SW suddenly acted up when he had one marble left, by accusing Ali of cheating? That was because it was Ali's turn to wager and SW would die if he loses that round (which he would since odd was inevitable).
If Ali didn't go with SW plan, SW would probably not want to play till the last minute and just like the old man, play a wager of everything I have for everything you have.
SW was clever because he offered his last marble for Ali safe-keeping when they return from their survey. In Ali's mind, the last marble in his hand meant he was safe and home regardless whether SW proposal was true or not.
Ali died not because he was naive, he died because he was careless and got distracted by the automatic gun shots.
Ji yeong case was sad. Why do people think that it is a good reason to die for others because others have someone needing them. Even if that is so, are you not scared of facing death. By dropping the marble, it meant that you will die within the next min or so.

if it was justifiable, he should've let ali win in the first place. because ali was truly the winner unntil sang woo lost his mind and tried to threaten him first. it was shitty through and through and i could never do that to someone who was playing the game fairly

Guys remember just cause they say it’s “fictional” doesn’t mean this can’t happen cause, this mostly shows how humans can be and human nature there are actually illegal games like these irl which has happened many times.

I just think what makes this episode so heartbreaking for me how it was full of lies and betrayal but then there's saebyeok and ji yeong which you can tell that they really conected with each other and ji yeong kept her promise that she made when they met that she was going to do anything for her to win to the point she even sacrificed herself for her ☹
No matter how many times i see this episode it doesn’t get any easier I still end up crying each time lol.

I cried a lot with Ji yeong's death and I thought her final words were so sad. She said "Thank you for playing together with me". You can tell by her sad story that she didn't have many happy moments and probably not many people did play with her.
But for some reason the sub says "I'm honored that we were partners" lol. It ruined the scene a little bit for me.

One thing: You are using the wrong subtitles, they are "English (CC)" subtitles, CC means Closed Captioning. I can see this because the noises are also described. This means, they are the subtitles for the hearing impaired. If you want to watch it with subtitles, i would always select "English" without the "(CC)". Because the "(CC)" will be a transcript of the English dubbed audio track, which will be less accurate. Easy to spot: When you see noises described in the subtitles, they're the wrong ones 😉

Sang-Woo did play the game fairly. The aim of the game was play any game to take all 20 marbles from your opponent. He did just that. He played his game of wit, and Ali lost by a huge margin. It's survival of the fittest, Ali lacks the basics of survival instincts that were key to our survival as species. It's a critical deficiency. It's sad, but that's nature - and nature is brutal
I sometimes wonder if "survival of the fittest" is going to lead to the extinction of our species.
Humans are social animals. We either survive together or perish together. There is no "fiittest". We are not tigers.
Actually Sang-Woo is not that smart, when he said he would make both survive I got an idea on how to really make is possible, but instead he tricked ali, but no on the show though about my idea.
The rule states you take the 10 marbles of your opponent to win, for both to survive, they only have to switch the marbles. then both hold the 10 marbles of the opponent.
