Thanks man :D I thought it was pretty fun to do a very mini let's play on here, just always figured no one would wanna watch it unless it was done with a capture device of some sort
Awesome review and so jealous of your collection. But something you might wanna update is the firmware issues with the eeprom on the tvs as very high majority are defective due to the malfunctioning eeproms. I know mine personally lasted 2 days untill finally got around to replacing my u4 eeprom which was such a pain being i really really really hate surface mounting T_T Luckily can pick the chips up for under 12$ :3 i personally am in love with the display few cons of pc gaming as chem pointed out tho its my main for console gaming hands now :D
Oh I spent probably days getting these settings so your welcome. Their is what you call Temporal dithering in the black levels with these tv I have pretty much got rid of it all, and the green effect as well. Also with a really nice color level, and white saturation level. Note: YOU MUST HAVE AN AMD CARD TO DO THIS. Now with that stated lets start. Set pixel format to limited rgb also Amd Brightness= -25 Contrast= 73 Sony 3d display Brightness= 87 Contrast= 100 Color= 44
I've got one of these. I love it. The size makes it perfect for a bedroom tv. and the price for it at this point is less than 200 bucks at gamestop (assuming you can still find it). One thing you didn't mention is that it has a small subwoofer built in as well. I actually don't have a problem with the glossy screen getting dusty.
4 years ago later you shall know why but prolly wont care xD It was Marketing Speech by sony to make it seem like it could, when in reality it only goes to 60hz. the 240hz is not a real output, it is a interpolation the television does with the image. i just got my old tv back finally so im looking up info and found this lol. wish AOS would upload more, i miss him a bit.
I love your videos dude! their awesome and I love how you go over topics in the gaming (and beyond) Community and express your views and not be pulled back by the censores. You Rock!
YOU ROCK ALPHA BEEN WATCHING YOUR CHANNEL FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS NOW. LOVE HOW YOU SPEAK YOUR MIND AND LET US KNOW WHATS WHAT IN THE GAMING WORLD, BIG DEVIL HORNS FROM ME ALL THE WAY FROM NEW ZEALAND
I have one and it still works fine over a year later.I deliberately stress tested it to see if I would see the faults people reported since I had a year warranty.I kept it on all day and played videos and games for long periods and never had any problems. I never experienced the screen going black, flickering or blinking red light. I think the earlier batch was faulty but the batch that my display was from was fine. I bought mine in the UK. You should always stress test while you have warranty
Yeah I had my desktop plugged in over the weekend fiddling with it to see everything in action since my girlfriend was occupying the main TV playing Yakuza. Works pretty damn well under both circumstances
Even though I don't mind 3d, I do find simulview to be a nifty idea that should be expanded. Having your own screen is something people will always aim for. Of course, for fighting games, you got to share, but shooters, racers, and what-not, you just have to have your own visible screen.
Depends on what you can get locally within your area. I always compare features, price, stats etc before ever making a final decision. With it being the holiday season there is a lot of places online and in store doing a ton of sales now up til even after the holidays so I would wait and see.
Mine has lasted over a year and still works very well. When you buy one you should stress test it heavily for the first few days then you would know if you have a faulty one before your warranty runs out and you should be able to get back your money if it shows signs of being faulty in the first few days of having it.
There are so many oldschool gaming references it's insane. I seriously enjoyed the holy hell out of this though, especially growing up with the franchise on NES
That was a seriously awesome video dude, I may even consider getting one of these to replace the tiny CRT I have in my livingroom....at the right price of course :)
Not to sure how so many of them bypass the feature but it is a shame. Hopefully sony decides to just include this feature in all their TV's and displays to leverage bigger publishers and devs to take notice of it
Yeah, I saw these in Best Buy Canada on the Black Friday weekend for $149 Canadian. I couldn't believe how cheap they were I figured that was a great deal for someone looking for a spare gaming TV or a dedicated gaming TV for the kids. The fact it's 3D is a bonus and that dual play feature or whatever it's called looks neat. Actually that was a really good idea whoever came up with that one.
