Trying to walk again after an ankle fracture is awful. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. Learning how to walk again isn’t easy.
It’s crazy. You would think it would be easy since we do it everyday. But the the old phase use it or lose it is true. This was one of the hardest things I had to do
When my doctor ask me to walk I cried and told him I forgot how to walk😢
Thanks for this comment! I thought i was just being a wuss after 6 weeks. Still cant walk
@@code6charles966can you walk the same as before now?
I just got removed my cast. Walking is seemingly impossible currently 😢
Amazing how majority of the comments have a story on an ankle injury, helps to know you are not alone and will never be alone. I’m here to join and say I have too. May 19th, I suffered a Trimalleolar Fracture. Did the surgery, cast removal , stitch removal, and currently doing the 6 weeks of non-weight bearing and next appointment on the road to rehabilitate to walk . Extremely nervous 😮💨😮💨
Honestly it's been a blessing. The ability to connect with others who are going through the same stuff is one good thing about the internet! How has your pain levels been?? are you still on blood thinners?
@@TheHealthyYinzer Absolutely!
As for pain levels , my most painful moments were day 2 and 3 after surgery , all I did was cry , because the primary medication (oxycodone) felt like it wasn’t working. I think by the second to third week from surgery , I was feeling alright and stopped the meds
I also stop taking the blood thinners like up until the day they took my cast off to remove the stitches. Before I was taking it whenever I felt and notice my foot/toes were swelling up. if I seen/felt my toes were super tight and I couldn’t move them , I took the blood thinners and they brought that swelling down good , I was moving my toes like nothing was wrong.
But as of now, I take nothing. I also had moments couple days after the surgery where my foot would just randomly jump, like a muscle spasm , but I didn’t get the meds for it until the day of my stitch removal and don’t even need it because the spasm’s stopped right after the cast came off.
I suffered trimalleolar fracture on 16th June and got ORIF surgery on 18th June. Starting partial load bearing from today. Wishing you a speedy and safe recovery!
Trimalleolar fracture on March 14, had surgery yesterday . Really puts life into perspective how we take something as simple as walking for granted. We will all get through this ❤
That’s the positive mindset I like to hear. If you watch some of my road to recovery videos I explain how family and support is what truly matters
Had a trimalleolar fracture early Feb from an ice skating fall..requiring surgery- fibula plate and 12 screws placed. Just took out my cast a week ago and will be starting physio this week. Wish you all the best. Really nervous about the pain, but looking forward to regaining my mobility
@@DaenaCamilleBallack it’s a long road! That feeling of the cast coming off is one step closer to walking. Make sure you are stretching your big toe back as much as you can!
I had the same fracture march 10th and surgery the 24th I should be walking in less than 30 days, how is your injury going?
@@jesusdominguez6934 make sure you are stretching your big toe back! It was the one thing that really helped me start to walk again.
I broke my ankle on September 9th of this year. In two days I will have 2 weeks post surgery. I feel mentally exhausted and very sad. I feel so alone and I know I need to be strong but it's incredibly challenging and thinking about walking is so hard to imagine at the moment :(
I’m sorry to hear that Nancy. You are not alone! I just went through this and like the others comments you can get through it. The biggest thing for me in the beginning was to attach my recovery to my “why”. Reshaping your mindset is as important as the pt. I.e. Why do I want to get better? Instead of why did this happen to me was a huge shift for me. I’m 2.5 years from this injury and just getting back to the things I love.
@@TheHealthyYinzer Thank you for your words. When I think positively I do find that I can start to see the light. I appreciate what you say since you’ve been there. Thank you for your videos and your support and advice. Have a great day!
Broke mine on the 4th of September. I will admit to treating my foot like a baby. You get use to it. I recommend starting to walk like 2 weeks before leaving your boot.
Any nerve damage stinging feeling on ball of foot
How are u doing now Nancy? This is my first week walking since my surgery 7 weeks ago. Its hitting mw hard since Iam experiencing pain
I took my very first steps today (6weeks post trimalleolar op). I had a panic attack and couldn't follow the therapist's instructions. May Allah bless his soul! He was so patient and allowed me time, space and COMPASSION until I could calm down. The journey is tough, but we will go through it safely God willing ❤️
The journey is tough but just take it one day at a time! Celebrate the little wins
I am 7 weeks post op from dislocation and trimalleolar fracture of left ankle. I start walking with my boot on next week. I am so excited and scared at the same time. My foot doesn't hurt or swell right now, but have been told it is going to do both. Trying to stay positive.
❤
congrats bro, i’m 3 months post op and i know the feeling. don’t stop keep going
Stay positive man! You’ll get through it! The pain sucks but think of the long game
Trimalleolar fracture Nov 22! Still use crutches, moonboot. 5 plates, 9 pins, metalwork removal, washout and debridement and now waiting on a 4th surgery, an ankle fusion. It's been a long 18 months! A very difficult mental struggle... Keep going my friend, you will get there 😁
Omg 4 surgery’s!?! Now an ankle fusion! Omg!! You are strong willed! How are you feeling?
1000th like!! I recently fractured my ankle due to a bad landing and I'm currently on week 2! Wishing speedy recoveries to everyone!! 🎉😊
1000 likes!? Crazy. I’m glad this post has become a source of inspiration and information. Did you have to get the external fixator?
I also fractured mine just over 2 weeks ago due to a bad landing too (while skydiving). I hoping I can start walking again in 4 weeks when the cast is removed.
I broke my foot due to a slip and bad landing lol
@@maddieebobaddiee lol, from Skydiving too?
