In this video, I travel to Houghton, Michigan, and make my way to the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum. It has the largest display of Michigan minerals anywhere. This is a gem and mineral lovers paradise. All the minerals are wonderfully displayed. The exhibits are organized very nicely. There is also an AMAZING fluorescent mineral display! Outside, there is a beautiful garden and a pavilion with the largest piece of float copper (19 tons!) on display. They even have a great gift shop! I only had one hour to spend. But, I recommend planning at least 2-4 hours so you can see everything without rushing through. Thank you for watching :)
My friend, this place is incredible! So amazing in every way! I got some cave pearls (aragonite) from Germany from their gift shop. I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😁🤜🤛
Wow that place is so very impressive! Just unreal! To fully take it all in you would have to go about 3 times in a row and it's an all day event! But that place is awesome. Thank you for taking us along! It's breathtaking! Thanks Shawn!
I've wanted to visit this museum every time I've been in the Keweenaw. I should have gone much sooner now knowing how awesome it is. Because an hour and half was definitely not long enough. The gift shop was so nice, you could spend a bit of time there as well. I felt like I walked kinda quickly through the garden outside because I just love that kind of stuff!! I had to meet up with my and was already running late. But, I was going to enjoy myself. I was like a kid in a candy store. I can't wait to go back. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, Lisa. Have a great week 😊
Hey Fayde.. What a great little tour of A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum. I've now listed it as one of my bucketlist museums to stop and see personally. And Holy Smokes what a large piece of Lake Float Copper!
Hey, John! I'm glad you enjoyed the tour. I really hope you get a chance to visit this amazing museum. One of my new personal favorites. Insane float copper, huh? Thank you for watching and leaving a comment, my friend.
It's kind of a long video. But, you could tell I was walking quickly to be thorough and show all the displays. It's hard to say what part was my favorite. I really liked the rock garden and massive float copper. The fluorescent display was epic. And so was all that gorgeous datolite. I grabbed some cave pearls from the gift shop. Little aragonite spheres from Germany. I thought they were really interesting and cute, so I grabbed them. I absolutely love caves, too! I appreciate you watching. Have a wonderful week 😁
Hi, Shawn, a bit long but none the less a great video , 7:51 sand stone secretions wow, then you went inside and wow, you can never compete with these place what a collection, I just love the place wish I could visit may be if I win the lottery, just so great a perfect video for collectors , mind blowing , nice 1 Shawn, 🤠💖💯✌🔥
Yes, Cap, it was a long video. Perhaps I could have made a two part video. The outside would have almost been enough for its own video. My favorite part was the rock garden. But, I really loved seeing their collection of Datolite, which is my favorite mineral to collect. I appreciate you watching. Have a wonderful weekend 🙂
What a great museum! Thank you for taking us along, its added to my list to visit. That MN thomsonite wowww. And the prime Datolite. And of course the copper, how even? Lol ty for not putting music over it too, its so peaceful to watch. 👍😊
I absolutely love this museum, Jenny! The MN thomsonite was sweet for sure. And I just turned around and boom the datolite was there and I was instantly mesmerized. There were so many cool pieces of copper on display. Nothing compares to that massive piece of float copper in the pavilion. It was just silly how huge it was, pure copper with no host rock. 19 tons. 😲 I'm very glad you enjoyed the video. This museum definitely belongs on a rock lovers bucket list. Have a great week 😁
That rock garden was cool nice to see big chunks , and that piece of copper WOW crazy big , Then inside the minerals in there are crazy , they never stopped . thats a lot , the copper pieces are too cool , thanks for showing us around
I'll never forget seeing that massive piece of copper. And they had gems and minerals for days in there. I wish I had some specimens like the ones they had. Thanks for watching, Wil. Have a great day!
That is a great place! The park is very nice. I love the rocks and that stromatolite was incredible! Thanks for the museum tour too. They have some wonderful display pieces❤
Hello, Soul! The rock garden was amazing, and that chunk of stromatolite was so awesome. Sorry, it was such a long tour, but I wanted to be thorough for anyone who wanted to see what all was in there. I always appreciate you watching and leaving a comment, my friend 🙂
@@outdooradventureswithfayde6832 i don’t mind longer videos when they are informational. You do a nice job with yours. You could always make 2 separate videos as well. The garden was enough for its own. Adventure on!
I know you love copper as much as I do. That 19-ton chunk of float copper was mind blowing to see it and think of how crazy it would have been to get out of the lake and to its final home in the pavilion. They had so many cool specimens of copper in there. I grabbed some nice chunks from the gift shop that were very reasonably priced. I appreciate you watching and dropping a comment, buddy. Take care 🤜🤛
That is such a interesting museum. One can learn just about anything they need to know about rocks and minerals there. It amazed me to see such a variety of basalt. One thinks basalt is just basalt, but nope. Outside I seen Kona Dolomite twice and non had a marker on them. I wounder why ? 6:29 really looked like Kona Dolomite to me ? Wonder if the tag was behind the rock. The datolite sure was nice !! Wow that massive hunk of copper was amazing ! :) That is a museum I will be putting on my to do list for next year. What a awesome tour you did for us 😊👍
Cherry, you would love this place! 8:38 was definitely Kona. 6:29 I think it said sandstone of some sorts. And I thought it was quite interesting to see all the different types of basalt and other volcanic rocks out in the garden. Really, the whole garden and copper pavilion were awesome and maybe my favorite part. I just love how everything was arranged and organized. They had so many cool copper pieces in there, and the datolite was out of this world! I hope you get to visit it soon. Take care 😊
Wow! And thank you Fayde, I think you may have helped solve a mystery, I have a chunk of that basalt breccia, or at least a direction to look. That place is almost overwhelming with the amount of amazing material, I think I would need a break between sections to let it sink in. And I don't know if this would be considered in poor taste, but I think it would be cool to polish a 1x1 foot area on that float copper, off to the side of course, so folks can see the end result so to speak. Very cool beans my friend, thanks for taking the tour for us.
Well, I'm glad I could help you solve a mystery. That is really awesome when I go to a museum, and it helps me identify a fossil or rock. I definitely would move much slower next time I visit. The gift shop would be a nice place to take a break. I found a great place in Houghton for breakfast called Suomi Home. A Finnish bakery and restaurant. I had some delicious custard pancakes before visiting the museum. Nice little college city to explore. McClain State Park is a nice beach to look for rocks in Houghton. Thank you for watching, my friend 🙂
If I lived near there that would be the first place I would try to work. I would gladly volunteer time, too! Loved that place. Thanks for watching! Have a great rest of your week! Fart on!

Man! What a collection. What didnt they have in there? And where do we sign up as volunteer rock dusters? Super amazing pieces in those cases.

I will watch the rest later on my big monitor Fayde, see you later.
I hope you enjoy it. I know you would love to visit for yourself. See you later, MCH