Ordered mine black Friday as well, looking forward to hooking up. Even with the crap built in audio still a rock bottom price for a brand new multi input 3D HD display plus still the option to direct sound to external speakers!
got it over boxing day and it's still running great. I took extra precautions and turned down the backlight to 2-4 as I've read many black screen issues come from backlighting being above 5.
I had a year warranty with mine and the option to get my money back if it was faulty. I have had mine for over a year, kept it on for long periods on a daily basis, I stress tested it heavily over the first week and I never experienced any problems with mine. It still looks brand new and runs well. I think there were problems with the earlier batches but they seem to have worked the problems out. I bought mine in the UK. My advice to anyone buying it would be to stress test it for a few weeks.
Lol! Just watched you switch the menu's! The Sonic Ring is actually my text tone so I hear it all the time! XD It probably wouldn't phase me on the menu, haha.
Yeah whenever you're scrolling through those icons to do anything it just grates on your nerves almost immediately. Wish there was a way to turn em off since the theme itself is pretty damn cool looking
Awesome review! and this does look like a very good display, however it's weird they didn't make it in larger sizes. 24' is the smallest a TV can be really. To actually see 1080p on such a size you'd have to be like 3 feet away.
Also to get rid of ghosting due to software issues you have to switch between 3d settings. Side to side, top bottom, and then finally back to auto this will fix most of it.
I saw that actually, was really hoping for it to be US bound at some point. It honestly reminded me of the Divers 2000 Dreamcast. That thing blew my mind when U first saw it
Yeah! Maybe this can be the least useful peripheral for a console. But it's all PS branded and quite uncommon so it will be an high collectable item in the future. Great purchase, AOS! And a very funny and informative review!
Remember the days back when you could buy electronics, and for the most part not have to worry about a ton of issues... I have an old TV that's like 12 years old, i've hit the thing with a golf club by accident and all it did was change color for 30 minutes on the impact spot... Ahhh, extremely reliable electronics... Those were the days...
Hey man, just curious if you are still using yours. Mine are still going strong. I bought 2 of them cheap back in 2011. Also, in case you, or anyone cares, it works perfectly with HD Retrovision's YUV Component cables so you can use those to tap into the original console's RGB signal and get amazing looking 240p (240x720) video. Many HDTV's either can't read 240p signals, or has interlacing issues with them. Although Samsung is one of the better displays in terms of handling a 240p signal. I have tried SNES, Genesis, and Neo-Geo on the PS Display using those cables and love how they all look and with very low latency as well. Still loving this display! :)
Just thought I'd point this out. I noticed the Double Dragon Neon artwork, it's made by an artist on deviantArt known as GENZOman, nice to see his art used in a game.
I watched this video on the same TV that I just picked up on Black Friday for $99. It is a nice TV, especially for the price. I'm not sure I like the 3D a whole lot, but it's a nice computer monitor/backup TV. I was really impressed with Motorstorm Apocalypse. That game is great. If you want to feel like John Cusack from 2012 (driving a limo through a building as it collapses), then play Motorstorm Apocalypse.
I'm guessing the simul-view works by displaying one frame from the first person and then another from the second and switching between the two rapidly while the LCD shutters sync to the corresponding player's screen so that you only see the correct one. Technically, any LCD shutter glasses could do this but I guess Sony is the only one to implement it.
It happens quite often on newer tvs. I think the thought behind it is that they are generally really crappy speakers, so people opt to buy their own sound system.
alpha got this on black friday. can you imagine alpha goin total psycho on some shopper who would dare spray mace on him attempting to get whatever merch from him during black friday?
hey alpha! did u hear Hideo Kojima(MGS) was asked to make the new Silent hill game? Whats your thoughts on this? keep in mind that quite a few of the original Team silent members allready work for mr Kojima. sweet TV by the way.