@@djrisks no lol I tripped on a broom 🫣 super embarrassing hahaha
Just had surgery on June 20th. Have 3 plates and 10 screws. I’m so nervous about walking again and the recovery. I just want to get back to work and my normal life. Being alone as been so hard as well. Good luck to you all!
The recovery is a long process and being alone is even tougher. What really helped me is having something to focus on keep that mindset of wanting to get back to normal life. that is what is gonna get you through this. When do you start pt?
@@TheHealthyYinzer my surgeon said I will be non-weight bearing for 8 weeks so not until after that, so assuming all goes well should be early September. I am trying to stay busy and I’m working towards my real estate license so that is keeping me focused on the future. Have you started PT? How often do you go? Thank you for responding.
Oh, I see you're still in the early stages of recovery. This can be mentally draining. The video you watched was from two years ago, and I do my best to assist others through comments. I personally went through an eight-week program and found it very helpful. As an exercise physiologist, I knew what I needed to do, but it was beneficial to have someone else create the program for me. It's important to focus on extending your big toe when starting physical therapy. You may not think about it, but it's a crucial step in regaining normal walking ability.
@@rachaellatas2637 I am alone too. My ankle fracture
People don't talk enough about how debilitating it is losing your sense of independence. AND being stuck at home not working. It really wears down on a man.
Surgery is Monday. You give me hope
How was the surgery
I broke my tibia and fibula on Dec 16. 2022 and damn, seeing other people doing what I had to do after surgery makes me feel connected to this community. I’m still recovering and I hope you did too🤙
The hardest part with this injury is definitely the loneliness and doubt. Rest assured I’m here for you if you need anything. Just keep doing your mobility exercises every day and you’ll be ready to rock n roll once you put weight on it
I just broke my tibia and fibula on feb 6 I saw my foot hanging from my leg
@@mintfinish8804 I just broke the exact same as you. It took 3 weeks for the surgery. To allow my blood blisters heal. I broke it on Feb 7...I just had my surgery on the 24. Now I have to start my exercise to move my ankle but all I remember is it hanging backwards. The trauma and loneliness is the worst part.
I dislocated my ankle on 2/14/23, ended up breaking 3 bones in my foot along with some torn ligaments, dr said surgery wasn’t necessary after looking at the X-rays, still have swelling but it’s going down, he has me in a wrapped splint till swelling goes down a little more for a cast.. This sucks
I’m recovering rn too bro broke mines on the 31st
Im right here trying to walk after compression boot has come off. I'm glad you said it's a weird feeling cos it really is!!
You literally feel the brain having to rewrite the path way! It’s wild!
It is such a weird feeling. I'm 4 months since surgery for broken tib fib, ive got permanent internal fixator. I'm mostly using 1 crutch now and back to work. First 2 months were awful physically and mentally. I hope you're moving around better now and back to some sort of normality. 😊
Wow, a permanent internal fixator? That sounds intense! Mentally, it was one of the toughest challenges I've ever faced. But once I made peace with it and focused on improving just 1% at a time, I realized that I could accomplish anything after that
@@TheHealthyYinzer yes you have to focus and know that you will get better. 🙂
Broke 2 bones in my ankle and dislocated my knee at the same time around 2 and a half weeks ago. Had surgery, a plate on one side and screws in the other. Was in a half cast for 2 weeks now in a boot (no weight bearing for another month). Staying as positive as I can. This will possibly be me in 4 weeks time so keep going! 😊
I know it’s hard laying in bed. Just keep trying to improve 1% each day and you’ll get there. If you have any questions I’m hear to help.
Any updates on how it’s going? 🥹 currently in the same situation but I’m 6 weeks post surgery learning to walk again but feels like it’ll take forever.
@@AshcashbxI'm 6 weeks in as well... But I'm still taking bed rest because I have broken ankle on one leg and dislocated my knee on the other leg.... idk what to expect
I am 6 weeks in and walking with a boot and sometimes crutches too because that pain!!! I get to start therapy this week and try a lace up boot so I can drive. I drive with a small brace and sketchers. Now that is painful! 😮 I'm just happy I can drive to my Doctor's appointment.
@@Ashcashbx I didn't get a notification for this sorry! It has officially been a year since I broke my ankle. Still not 100% but I can do most things normally. It felt like forever too, trust me, don't push yourself and you'll get there. I hope you're doing better by now!
"Huh... thats a weird feeling..." yup. It just feels weird and its hard to describe. Feels like a brand new foot thats never touched the ground before.
You can really feel your brain working. It was like kill bill when she was trying to get her toes to move lol
It’s weird my foot all the skin pelled off like a snake skin and it was smooth and I’m still trying to get through the weird feeling
I just started walking after fracturing my tibia & fibula & having tibial rod surgery. I understand how u feel that u have to retrain yourself to walk. I’m with u! Best of luck & best wishes for a speedy recovery ❤️🩹
You don’t realize how tough it is until you’re starting over. Hope you are doing better!
I’m currently 4 weeks post surgery, I’m supposed to get my 2nd cast off in about a couple weeks. I had a tib rod too & a fib broken in multiple pieces. How long did you have a cast before being moved to boot? Also, when you got a boot we’re you able to start partial weight bearing?
First time talking a step for me in 12 weeks. 3 ankle surgeries and 20 implants to save my foot after I wrecked my Harley. It's so frig'n weird!!!! Good luck to all y'all in rehab and therapy.
