Wolf has been the most consistent top tier in Ultimate in the sense that he was top tier from the start of the game and, even with the nerfs, he really hasn’t fallen off at all.

OUCH! played against some of the best Japanese players and good players in general (like riddles) and dam he did good except for the last match. The way he plays wolf isn’t like any NA wolf and he abused the Bair kill power so well. I think after watching him, wolf is very much up there at the top.

I was coaching with a friend recently, and he’s been pretty spot with how to play Wolf.
For example, he’s getting me to understand neutral better and would sometimes discuss misconceptions while explaining a better line of play, like at 3:37.

For those curious, I’ve been working on pressure, spacing, positioning, and corner play. He’s been saying that Smash is a positioning game, and that I should always fight for a good position of the stage (allows more decisions than the player in the corner).

Word. Ouch!? already showcased stellar performance in previous majors like Pinnacle 2021 and he's really popped off mad in a bigger major aka BOBC especially against top JP players. Solid, solid performance

Personally I think Wolf is top 5. I think he has one of the best match up spreads in the game and while his approach can be very linear, I think having the ability to zone as well as fight up close really well and have really good damage output is very high value. Probably 2nd or 3rd best non dlc character for me.

Wolf has tons of characters better than him. His recovery being bad is a pretty glaring flaw. His Aerials are good, but unlike the top few, they aren’t “Racist”.
His Kill Options are slow. It can be difficult to secure a stock with him.
He has too many weaknesses to be top 10, let alone top 5.

People thinks he’s better than what he is because he has the tools but how they operate in battle against the high-top tier characters, let alone the other 80 diff characters , is a different story and he can’t always do what wolf wants to do
@@shadestrider1033 Min Min before the nerfs I agree. After the nerfs definitely not. And Snake definitely not - he has great strengths but really awful disadvantage and recovery to be better than Wolf.
Yeah wolf and Joker are very similar in neutral. People think they're rush down but that's just not it lol, they're mid range/zoning characters
Wolf has something for everything. I don’t think he’s overrated. I’d say top 15.
His smash attacks are so obnoxious
I would say he’s a bit overrated. Not too much, since he’s obviously great, but contender for top 5 to 10 is too high imo. I personally consider him the best non S tier in the game. The only thing preventing him from jumping through that barrier is his recovery.
This. He's a great character, but they're are other characters that are better at doing what he wants to (like Fox, Joker, and even Brawler.)
I think Wolf is a great character. He definitely helps a lot with learning fundamentals of the game, but he does struggle bc everyone knows the MU. Just like Joker.

I feel like one of Wolf’s biggest strength is the ability to refuse to play the enemies’ game. He’s just so versatile, consistently able to bully opponents if you’re creative enough by making it feel like Wolf can do at the very least something to bother you in most situations. However he’s a very telegraphed character, and if you’re not creative as Wolf you’re in for a lot of pain.

Wolf is really good, and that’ll never change, but as someone who mained Wolf at the start of Ultimate until earlier this year, I’ve since dropped him in favor of Aegis, Kazuya, Sephiroth, etc. He’s not exactly “honest,” but after over 3 years of playing him I just didn’t feel like he fit my playstyle anymore. I wanted a character that either easily overwhelms my opponent with frame data or plays safely with spacing, instead of trying to do a mix of the two.
Fun fact: His reflector works on Seph's counter and most of the time is a kill shot

I always say that wolf isn't top 5 but when I make a tier list it's always him that's competing for the last spot with Palu. And I usually end up leaning towards him cuz Palu's too honest lol
He's just a really solid character, well rounded in every aspect. The flaws that people try to find in him (linearity, disadvantage) are honestly just nitpicks, he's not bad at all in any of those aspects. He can zone better than most and scrap better than most. The people that play him just aren't top 5 players.
(And yes Ik Tweek played Wolf at one point but Leo would always gatekeep him anyway)

Okay, that makes sense. I maimed Wolf since day zero, and I picked up Joker and dual-main them since Dec 2019.
I will like and subscribe for that match because now I’ve found my main. Zoning and punishing counter attacks. And that side b can hit them on the ground at the right distance?? This is exactly what I’ve been looking for so A+ for gameplay but A++ for educational too haha

He’s top tier but not top ten in the game.
Wolf is great at punishing with 2 piece combos at any %. Your opponent does a bad option in neutral and he can dthrow dash, or nair dthrow dash. Fair to bair and its all so consistent and honestly easy.
I actually agree with this ,wolf is good but he takes a level of precision and knowledge, he isn’t much of a rush down character rather than a trick of all trades I think this is because of how fast fox is and how falco can combo like no tmmw he’s a nice middle and people don’t play him like that

In my opinion: He's too telegraphed, he's got great buttons but his approach is pretty straight forward so he can struggle to open people up at times. He kinda suffers the same way Ragna does on BBCF, great well rounded character yet we know what buttons are coming