Yeah the price has dropped quite a bit, when I was out at Best Buy and saw the price for it and just a big pile of em there I said fuck it and snagged one up lol
Hey alpha how much was it? and also use a used dryer sheet to dust and wipe off the screen, One because it is static free and two because it will not scratch the screen.
Dpending on what you were looking for, all 3 companies gave their users a awesome experience. Hardware wise, SONY and Microsoft stuttered in terms of solid hardware. The first iterations of the PS3 had the yellow ring of death while the XBOX360 counterpart had issues with the red ring of death. Later both rectified the issue with newer versions of their consoles.
a TV considering that game is $40, the glasses are $30, and the HDMI cord is about $25 maybe more, so a $100 TV that has a great resolution is definitely a must buy, the audio quality is not as bad as everyone makes out to believe, (definitely better than my old samsung TV) and if you would like you could buy the sony stereo headset which im currently using for PC and PS3 for superb audio quality if its really that much of a problem when it comes to audio.
Im actually using this tv right now as my Computer Display for my Alienware X51, ive had it for like 6 months now and its really awesome :D id rate it a 9/10 only because it doesn't really have many video input ports, just 2 hdmi and 1 component, I have to switch around between my pc, ps3 and TV set. The colors are very vibrant, there is no remote control for volume, the 3D is good but it goes down a resolution which it doesn't bother me that much, for the price your practically paying $100 for
I had a Pantera theme that would play notes from Walk every time you scrolled, entered, or exited a menu. I thought it was epic at first, but it got old real quick.
Also, from what you said, I guess there's also slight ghosting but I think all 3D displays have that problem unless you have a REALLY expensive model. I find playing in a dark room helps mitigate it though. One other thing I wonder is whether it drops to 720p when switching to 3D mode or just merges two side by side images (like my Samsung 27" Samsung SyncMaster T27A950 does). Unfortunately, HDMI cables don't have enough bandwidth for 1080p frames at 120hz unlike DVI ones.
Sorry if this has been answered before, since a lot of feedback and is a older video. Can I hook my Sega Dreamcast up to this using my original cables it came with and look decent? also given it is 3D does it on the off chance not being a CRT screen support the guns, etc? AlphaOmegaSin
I have the same question, i have this display and my dreamcast has the origional AV cable, when i plugged them in the component ports I get sound and black and white picture. What am I doing wrong ?
You guys need a converter..It’ll upconvert the RCA (Yellow) Video Cable into HDMI converter and will look pretty crappy if you leave the Aspect Ratio on 16:9...So Switch it to 4:3 which is the CRT ratio....Next time just Google your question and you’ll get an answer instantly
I've always wondered if 3D tvs would be bad for your eyes. It seems like watching things in 3D for long periods of time and frequently might cause damage.
Thanks man :D
I thought it was pretty fun to do a very mini let's play on here, just always figured no one would wanna watch it unless it was done with a capture device of some sort
Miss these types of reviews. The humor and edginess. Glorious.
Awesome review and so jealous of your collection. ABORTION PUNCH!!!!!! I laughed so hard a cried
LOL Nice old man impression XD
That cracked me up.
Ps3 , ps4 can't even reach 60 fps so,,,,, Why 240Hz ??
4 years ago later you shall know why but prolly wont care xD
It was Marketing Speech by sony to make it seem like it could, when in reality it only goes to 60hz. the 240hz is not a real output, it is a interpolation the television does with the image.
i just got my old tv back finally so im looking up info and found this lol.
wish AOS would upload more, i miss him a bit.
On my PS3, i have 60 FPS
XD
For the PS5
This is one of my fav Alpha vids!
Purchased mine on black friday for $99 aswell. The best bedroom/gaming/ monitor display I have ever had. Very happy with the purchase, it was a steal!
Not married, wedding bands aren't worn on the middle finger XD What you see is an irish claddagh ring
I have one and it still works fine over a year later.I deliberately stress tested it to see if I would see the faults people reported since I had a year warranty.I kept it on all day and played videos and games for long periods and never had any problems. I've had and loved this display for 4 months, until today, when I got the red blinking lights.... Lovely.