Good luck to you! My dad was recently in a bad motorcycle accident. Guy blew through the stop sign and almost killed him. It’s wild what we take for granted. If you recover fully-could you still ride your bikes?
@TheHealthyYinzer I am rebuilding my bike. It wasn't damaged too bad. This gives me the chance to get it up on the stand and throw some upgrades at it.
My husband is now on n the same situation ☹️he had surgery in ankle and fibula and tibia they put plates and 18 screws , hopefully he will be recovered soon again hopefully 🙏
@@altinapilinci8870 that’s rough! 18 screws!! Has he started pt yet

I broken my ankle in 3 places in the end on January, I had surgery and now im hopefully gonna be able to walk in a month this rly encourages me ❤
Wishing you all the best! It’s a long road ahead but stay positive and stretch your big toe back asap. Thank me later lol
How is ur ankle and do u walk normally?
I broke my ankle in three places as well I did not have surgery but my accident happened January 14. It is now April 9 and I am trying to at least apply pressure on my foot to try to walk. Are you walking yet?
The X-ray showed my bones are healing very well. But now I’m afraid to apply pressure on my foot and it also feels funny foot also sometimes swells they said I also damaged some nerves in my right leg when I fell.
@@meekashantel5096 I am! I’m in PT now and I’m starting to walk, I was in a cast for 4 weeks and a boot for 5 weeks so I’m starting to walk without it! 😊
Broke ankle in 3 places.has Surgery placed screws and plate in my foot . Here I am 8 weeks later. Cast came off..Monday. I'm allowed to put 25 percent weight on my foot but the walking boot is killing me..Have to go back Wed. For another boot.God help anyone going through a break ❤❤ Long painful journey.
Hey your situation is exactly like mine...Broke ankle in 3 places...same plates and screws. Operation done 8 weeks back and now wearing airboot and 25% weight started. All the comments have scared me. God knows when we will be able to walk 😢😢
By now you must be in your 10 week.. how is it going?
I am 2 plates 10 screws cast came of the 3 of this month I also can only apply 25% pressure to my right foot feels funny I go back the24th of this month
I’ll be 10 weeks and in just a few days. My doctor told me to slowly transition from 25% weight bearing to full weight bearing at my own pace. Today (day 11 of weight bearing) was my 1st day with no crutches and almost no pain! I’m scared to try it without my boot though. It’s definitely a long physical AND mental journey!
I broke my heel in three places On Super Bowl Sunday (2/12/23) as well as a dislocated foot joint, and terrible sprain. I have been walking for about 3 weeks. It still hurts but definitely improving! Don’t get discouraged! They told me it would take a year to heal as fully as it will heal, so I’m going to stay positive!
I’m close to two years now and I still deal with it on a daily basis. It sucks but with the right mindset you can comeback
Yesterday the doctor said i can now put weight on my foot, after 8weeks. I am so terrified, im absolutely scared im gonna fall or its going to hurt so bad. The anxiety kicks in everytime i think about it
You got this! Just take it one step at a time. Do try to overdo it because the muscles required to walk still need time to wake up as well
Im on week 6 after breaking my foot in 2 places. Nervous as well for when I’m cleared but we got thiss!
It's crazy, how much it feels foreign. I'm just begining to train to walk again. Beat of care. Happy Holidays.🎄💯
Wishing the best for you! I felt like Bambi trying to walk again. Make sure you are stretching your big toe for at least 30 seconds
WELL DONE BRO , you are a champ. I hope you're okay , i have a really bad broken leg , and watching this has given me so much confidence ❤❤❤
I wish you the best! How much longer do you have in the cast?
Man that pain after letting your ankle down from elevating is the worst I’ve ever felt
Ever!!! And it stays for like 2 weeks too
Yes!! 💯 all the blood rush!
Yes, agreed! 3 1/2 weeks now after surgery still dealing with it
I THOUGHT THIS WAS JUST ME WOW
I stupidly didn't take pain medication right after getting 6 massive screws put in and when the blood rushed down to it the first time the next morning it scared the shit out of me. I've broken bones and had many injuries over the years but nothing compared to the pain that morning. Take your pain medication BEFORE the nerve block wears off 🤠
I broke my ankle badly 1 year ago and today i took out all the stuff inside my ankle it was a very long journey with a lot of pain and a lot of work to be able to walk again and run etc. To everyone who have the same injury just trust the process all will be fine work hard have friends and family around you is the most important thing ! To help others it takes about 6 months to be able to walk and run again but i thing you need about a year to feel your ankle like it was before the injury so be patient❤️
How was the recovery after you got the hardware out? I would love to run again but I’m afraid haha
@@TheHealthyYinzer now it’s 5 days after I took the hardware out I have a lot of pain and I’m not able to walk very good without crutches my doctor said I will be able to walk and run in about 15 to 20 days🥲
@@giannispetrou4706do the always take the plates and screws out?
I am 12 weeks out from bimalleolar ankle fracture. It’s definitely been a long, painful journey. I’m working hard to walk with one crutch. Struggling with pain and stiffness to the rest of my foot not necessarily the fracture sites. I wasn’t prepared for how long of a recovery this is.
Any nerve damage stinging ball of foot
had a car accident back in October 11th tomorrow i’ll have my follow up checkup hopefully i’ll be able to walk with at least a boot regardless i’m thankful it could of had been worse and we take everything for granted until we are in certain circumstances.
Hope you’re doing well! Did you have any surgery?
The feeling now is mutual. Just remove my cast today. And was just like that now :/
I hope your walking is getting better! Keep stretching that big toe!