I feel like wolf is one of the most honest but consistent top tiers in the meta right now.
In my opinion, Wolf is a very dishonest character. Almost everything about him is deceptive. From his lackluster run but incredibly good initial dash. Or even his oddly timed dash attack. Another thing is Wolf’s Blaster, it’s got a melee hit box in both the initial shot and for a short time after shooting, with his arm recoiling back possessing a hit box
Wolf is too solid in so many areas of the game, still getting strong results as well from many reps. I think he's still top 10, but I can see the argument for just outside that

Wolf has to win neutral too many times that’s his down fall I think. Some characters only have to win neutral once or twice in order to take stocks/games
Wolf's game plan will never be bad. Since advantage seems to being pushed to it limit lately, not getting hit to begin with is a really nice trait to have.
Neutral aside. I definitely agree that unless your positioned the proper move very precisely, you by far are getting less damage then a lot of the current meta threats. Which in the long run is kinda rough for a Wolf's momentum throughout a set.
In short, Wolf clearly is so still really good. The meta has just decided to go the opposite way of Wolf's overall game plan. Bringing you to 60-70 in one exchange and then killing your opponent is there on paper. But having no multi hits to schmix; or safe way to kill off of a grounded option, has really has limited his opportunities to do so greatly.
Last thing. I think Fox is the best space easily now. Dancing on shields, forcing preemptive defensive options for it, and then being able to react to most of the options available is kind of insane. Sure there are games where Fox just gets blown up, or dies to stray hits much earlier than Wolf. But Wolf's survivability as a spacie is still shakey at best, and is only notabley better than Foxes do to his aerial mobility. If you consider Wolf better, I ain't stopping you from holding that opinion. But Wolf's current lack of performance ,outside of Ouch?!?'s run recent run at BoBC4, tips the scales towards Fox for me.

DLCs have one or two many gimmicks apiece and the stock cast can't keep up. Wolf players might get high results but top wins will continue to go to DLCs at all levels

@@greedo194 No, it isn't. The Other Spacies can contest edgeguards with multihit aerials, as well as being able to act out of side b. While not great, being able to act out of Side B gives Fox and Falco much more options offstage compared to Wolf's short distance.
Fox's Forward Air is his only viable offstage aerial because of the short vertical distance it gives him, but it still is more likely to resist edgeguards than Wolf's N-air, F-air, or Up-Air. Fox's Shine also stalls his horizontal momentum, making it a viable mixup.
Falco's incredible vertical gain mixed with his floatier build means that he can actually throw out any aerial and Shine he wants offstage, without gimping himself. Farther offstage, he can also laser without gimping himself and even follow up with an Aerial. Despite his slow air speed, he makes up for that with his aerials, laser, shine, and incredible vertical gain.
Wolf can throw out an Aerial off stage because it doesn't last long and won't gimp him. He also has great horizontal gain because of his airspeed and Side B. However, his vertical gain is absolutely atrocious and his lack of multihit aerials gimp his recovery. Furthermore, if his Side B fails, he absolutely cannot recover, and Side B being contestable is a huge flaw in his recovery. With Fox and Falco, they can still act out of a Side B, meaning that if Side B fails, they still have a chance.
Wolf's recovery is just bad, whereas Fox's recovery is not as Bad, and Falco's recovery is "Flawed, but not bad".
@ShadeStrider103 actually I think fox recovery is the worst because he can get edgeguarded way too easily because of his slow startup with illusion as well as him being a fast faller

Wolf needs a way better recovery
His recovery actually isn't bad. A bit exploitable but his fall speed and air movement speed actually really help wolf in recovering. He's one of the few characters that can 'just be there' after options.

Unless it’s based on difficulty to play, tier lists are completely useless. After so many mid/low tiers getting picked up by good players and performing well I’m surprised people are still locked into the small minded tier list group think.
Because it does matter at top play. These players are just really good, super apparent when you see them switch to a top tier when the character there using was a low-mid tier unlike when some top players switch to top tiers from there high-borderline top tier character. Even then results don't matter as much to some top players so tiers looks different.
Try winning against a top tier using a low tier with even level players then come back here
This is b4 i watch. I think wolf's not overrated. He's got a pretty solid kit i dare say he's somewhat of a great all-rounder (imo he's the best secondary you can pick as he's fundamental based and, yet again, very versatile). The deal is this: he's been a top level threat since the beginning of the game and many high and too level players have icked him so he's pretty much been figured out. Plus his meta has been developed rather fast. So at this point counterplay has been figured out. That said, he's an extremely good solid character imo he's pretty transparent you'll only do as good as you are imo
He's underrated
I’ve been telling people, Wolf is around top 15. Not top 5 or 10. VERY good character but people overate him. If sheik was a tiny bit more consistent and had at least jokers weight, i think she’d be better than wolf. At the end of the day it’s all opinionated
Eh sheiks weight is not her issue it's her ability to be consistent with the amount fo work she has to put in a game with explosive chars who just kill you off random options something that will NEVER happen as a shiek player