Depends on what you can get locally within your area. I always compare features, price, stats etc before ever making a final decision. With it being the holiday season there is a lot of places online and in store doing a ton of sales now up til even after the holidays so I would wait and see.
Is the AUX jack for a microphone or headphones? You said headphones, but you called it an input jack.
lol I'm like a fuckin vampire in my house, sunlight = melting my skin
Mine has lasted over a year and still works very well. I absolutely agree, that's why I got Double Dragon Neon and own all the Yakuza games. Need to eventually nab up Code of Princess as well on the 3DS
Hell Yeah! They came through a few months ago and I had to snag one of them up for me and my brother
Yeah, I saw these in Best Buy Canada on the Black Friday weekend for $149 Canadian. Indeed I am, after seeing it at E3 I was pretty sold on it

I liked a lot that you can switch between P1 and P2, that's a really cool thing.
Which beat em up do you think is king of the hill? Double Dragon Neon looks awesome as hell, wish it would be on the 3DS or Wii U as well

Got one of this yesterday for $100 bucks... worth every dollar! Excellent display!
Lol! Just watched you switch the menu's! The Sonic Ring is actually my text tone so I hear it all the time! XD It probably wouldn't phase me on the menu, haha.

just want two say love your vids keep it up mate
I was on the fence about getting one, watched your vid, laughed my ass off, and went and picked mine up hahaha Love your vids man!!!! \m/

Its a monitor not a tv
Great review, I actually picked this up on black Friday as well and for 99 bucks it was well worth it!
Also to get rid of ghosting due to software issues you have to switch between 3d settings. Side to side, top bottom, and then finally back to auto this will fix most of it.
thanks for the review just got mine today used for 85$ at my local fleamarket
you should do more lets plays even if its like this o.o your freakin hilarious dude xD
Lovin' the Sonic background. But yea, the TV looks super nice. Not sure if I'd ever get one, but man the picture looks great.
I love the rant against glossy finishes.
i like your use of profanity, it enhances your on-screen appearance.
I'm saving up for 1 of these for my future pc and maybe have my ps4 plugged up to it.
Alphaomegasin, you should do let's plays of games, you're very funny man !!!
Remember the days back when you could buy electronics, and for the most part not have to worry about a ton of issues... If you played on PC you can get all theme games to run in 3D just fine
Hey man, just curious if you are still using yours.

I'd like to play a PS1 on these
Harlem globtrotters?
Wow what a racist comment, might as well of sai africa.
Racist douchebag.
i got this for $100 haha
awesome review man, love your videos, keep doing more X)
Just thought I'd point this out. I noticed the Double Dragon Neon artwork, it's made by an artist on deviantArt known as GENZOman, nice to see his art used in a game.
lol It's gonna be like that Edgar Allen Poe story about the heart beneath the floor, except it's Sonic sounds XD
Alpha, after watching this, i think it wood be really kickass if you did a let's play
11 years later you still have or use this? Looking to buy a ps3 backwards console and want this as my main console gaming monitor
Omg u need to do a lets play because that was fucking awesome!! Great review too!
I heard that work without problems and they are big enough to use your personal glasses and the 3d on it.
The Split-screen (Simul-view) Is amazing. there is no other TV in production That is enough to buy this.
Are you able to just import an English copy from somewhere else? Might be a bit of a pain in the ass to have to go about importing but beats waiting
I watched this video on the same TV that I just picked up on Black Friday for $99. It is a nice TV, especially for the price. i love my 3d tv. some people don't like the effect but i love it. does it 'add' anything?
not really, but its still pretty cool
Looks sweet ! Double dragon neon looks epic ! I need to download that shiz !
It happens quite often on newer tvs. I think the thought behind it is that they are generally really crappy speakers, so people opt to buy their own sound system.