How do you feel now?
I just broke my fibula bone and medial mellious and going to have a surgery this Tuesday.. super nervous .. seeing vlogs are helping me to start the journey... I have a long way ahead pray for me please

It gonna be okay I was nervous too broke mines the 31st got surgery as well now doing therapy slowing get back to normal
How was the surgery??
I just had surgery to remove a bone spur that was rubbing on my Achilles tendon. It hurts so bad to try to walk and it’s such a weird feeling trying to walk at all. Good luck. It feels like it’s going to be a much longer journey than I ever expected.
you got this man keep it pushin! broke my tibia and fibula 10 weeks ago it was an opened fracture really bad and i just got my boot off starting the progress off walking w out a boot!
How does it feel to walk again?

Damn thats a quick turn around though! You got lucky in a way. Are you in PT?
@@TheHealthyYinzer haven’t walked or put weight doh 6 months since February is when I got hurt. Using a walking boot starting physical therapy next week
Those are big steps. I wonder if they’ll put you in full weight bearing at first or gradually increase it. I went full weight bearing when they cleared me. Not sure if it was the right thing to do but I needed to try

Seeing a lot of comments that I can relate to. About a week ago I had a plate and some screws put in my left fibula. Now fully realizing how weird it will be to walk again.
How is it doing??
I suffered a trimalleolar fracture slipping off the last stair on March 23rd. Had surgery March 31st and transitioned from the temporary soft cast into a fibreglass one on April 18th. I won't see the surgeon again until May 27th for a review.
I'm only 5 weeks in to the first 9 weeks of my journey.
Those who have gotten past this, I commend you! I'm suffering more from the mental inconvenience than I am the pain and I hate it!!! I want my foot back! 😭🤬
T
Suffered a trimalleolar fracture a week ago (Sept 9) and surgery 3 days later. I have a fibular plate and 13 pins. Doc said to expect 7-8 weeks before I can be weight bearing again.
I’m sorry to hear that! Sounds like what I have in my ankle. These next few weeks are going to be mentally draining. Make sure you find something to keep your mind off the injury.
Trimalleolar fracture and dislocation, 2 wks post op today. Stitches removed and boot on. I agree about not wishing on my worst enemy. The pain was excruciating. I sprained my other ankle trying to use crutches. I have balance issues. So have been in bed or in a wheelchair. 4 more weeks of no weight bearing then I can start putting weight on. Thanks for the video. Good to see others who are or have gone through this. You are doing fantastic. Hang in there. Hardest part besides the pain, is not having friends and family that are helping. Mine act like I am a burden and don't assist with anything. Plus I am so used to going all the time. How do you all stay positive?
Donna I’m sorry to hear that. I had a trimalleolar with dislocation too. External fixator for a week…it was rough. What helped me stay positive is realizing that the only to get better is keep trying to improve something 1% each day. I have a whole series on it called “the road to recovery”. There is a community in these comments that have all experienced something similar. You are not alone in this! Always reach out if you need to! I’m here to help
Praying you are better and have support now. Just keep saying it will get better with time.
I’m in the same exact boat trimalleolar with dislocation and I am 2w 5d post op. I’m ferried for the suture removal this coming Thursday! Was it terrible??
@@familychannel4life242 that was surprising easy. You have been through much worse. The hard part is when that boot comes on and you start putting weight on that foot. Make sure you take it easy at first and keep stretching your big toe back
Sutures didn't hurt at all@@familychannel4life242
I've been there and done that. You'll heal young man. It took me 2 years to heal completely. Now I don't think about it anymore.
Thanks for the kind words! What type of fracture did you have?
Got into a car crash and was hospitalized for 45 days, both my tibia and fibula shattered to more than 11 fragments and ripped through my skin. I needed two operations and currently have 4 metal plates inside and several screws. It’s been more than 2 months since the last operation and I am so worried that I’ll never be able to walk again, I’ve been given permission to 25% weight bear, but even so, I’m still struggling with that, this video gives me a little hope though.
I’m so sorry to hear that! It’s a rough injury. You main goal is stretching your big toes, the ankle, and activating the muscles that help you walk. My dad was just in a severe motorcycle injury and sustained similar injuries. Watching him trying to come back is so difficult. You really just gotta take it one day at a time and try to focus on something to improve each day
@@TheHealthyYinzer I’m really sorry to hear about what happened to your dad, what matters is that he survived, he will definitely get better :) Vehicle accidents suck, especially motorcycle ones, I also suffered fractures in my spine and hip, liver bleeding, and lots of deep wounds. I currently have scars all over my face.
Holy shit! Im glad you survived! Are you doing any pt currently?
@@TheHealthyYinzer Not yet, at the moment I am only able to walk but only with crutches, I will start PT when my surgeon finally says I can 100% weightbear. I heard that the ankle can still hurt even years after a fracture? How is your leg now?
@@gatooncracko527 it really depends on what I do and where. If I’m cooking for my clients I have a limit of 4-5 hours before I’m feeling it. I broke my ankle the first may. Six weeks of mostly non weight bearing and hanging around in a Airwalking boot. Now I am limping around a little bit, but it is not as easy as I thought it would be. Be patient and hopeful. And try not to much. There are some good videos for smal exercieses even if you are in a boot or cast. I think they helped me. Acceptance is key. And try to get in touch with fruends if you are feeling lonesome. That helped me a lot.
