HOP was great for my 7yr old nephew who has learning disabilities (ADHD). Unfortunately his parents had not worked with him on the basics (counting/alphabets) and there were a lot of things missing academically that his school ignored but continued to pass him on to the next grade. Within 2 months w/ HOP, he went from not knowing all of his alphabets to not only recognizing all of them but reading up to 14 books. It really is a great system.
This is really great to hear. I almost feel like God brought me to this page to make sure I saw this comment. I have a very similar situation. My nephew is 9 and is in 2nd grade. He has suspected Learning Disabilities and suspected ADHD. I say suspected because I am currently working with his school and Pediatrician to figure things out. I became his guardian and caretaker after losing my sister last summer. I have been trying to get him where he needs to be. Unfortunately my sister due to work and struggling as a single parent missed some things. Foundational things that were supposed to be built in earlier learning. I've been trying so hard to find resources to help him and I started researching Hooked on Phonics but didn't know if it actually worked. I'm glad I saw your comment.
Just wanted to say thank you for this video. I wish I would have thought of this earlier. Feeling like a failure at this point, but determined to get back on track as my child has interest in reading where as I did not from a young age and then ended up learning to read once I got up to a higher reading level. My baby needs this and thanks to you she is officially signed up for the subscription bottom. And you’re receiving a follow low as well! Thanks again!
Thank you for this video. My 1st grade daughter is behind grade level in reading and I really want to help her this summer figure it all out. I wanted to find a program that will cover it all as I’m not sure where to start her. I feel so bad that I didn’t start sooner. I don’t know why I assumed the school/teachers were going to help her. It is my job now.
I Loved Hooked on Phonics for my daughter almost 2 decades ago. I now have 2 little grandchildren and I definitely ordered it again for them. Your video is Great. I found your video on it & now I know I made a Great choice . I know it works for experience when my daughter wasn't up to par in reading at 7. Thank You for this video.
I think you'll be pleased. I used it and my son is 32. What educators don't realize is that kids need phonics. I'm in education myself and they're struggling. So, I highly recommend it.
My 6 year old knows how to read well, she started reading when she was 5 and only used hooked on Phonics which I think was aggregated foundation. We didn’t use it religiously because either didn’t want to push her so we used it maybe once/twice a week and she still learned!! Highly recommend ot
I just started homeschooling my daughter in kindergarten with All About Reading, Spelling U See, & Itallic handwriting work books. These first couple months have been hard starting out, but I am finally seeing where my daughter is clicking with it. A lot is making sure I don’t over do it it with my time, because I can tell when the attention span starts to drain. However, there is something about this that I think would benefit from having Hooked on phonics added as a supplement in our homeschool as she is still trying to grasp how to sound out words.
I was distracted with how pretty your skin/features are! You're beautiful! And thank you for the review. My 2nd grader is still in the early stages of reading.
My son is 7 with ADHD, he’s struggling with reading. When purchasing this packet would I be able to start at 1st grade level ? Or is the curriculum dependent on the previous level ?
They have an online subscription that has an interactive internet site. My question is do you think it is worth it? Or should I just buy the traditional kit?
Thank you I am a mom if a K2 late birthday 6 year old and I just want to make learning fun and get her off to a great start I think this will be worth our wile!
I purchased this when my daughter was 4. I didn’t realize that she already knew how to read! She’s 24 now. I didn’t know Hooked on Phonics still existed.
Thank you for this video!!. I’ve been going back in forth about purchasing this for my 4 year old he is always trying to read a book to his younger siblings 2yrs/5months.
I just received guardianship of a 7th, 3rd, and 1st grades. Their reading is not where they should be, their spelling is off. I have been contemplating on buying this for them. Do you have any suggestions?
It’s hard to know for sure without talking to you and not evaluating the kids. It’s definitely a good program, but I can’t know for sure if this will work for you. If you would like to sit down and talk about it, I have a link to my education consultation call in the description.
I have 3 grand kids 7th, 3rd, and 1st grade. I just received guardianship of them and their reading is not where it should be by a long shot. I feel like I want to give this a try. Do you have any suggestions?
Look into "Teach your child to Read in 100 easy lesson" first . My 5 year old niece learned to read through that program. I feel it's a better program.
I'm confused about why there's a monthly subscription of 16 bucks (Jan2023), if you get everything you need in the first box they send you?? I think I missed something, or maybe they do it differently now and send it piecemeal??
I bought a secondhand set. I used the books to teach my oldest (20 now) to read and it worked great. I don't care about the app, so I bought another set for my 5 year old. I think the app is fine for those who don't mind the subscription, aren't confident in their ability to teach, or who don't have time to sit down with their kids for whatever reason. They now send out monthly packets with the app. You can still buy the complete sets of workbooks and reading books, but it's so much cheaper secondhand. The older books don't have anywhere to write (preK might; I didn't get that set), so they should be fine to reuse for younger siblings or sell/ give away.
What would you recommend for a 2yr old? My son will be 2 this May and I want to start practicing with him. I bought him flash card of the alphabets from dollar tree and Amazon. Any suggestions? Also do they have a digital version like other Apps such as ABC mouse? Something I can let him watch on his tablet
For a 2 yr old I would suggest play! At such a young age, play is how they learn. Exposing to books and fun activities is key. There’s some fun preschool channels on YT you could try as well.
Develop a love for learning and reading for him! Try to keep reading fun at all times. If he gets frustrated or you get frustrated, just put it away for later. This should help to foster a positive view of reading.
@@FeliciaWright thanks, I am going to try that. I will get two sets of books so we can read together. Thanks for all you do for children. I just want my grand daughter by to love reading and learning.

I am 36 and remember my mother spending time with us working through hooked on phonics. I think it's a great way to teach children.

You can do it! 💕💕💕
I appreciate this review. My son is in kindergarten and having some trouble. I’m going to try this with him.

Thank you for this honest review. I appreciate it. My daughter is 3. She is on the purple level. She is doing well with HOP.
I just came across your channel. Hooked on phonics keeps popping into my feed. I hope you continue to post long form content.
Thank you! My son just turned 3 and I want to get him reading! Thank you for such a great review❤️
Hi can you update on how your son did with this since 1 year?

Thanks for this information. I was going to get my son a tutor that was going to cost me at least $500 a month.

Very thorough review...thanks! My 6 and 8 yr olds have gaps in their Phonics foundation. How would I know if they need first grade or second grade?

My granddaughter is struggling to read. She's going to Second grade. Where should I begin with the Hooked on Phonics? Thank you in advance.
Thanks for the review will buy now
👍
I have a 3rd grader who is struggling. Should I try something else?
I would love to know this too.
DVD? Do ppl still used DVD’s? Do they have an app that can be used instead of DVD’s?
🤣 Good point! I know there’s an app with it, but not sure if it includes the video.

Me either. I used it for my son, too. He is now 32.
Does anyone know how much it costs? Monthly, yearly?

Glad it was helpful! You can definitely use this program with the babies as well. I put a link in the description to the program. 💕

So are the lessons on the DVD or from the parent?

How does this program compare to reading eggs ? Which one is better?
Please what's the best age to start a child on the HOP? Thanks and Godbless 🙏
Thanks 😊 I really appreciate your help
Would you suggest this for a child with dyslexia?
Thank you for this great review.

Thanks for the review!
How would I teach this from a distance?
She has only learned sight and is 10 years old.

Have you tried Zoom? You can definitely do it, just have to get a little creative.