just want to say your vids r awesome im defiantly getting one of these
Yeah the price has dropped quite a bit, when I was out at Best Buy and saw the price for it and just a big pile of em there I said fuck it and snagged one up lol
That co op feature is awesome as fuck! How did developers not take advantage of this!
If you like the artist from this game I'm 90% sure it's Genzoman who's on Deviantart, I know I've seen these images on his DA
my friend bought this tv on black friday. itz a really good product and looks really good. itz a great value for the price
metal concert in a Campbells soup can XD fucking laughed so goddamn hard
Hey alpha how much was it? and also use a used dryer sheet to dust and wipe off the screen, One because it is static free and two because it will not scratch the screen.
The phrase 'Heavy Metal concert inside a Campbell Soup can' was coined today.
It's a 3D display, not an actual TV. However, if you have satellite, you can use HDMI with that (Directv and Dish both support it).
They would need XXL Periscope style glasses lol
Dpending on what you were looking for, all 3 companies gave their users a awesome experience. Hardware wise, SONY and Microsoft stuttered in terms of solid hardware. The first iterations of the PS3 had the yellow ring of death while the XBOX360 counterpart had issues with the red ring of death. Later both rectified the issue with newer versions of their consoles.
Dude I used to work at a Sunoco gas station quite awhile back and it did the same thing it also had this odd "uh oh" sound to it as well
I have this as a monitor to play on my PC and is beautiful
Oh My GAWD! AlphaOmegaSin just flipped me off... my life is complete
Are the internal batteries in the glasses easily replaced when they eventually go bad?
planing to get it but the reflective issue i keep seeing on reviews.. hmmm dont think i'll be getting it
a TV considering that game is $40, the glasses are $30, and the HDMI cord is about $25 maybe more, so a $100 TV that has a great resolution is definitely a must buy, the audio quality is not as bad as everyone makes out to believe, (definitely better than my old samsung TV) and if you would like you could buy the sony stereo headset which im currently using for PC and PS3 for superb audio quality if its really that much of a problem when it comes to audio.
are the 3d glasses spectacle friendly? i.e. can i wear my prescribed glasses wearing the 3d glasses?
Im actually using this tv right now as my Computer Display for my Alienware X51, ive had it for like 6 months now and its really awesome :D id rate it a 9/10 only because it doesn't really have many video input ports, just 2 hdmi and 1 component, I have to switch around between my pc, ps3 and TV set. The colors are very vibrant, there is no remote control for volume, the 3D is good but it goes down a resolution which it doesn't bother me that much, for the price your practically paying $100 for
For some reason when you connected the base, it reminded me of inserting a cartridge into an Atari 5200.
Poison is hiding a ding-dong though XD
I had a Pantera theme that would play notes from Walk every time you scrolled, entered, or exited a menu. I thought it was epic at first, but it got old real quick.
I want to know if you had problems with this minitor so far?
Also, from what you said, I guess there's also slight ghosting but I think all 3D displays have that problem unless you have a REALLY expensive model. I find playing in a dark room helps mitigate it though. One other thing I wonder is whether it drops to 720p when switching to 3D mode or just merges two side by side images (like my Samsung 27" Samsung SyncMaster T27A950 does). Unfortunately, HDMI cables don't have enough bandwidth for 1080p frames at 120hz unlike DVI ones.
I would love to see an AlphaOmegaSin lets play of Resident Evil 4, it would probly be the only lets play I fully watch.
As long as you have component cables, you can play them on this display.
since its just 23inchs when your wearing the 3D Glasses does the screen look bigger or?
sorry first time i decide to try the 3D
Sorry if this has been answered before, since a lot of feedback and is a older video. Can I hook my Sega Dreamcast up to this using my original cables it came with and look decent? also given it is 3D does it on the off chance not being a CRT screen support the guns, etc?
AlphaOmegaSin
Dave Mckee Do you have a component output for the Dreamcast? I don't think such a thing was ever released.
If you do, then I don't see why not.