Acceptance! Thats the magic word. You can’t change what happened. The only thing we can do is move forward and manage the pain
Wow! I had Tibia surgery non-weight bearing 3 months and I am learning to walk with a walker-I give you credit using crutches!
BTW Nice Drum Set!

Here too. It was been mentally draining. Progress is slow and people think they know when you should fully walk.
Yeah its a long road. People who have never been through something like this cant relate. You have to relearn something that we do autonomically and its tough. You really just have to commit to it. How stiff is your big toe? If you are struggling start there. Stretch your big toe back for 30 or so seconds 3-4x a day. Game changer for me
@@TheHealthyYinzer Hi 👋. Thank you. My toe isn't stiff as say 2 weeks ago. Right now it's my ankle. Been walking and doing foot stretches. Slowly doing normal heel to toe foot movement. Just going through the stiffness atm, slowly walking better. and better. I can slowly walk with 1 crutch.
Lets gooooo! Progress! I did the crutch for a few days and i couldnt stand it. I got a cane at a local thrift store and found it to work much better. Are you going to PT?
@@TheHealthyYinzer Nice! Crutches can so dangerous & uncomfortable to use. I am going to PT twice a week.

Are you non weight bearing?
I know the feeling February 12 I broke all three bones in my ankle now I am taking baby steps finally hope you do well it will be very sore mush his still but you gotta move it to heal it and a. Lot of exercises to help the muscles get stronger good luck to you 🥰
I broke my ankle and part of my tibia on Oct 10th. Had surgery on the 21st and was told yesterday I could start putting some weight back on it with the boot on. Super stoked but I feel Ike I forgot how to walk 😅 My ankle was like 👁️👄👁️ 😂
It’s exciting getting back! The first few weeks is definitely an experience. You get to feel how weak the muscles are. Make sure you are stretching your big toe. Can’t emphasize the importance enough
In march I just had reconstruction on my foot and I totally understand what you're going through.
How’s it healing??
@TheHealthyYinzer Thank you for asking. It has been a long ride for me. The doctor told me it was going to be a long and hard recovery. And I didn't really realize how long and how hard it was going to be. I'm 75 years old, and I've been dealing with this foot for several years. So my balance wasn't good. And finally, it got to the point that I couldn't do any fun stuff anymore. I got an infection in my incision about almost to my 8th week. So that set me back. The doctor felt like it was because the boot that he had put me in was rubbing on the incision so I had to get out of that. Go on an antibiotic and use another kind of a shoe which reminded me of a platypus. I am now able to be off a knee scooter, walker, and just using a cane or my walking sticks. When I go to a big store, I sometimes do use their scooters that they have. I am now able to drive, which makes me so happy. I have occupational therapy come to the house, and I have PT also coming. July 21st will be 4 weeks.
#Tc bro get well soon!
Congrats, I hope I’m walking in 8 weeks. Just had my ankle replaced and all my ligaments and tendon reconstructed 6 weeks ago.I am now walking with a boot and crutches, so I’m pretty grateful for that! Still have lots of numbness in my foot. Anyone have tips for the numbness I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you
I wasn’t able to walk on my right ankle for a year. I’ve been walking 16 days now but still in a walking boot with a wedge inside it. It’s a slow process but I went up steps today for the first time and my calf burned but I did it I have 4 plates 12 screws 6 pins and 8 wires. I crushed the three bones in my ankle.
Congrats on going up the stairs. I had to single leg hop up mine for 2 months. I’m still not sure how I didn’t crack my skull. I’m curious why the decided to go the wire route? Is that to keep the fibula and tibia together?
Sounds the same break as mine
Cas : Finally i can sleep on those ankles again after months
how does it feel? does the big toe feel stiff?
I had a dislocated trimalleolar fracture with a comminuted fibula fracture on November 9th. I’m nonweightbearing for at least another 7 weeks. Do you have any advice for getting through this?
Sounds like what I am going through. First, you need to attach your recovery to your why. For me it was getting back to my business and being able to help my clients. Once I had the why in my mind I would look at everyday as a chance to get better in something. If this is mobility, strength, flexibility. You will lose muscle mass and that will cause some pain and depression. But just keep your why front of mind. Once you are able to do the mobility exercises START ASAP! Everyday is a chance to get better and come back to the things you love. I’m always here if you need anything
I have just had my cast of I had a trimalleolar fracture 9 pins a plate in my ankle and 11 weeks in a cast I actually went really dizzy and nearly passed out the first time I took a few steps I'm Currently 6 days out of the cast and in a walking boot the physical therapy in the uk well the therapist was a nightmare and I'm pretty much left to it on my own I've managed to get up stairs and in and out of my house and I'm just practicing walking up and down the lower floors of my house I totally get how he's feeling it feels like your foot is not your own fingers crossed for him it's not easy especially when someone goes just do it like this 😂 you really want to say if it's that easy you go through it
Oh no, that’s horrible. Let me know if you need any assistance with anything. It was crazy when I first took the steps because you could feel you know what to do but your brain and body just does not want to cooperate together and you literally have to force it. I just kept thinking of the kill Bill movie whenever she was forcing herself to move her toes lol
Im just going through this. Its crazy how you can forget how to do something youve done your whole life. For me I couldn't even curl my toes when i sprained my ankle. Now walking again i realized i wasn't using my toes when i walked. It's been a real struggle
The old saying use it or lose it is 100% real!! I think people forget how important your toes are for walking. If they are stiff you are basically ice skating
You got this! I just broke my ankle a week ago and it's no fun at all. You are in my prayers 🙏🏽
I’m 6weeks in still non weight bearing have and appointment in two weeks hopefully can walk in my boot Goodluck to you and stay strong
@@ChimiMundale thank you. I go in two weeks also for f/u. I'm in a cast I don't like it.
