    Thank you for the video. I actually own both. Bought the Sigma at a great price used and then figured I’d try the Viltrox since on full frame I shoot both 85mm and 135mm so I own both focal lengths as well. Used them on my A6700. Now, if you can get one compare the Sigma 23/1.4 DC DN Contemporary and the soon to be released Viltrox 27/1.2 which are two I’m keenly interested in as well. Wonder the ratings will be the same. Take care.

    While I would have thought I really didn't have an interest in either of these lenses I will say seeing the image comparisons is really cool. If that Viltrox was the price of the Sigma I would definitely consider getting one even if I don't really want that tight of a prime. For what I tend to shoot I just don't see myself to using that tight of primes but man some of those pics off the Viltrox were sweet especially with that background compression.

  • @DaveSoltura

    @markluinenburg5004 7 месяцев назад

    Great video, Curtis, thank you! I am fortunate enough to own both lenses, they're both phenominal. For me, it comes down to the background compression to make the best composition for any given shot. Just as an example - at 7:21 on your video, I prefer the Sigma just because it seems to tie the subject to the background better while still remaining beautiful, whereas the Viltrox seems to isolate the subject too much here for what I perceive as the intented message. This is just one example - the outcome could be opposite in another situation. As for weight between the two - when I'm in the thick of shooting moving subjects, I don't notice at all if a lens is heavy or light, my concentration is elsewhere. Will definitely keep both, can't pick a favorite.

    The issue I had with sigma was distortion. It distorts like crazy and it has thar pin cushion distortion pattern.. Therefore once distortion is removed, bokeh is alaonkind ofndistorted.. also the aperture mechanism is kind of slow with sone Fuji bodies- so while focusing there is a constant aperture chaterring. Otherwise it is a nice lens.. sharp corner to corner. Bokeh is kind of neutral and contrast kind of high for portraits.. Viltrox on the other hand is large but the rendering is amazing.. So I tgink that for street photography, 56 is better. For portraits, Viltrox all the way..

      @CurtisPadley I saw your review. The comparison of focal lengths with their respective aperture sizes is good, but what got me was the comparison of the more expensive lens from Viltrox to the cheaper lens from Sigma. Personally, for me, it makes more sense to compare the Viltrox 56mm and Sigma 56mm to see which one has better image quality (if we want to see which company's lens produces better quality images). Choosing the same focal length and aperture seems fair for both brands. But this review shows a different comparison, which is also good; no hate there! 👍🏼

    Just tapped into photography and bought the viltrox for portraits only.
    Sigma is a fairly old lens so I didn’t really want to buy it😂

      Best lens for Portraits! Sigma is old for sure but still a solid performer. The age shouldn't put anyone of buying it 🤙🏻

      @@CurtisPadley Appreciate the reply! Really love your vids!
      I’m a tech guy so it’s kinda a norm that things got outdated in a year or two. Now I’ve learned that it’s not the case for cameras/lenses😉
      The other lens I’m using is the Sony kit lens 18-135 oss. Capable enough for my needs, so I’m mounting it almost all the time. Only when I need to shoot portraits or shoot under low light will I switched to the viltrox.

    There is no competition between this lenses. They have a far different focal lenght.
