    The idea of using washers is great. None of the other pegboard installation vids mentioned that but it makes a lot of sense. I will try that out. Thanks!

    • @DIYwithDave
      @DIYwithDave  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! I have found that using the washers makes it more secure, mainly because the particle board that peg board is ususlly made out of is pretty weak and it is easy to screw through if you are not careful.

    Note 1/8 inch hooks used in 1/4 inch pegboard requiring the plastic clips to secure the hooks. The clips take up precious hole space. 1/4 inch hooks are made but are slightly harder to find and are more expensive but are meant to be used with 1/4 inch pegboard. Walmart online and Amazon have plastic self locking hooks that are fine for most light things and do not require the plastic clips to hold them in place.
    Very comprehensive video, thanks for sharing.

    I have never built anything or even use the drill. But this home that I purchased 19 years ago has a pegboard in the garage. I really wanna use it to get things organized and I am not a hoarder. Thank you for showing the washers and the other products because I think you’ve inspired me. I went to Home Depot this afternoon and they totally ignored me because I’m a female and they didn’t really have a lot of stuff and I was Clueless as to what to ask for and what to look for

      I am so happy that you feel inspired from my video! Don't let the guys at home depot intimidate you. Half of them have no idea what they are doing. Are the peg boards already hung up? If they are, all you need to get are some hooks. I have some links in the video if you want to check them out. If you need to hang them just follow the instructions in my video and maybe get a friend to help you lift and hold the board as you first screw it in. Good luck!

    I really enjoyed your video. Great information and delivery. I have been painting and organizing my garage for a few months, taking my time, trying to avoid later regrets or wasting time. I am astoundes at all the duplicate tools my husband and I have bought because you can't see what you have without proper organization. Shelves and pegboards help a lot.

    Awesome job! We just finished our pegboard install and came across the hint to paint the back of the pegboard that faces the wall also. It seems to help extend the life of the pegboard and keeps it from absorbing any moisture in a garage or basement install.

    Awesome video! I have pegboard on my work bench back vertical part, but I want to hang more pegboard on my walls around the work bench for extra storage, and your hanging style with washers and paint is all fantastic advice! Also loving the fact that with the pine being in sections I could hide conduits behind the pegboard for dedicated power circuits from my breaker panel without interrupting the peg board. 😎👍

    I switched to mounting the narrow boards on edge between the pegboard holes. This eliminates losing any holes to use. Pre-drilling is pretty much a must though for the holes in the boards.

    • @DIYwithDave
      @DIYwithDave  3 года назад +1

      Narrow boards are the best way to go for sure. Also, you are right; if you don't drill pilot holes in those smaller boards, they will split for sure.

    Great video, thanks so much! I was sitting wondering how to use furring strips (never did that) and your video helped a lot. Also, washers for screws? Great idea. I wouldn't have thought to do that. I like how you painted the pegboard on the wall, though mine's metal. I have an extra complication where I need to cut an outlet hole in my metal pegboard but I have a Dremel for that with metal cutting wheels.

    When I put up some peg board many years ago, instead of using boards to mount the peg board to, I instead got some 1 inch long metal spacers. I then held the peg board up onto the wall and marked a few of the holes of the peg board onto the wall at stud locations. I then got some putty and stuck it on the wall at these locations and then stuck the spacers into the putty. That way it held the spacers where I wanted them. I them held the peg board up and ran a screw through the pegboard at one hole and through the spacer and into the wall. Continued until I had all the screws and spacers in place and tight. I only lost 1 hole at each location and was able to use all the other holes around that spot for mounting whatever tools I wanted to put on there. It was just as strong, if not stronger, as putting boards onto the walls.

    • @DIYwithDave
      @DIYwithDave  4 года назад

      Using spacers is a great way to do it and like you say, you would only lose a few holes which would give you more flexibility on what you hang from it.

    Great video...what size screws did you use to screw the pine boards onto the studs and the pegboard onto the pine boards? Sorry if I missed it in the video. Thanks!

    • @DIYwithDave
      @DIYwithDave  3 года назад +2

      I think that they were 3/4 inch #8 screws. Honestly, the size doesn't much matter as long as they are not longer than the with of the peg board plus the width of the spacers you use. I also used washers between the screw and the peg board and that made it more secure.

  • @weeg0880
    @weeg0880 2 года назад +3

    Couple things to note, first the boards you use on the sides and in the center can be ripped in half so they take up less space and thus fewer peg holes. You can also buy these little round plastic spacers that are specifically designed to hang pegboard, I've seen them at the big box stores labeled as a pegboard hanging kit - has the spacers and screws for hanging the pegboard. I inherited pegboard in a shop when I bought my house and whoever hung it used 1 x4's to hang it and they built a frame around the entire edge and a full piece down the center - So Many Holes that can't be used because there is a board directly behind it. Not looking forward to taking it all down and fixing it!

    • @vaderladyl
      @vaderladyl 2 года назад +1

      Yes spacers do save a lot of the holes that the strips would block otherwise.

    It's not hoarding if it's good stuff, it's stockpiling, or prepping sounds good too. My wife stopped complaining about my 'stuff' recently. We were at a box store and I was looking at a tool, a chop-saw, but did not buy it. Later that week we were looking for a folding table that had 'disappeared' in the garage...when to our surprise we found said chop-saw , new, in the box. I said" See, it's not junk, honey , it's all good stuff, quality 'hoards'" She laughed and said ok , ok, now look for my new car....

    my man, thanks for the video, could you please answer me this ?
    i have metallic punch sheet im gonna use as a pegboard and im not gonna use peg hook , instead ill-use nut and screw and i was wondering what kind of combination is best to use ?
    1: regular nut + regular washer
    2: flange nut
    3: flange nut on both sides of the board
    thank you very much

    • @DIYwithDave

      Honestly, I think that any one of those methods would work just fine and are likely overkill unless you are hanging something really heavy. I would go with whatever is the cheapest. Maybe do a small test first to see how it performs before buying a bunch of supplies for the whole project. Good luck!