You got this!
I feel you I tore my acl, mcl. meniscus at work on 2/4/2023. I ended up in the hospital on 2/15/2024 due from me not walking correct a got a callous that bursted and gave me callulites up my right leg. I waa in the hospital for 11 days and on antibiotics for 51 days. I left hospital with a picc line and continued antibiotics at home. So my foot dr gave m the ok to talk to my knee dr about surgery. I finally got my knee surgery and from walking a got another callous and was placed in a foot brace. Knee dr is keeping me out of work for now. It just seems one step forward and two step backwards. The pain in my knee was very painful. I, get depressed and thinking stupid things.
Broke my ankle in 3 places from a bad skydiving landing. Ankle still swollen and the screws and plates are painful especially when it rains.
Omg lucky that was the only thing broken?!? Are you okay now??
2 weeks post surgery for trimalleolar fracture with dislocation and ligament damage. (Bicycle accident) I’m still 4 weeks out from even putting weight on it. It is so frustrating. Reading all the comments on this post is so affirming.
How bad does it hurt stepping on your foot again after surgery? I’m on the clear, but It hurts every time I try to put weight on my foot. 😢
Yeah I’m the same way. Keep pushing through it! The fascia in your foot isn’t tough enough therefore the pain
Yes, so much pain in my foot while trying to bear weight.
Omg look at you!!! I should’ve went gradual like you. I was too excited to walk again haha
Are you walking any better?
@@TheHealthyYinzer Yes! No boot at all today! I definitely have a limp though. I guess that’s to be expected on day 1 of no boot. How long did it take you to walk without a limp?
I had my surgery September the 6th my ankle and foot surgery , I'm still in the cast. I'm kind of nervous when I do start walking again I know I'm going to have to go to pt.
Unfortunately you be non weight bearing for 8-10 weeks. Which means the leg is gonna atrophy. Make sure you start your mobility exercises and big toe stretches asap
Im 3 months post op right now after dislocated foot, 1 compound break, and 4 fractures. 9 pieces of titanium installed. Its really a tough process. I still cant walk. PT is the best way to go. The dislocation did more damage then anything! Im dealingvwith swelling still. Im slowly getting there. My goal is to be walking without crutches in another month. Good luck and be persistent to anyone struggling with foot or ankle break. Worst pain ever!
This just happened to me last Thursday had a heavyweight fall on me at wrestling practice gotta go to the surgeon Wednesday to see if I stay in a cast or can get a boot but I can wait for all this to be over and get back to wrestling
Damn bro! My happened in a hockey game. Did you get a fracture?
@@TheHealthyYinzer nope it broke my fibula
I didn't need surgery but I'm on week 3. I've put some pressure on it and feel tingles everywhere. It's also so skinny already 😅 I can't wait to be moving again!
My calf looked like a wet noodle before I started walking. The tingle is because the fascia in the foot is weak. Once you start walking again that will go away in a few days
Fractured my fibula 3 places ..ankle in two,3 inches above ankle, and approx 3 inches above that..I've been getting about on a knee scooter great fun..I'd never of made appointments without one....I'm at 8 wks can't really use crutches as I've Fractured both wrists previously..I've used them for weight bearing..really would love to be where you're at..Good luck with it all 🎉🎉🎉
Wow! That sounds rough! My dad is is the same boat. He was hit on his motorcycle and broke every extremity. Are you a high fall risk? And how does the process of weigh bearing go with a broken fib?
Maan i still have 8 weeks to go until i can walk after my ankle fracture. Good luck dude!
Hope you are recovering well! On a positive note…when you start walking it will be much warmer out
@@TheHealthyYinzerThank you for reply bud, i got 2 plates with 8 screws but no cast. Exercising that toe and up/down movements of foot everyday, once an hour, from morning until 3pm (as advised by doctor, apparently not good to exercise healing bones after 3pm). Hoping you already running and back to normal life. I hate being in bed almost 24/7. :)
I know that’s right. The bed rest is rough. A massage gun really helped me out. Did you have to get the external fixator too?
@@TheHealthyYinzerHey bro, thank you. No, didnt get the external fixator, just bandages for the stitches. Got told to start exercising the foot from day 2 after the operation, just by moving the foot up and down (sideways only after 6-8 weeks) and exercise for toes. Seems to be much better now, 11 days after surgery, but my leg already seems to be much skinnier then other one. Cant imagine how will i start walking in 8 weeks 😅. How is your foot, is it fully recovered? Have a good day bro 😎
I just broke my left leg both bones Tibia and Fibbia it's been 2 weeks and it's so hard to say still. I don't take any pain medication I think that is what helps me stay off my feet. Because if I felt no pain I would just have to go somthing. I have titanium rod done one bone and a plate on the othere. You have to push yourself and be better then before.
I totally get that. You have to be somebody you have never been before. I had the nerve blocker in my leg so I didn’t have to go down the route of pain pills.
Yes it’s such a weird feeling. I’ve just started myself
I still have pain 1 yr after. It’s a long road but you’ll get there. Keep up with the pt and your stretches
@@TheHealthyYinzer Thanks it’s been 4 weeks I can finally walk but still swole a little
@@TheHealthyYinzer Good luck to you also
How’s the progress?
I haven't walked in 4 weeks. I can't wait to walk againnn
It’s rough… How much longer you got?
@@TheHealthyYinzer not sure. I feel like I'll be able to walk in 2 weeks hopefully. A car hit me but my bf pulled me back so it only brushed my arm, but it hit my foot and ankle. I just ordered a walking boot today so I'll see how that works.
Oh Shit! Lucky he was there. Hope you are feeling better!
Thank you!@@TheHealthyYinzer
I found this cause I was searching for a tutorial on how to walk since it seems like I forgot because my injury just recently healed.
Thanks for finding the channel! I have a few videos on getting yourself back in action. Let me know if you have questions
I had surgery on my right ankle on October 18th I finally starting my physical therapy Monday I will documenting it
I wish you all the best! Those pt sessions can be rough haha. Go into it thinking you are gonna get better 1% each session
How bad was the fracture?
The fracture was on the tibia that was the worst part of them all. Everything else healed before surgery. I broke it in three different parts. On the 15th of December my doctor told me to try to walk on it because it was healed. It still hurts when I get up from my ankle to toes. At nights it hurts a lot. I can’t walk on it for a long period of time I work in a warehouse I don’t know when I’m going back to work.
@@cakeonice09 Oh my I’m sorry to hear that I had fractured my tibia too but at the worst part 🙁 pretty much for me I ended up fracturing it at the end not only did I fracture I only fractured some cartlidage which means I got a higher chance of arthritis. I had physical therapy yesterday but for some reason now I gotta do it till January 5th. I wish I had just broken my fibula that thing healed up already and the scar has healed up long ago
@@bbqsauce2865 that was what my doctor said about my fracture that how bad it was. He said that I can develop arthritis. I have anemia so it took so long to get surgery because I had to get iron infusions.
I broke my leg 2 yrs ago it took me like an hour to learn how to walk again
I always think of kill bill…
Man makes me feel so much at ease knowing I'm not the only person that's been through this. I had a Trimaelleor frscture 3 weeks ago and I'm so paranoid to move my leg even a little bit. How long does it take guys to be able to walk to a little?
We’re all in this together! Did you have surgery yet?
I just broke my bibula , in cast housebound . 😢 day 11 .. feel your pain .
How long did they say it was going to take?
Ugghhh, my surgery is in two days. This scares me to no end!
You will get through it! What are you getting done?
Had my surgery last December 18 due to ankle fracture. It's a weird feeling whenever my foot touches the ground. Still on my way to recovery. Long journey ahead and I cant wait to walk again and have my normal life back again
Anne I wish you the best! we are all in this strange place together. The unknown is the most challenging part. Are you in a boot currently? Have you done any pt?
Ah but you see...your cat is not ruining it...she knows something is amiss with that leg and is checking it out. I bet she tries to lie on/near it to soothe and comfort you!
Btw I fractured my tib and fib in April 2024 - I know the feeling!! Walking (= limping lol) w/o aids after 8 weeks but challenged by other side effects. As someone else said - I shall be forever grateful when walking normally again!!
How are you feeling currently?
@@TheHealthyYinzer 2 1/2 Months post-op I am feeling pretty good and am probably making faster progress than most. I was/am generally very healthy and have a good weight so that helps of course.
I have practiced "active rest" from the get-go (which meant ignoring a lot of people who told me endlessly to be careful and take it easy) and am driving again, working part/time, and pretty much a lot of the activities (in the garden and house) I did before. Of course all the time I am careful and make sure I take breaks. This approach also kept me in good mental health.
My biggest concern are my "hammer toes" - but they are slowly going down with diligent physio.
IT’S SO HARD I CAN’T I’M CRIPLLED TO DEATHXBSKDMSLDLEFPF
kitty PT. oiy, yall got me scared as hell. hooping this morning and came down on some feet. crumpled and heard or felt some pops/cracks. after 15 mins I wasn't too bad and got myself home, but definitely can't put any weight now. x-rays tmrw😢
Let us know what happened!! Hopefully it was only a strain but if you felt some cracks. Ill say i knew my ankle was broken the minute it happened. The guy slide tackled me and as soon as i got up to stand on it i felt the tibia and fibula cross over each other... basically scarred for life but let us know!
Thanks for recording this im with a broken ankle in 3 places 5 week's after surgery now it sucks how are you doing are you walking ok now dose your leg swell
Good question! If I wear normal shoes my leg and back can only last a few hour at most before swelling. My problem is since surgery I have a a muscle that protrudes out of my leg ( it’s like a little ball) and if I’m on my feet too long it swells. It’s a tough injury
@@TheHealthyYinzer Thanks you for your answer i feel your pain man mine swells on both sides of the surgery when im up too long and my heel can't touch the ground hope i we get better soon 🤞🙏
Same!! I hope everything heals up. Make sure you are stretching your big toe back for 30 seconds at a time. Game changer when you start walking again
Has anyone else been using compression socks for swelling and if so, once you start walking do they really help or not?
Soo glad im not the only one🥲
We are in this together! Hope you are recovering well
I didn't had surgery doc told me to keep cast for 6 weeks but after 5 weeks i started walking on my own without any stick, it pains to walk,, i dont know it healed or not,, i had ankle fracture,, and i had to attend my sister's wedding
May it feel properly thats all i pray even if i didn't followed the instructions and walked on 36 days putting all the weight.
When they cleared me for weight bearing... i went full weight (not knowing it was supposed to be a gradual thing) i will say my legs and hips regretted it for a few weeks. Just make sure you streghten the muscles in the injured leg. thats really the best thing you can do. I have a few videos on the exercises that helped me get through it
Broke my ankle on dec 9th….this comment session made me feel a lot better❤️🥹
I hope you have a speedy recovery! Many people have gone through what you are experiencing right now. If you have any questions, just let me know!
Me on Dec 12th just got my plasta off
Broke mine the 10th. Almost walking hbu
@@AngelNdegwa how’s it feeling? Days before I got the the plaster off, I was 100% convinced that the cast was rubbing into my ankle. Once they took the cast off, it was just the hardware setting in… wasn’t fun.
@@Jackasskidz4 almost walking?! Let’s go! Make sure to strengthen the calf and the big toe
I broke my ankle and i finally got my cast off today but my legs hurt when I try to walk but there's no more break or a fracture and my mother is yelling at me for not being able to walk
Did you do any practice?Or did it hurt for you too?If u answer maybe I'll have something to explain 😔
Yeah that is totally normal. It has to do with the facia in the foot not being strong enough. It should go away in a week or so. But now that you are walking… make sure you stretch your big toe back. It will help you out a lot
I just started walking again today after having surgery in my right ankle. I tore a ligament and tendon.
This is my first time with an ankle i have do this for both my knees already. Its the same but different feeling.
How did it feel when trying to take that first step? I had to really think about and force it. The kill bill movie always comes to mind.
Broke my tibia over two months ago and it’s still not healed. Been eleven weeks and I finally just got moved to a boot and started physical therapy.
Everyone heals at their own pace. How’s your diet? Are you getting extra protein and vitamin d? I know when I was broken I made sure to have 10+ g of protein with every meal
I remember when I broke my ankle from falling down from a high drop, thing is I almost had my whole bottom part of my leg amputated, extremely lucky not to have it amputated, but the impact from the fall did make one leg slightly shorter than the other. We planned on having surgery, something about the growth plate on my left leg or something
Did you get surgery?
@@TheHealthyYinzer Sadly no, it's been a few years and I haven't been able to get the surgery, mainly because of complications with money and transportation. Which sucks because the slight height difference is being me pain in my hip and my shins, because of the extra pressure put on one leg
Im sort of the unhealthy yinzer. Go Stillers. I'm going through the same thing. Severe break in my ankle and broke a ton of bones in my foot. Learning to walk just like this.
Damn brother hope you are doing better! Did you have to get an external fixator?
Thankfully no
Broke my ankle on Oct 23 had surgery Nov 2 been able to put wait on my foot but to scared to walk.
In time. Make sure you are doing the ankle exercises! that way your body is strong enough to support the weight of walking
❤
I broke both my Tibia and Fibula in a car accident on Jan 16 '23😢. Im recovering so far and in a boot. My ankle is extremely stiff and I can only move it up or down but so much but its seeming to loosen up a bit each week.
After 8 weeks, my surgeon gave me the green light to put a little weight more n more each week (in the boot)... On 2 occasions I assume I must've dropped too much weight down because it felt like needles drove through my heel 🥴. I want to know, does that painful feeling ever go away? I know its still kind of early but thinking of that feeling makes me nervous to actually walk. Your video gives me hope ❤
I’m so sorry to hear this! I hope you are doing better. It definitely goes away after a few weeks. I went a little hard at first when I got clearance and I had the same feeling.
The main thing is trying to get back to normal. Have you looked at some of my other videos with the exercises I was doing? Circles, band abductions, abc, etc?
@@TheHealthyYinzer Thanks for responding 😊. And yes I have. They've been a big help along with my physical therapy. I'm now 12 weeks post op and able to walk using 1 or 2 crutches depending on my pain level. I've also been able to take a couple steps without them🙌🏽 but I'm taking it easy. I see my surgeon first week of May so hopefully I can go back to work soon.
Держись Парень😢😢
I have a distal fibula fracture since the 29th of January had my surgery on the 31st of February
Damn man hope you are feeling better! Any ligament damage?
Broke both my calcaneum by falling, I've external fixators on both my legs after surgery that will be removed by the end of this month post xray.
They have told me I'll be needing a cast after fixator removal for another 1.5 months.
When can I walk after that and when should I start my physio ?
Omg I am so sorry to hear that! I can’t imagine two external fixators! I can’t say specially when you’ll start walking but once you get cleared to do pt -start asap
Had a lower fibula break on my left foot. Happened while playing rugby. Walking again felt so weird but it quickly seems to come back. My calf is already normal size again. Hoping to play rugby again soon.
I broke my fibula and cracked my tibia a month ago doctors told me i cant walk that i have to wait 2 more month’s since i got surgery, im happy for you that you are walking already
Sorry to hear that! This video was when they said I could put weight on it for the first time. Man was it tough.
Same- I just started walking in a boot today and it hurts a lot. It's hard.😭
@@Plxgtr doctors just told me i can apply weight on it but i dont have all the flexibility as my other foot i got 2 plates and 8 screws and one big metal rod inside the fibula
@@TheHealthyYinzer did you get your flexibility? Or still really stiff?
@@cesarrodriguez-bd8ef at first really stiff! Lucky I practiced yoga so it was a little easier to come back from. If you are feeling stiff try stretching the big toe back. It helped me tremendously
I am watching this because i am gonna try walking soon 😂
You got this man!!!
Same thing in my foot I got cleared yesterday and I can finally play basketball but felt wired walking for the first time also after having to have surgery on it
Let me know how your cutting is? I was told by my doctors to not run for more than 10 min at a time. Unless I want arthritis at 40 lol
