Had torn ligament and damaged cartilage removal surgery almost 3 months ago. Wore air cast boot and on wheelchair (full off weight bearing) 2 weeks after surgery for 2 months off. Now off the boots and started strengthening physio. It still flares up and swollen when I do full weight bearing physio. Got myself a foot arch support and good shoes to help my recovery. It helps and still getting used to it. Daily light massages helps a lot with waste muscles and blood circulation. It's been a slow recovery for me and sometimes I do get frustrated especially when you're living alone in a walk up apartment. Need lots of patience and diligence during recovery.
I wish speedy recovery to those who are still recovering from surgery.

I had a left bimalleolar ankle fracture ORIF surgery and exactly at beginning of 5th week. I have that weird pain on the part where the screws are and when I try stretching, that rod and stiff feeling is exactly what I go through. My feet is very small so the moon boot given doesnt feel comfortable and always feel a bit loose or not at place. But looking at this video makes me feel maybe its my trauma anxiety and it will wear off.😅😊

For me it was a little bit over 8 weeks for me. I remembered first walking and even put a little weight on my left ankle and even using a walker to walk. I took a big step with my left ankle and a small one with my right ankle with using my walker. I wore the boot a little bit longer for support and security for my left ankle. I did weened off the boot during the month of July. I even had PT on that ankle from early May to the end of August. I was pretty good in walking during the month of August. I don’t wear high heels at all. I just wear mostly sneakers for my feet. I still have the scars on my left ankle even a plate and few screws are still on the ankle joint. That was over 10 years ago. I was in a wheelchair, too. I know how to used crutches because that I used them when I was 15 years old when I twisted my left knee in a bad fall back in February 1986. I do have 2 walkers to help me just in case that I hurt my knee or ankle. The last time that I hurt my knee it was over 3 years ago. It took a week to get back to normal. I used this one walker that my mother used to have before she passed away. She only used it for a very short time. It helped me quickly in walking when I hurt my left knee.

I will take that as a compliment, and I usually remain silent on this subject, but I want my male community to know that it can be done without any pharmaceutical help. Besides the fantasitic children I have raised, my other difficult and prideful accomplishment was to say no to this with both pressure during football and friends offering it to me for free. Just eat your meals 3 hours apart like our species was designed to do, good food, higher protien levels, and stay lean. From studies on mice to the simple data availble for all homo sapiens, hit the weights and find a way to do it consistently. And if possible, find a way to have fun doing it like this old science geek did.

@@DrRobertJMooreIII you're a good man! I'm 44, in great shape like yourself, but have been looking at TRT more and more post 40!
Here's another question - why, post-ORIF for malleolus fractures, uni, bi, tri), do all surgeons (worldwide) prescribe delayed weight bearing when the published research runs counter to this? Non union, fixation failure, etc are all extremely similar between early (or even immediate) weight bearing and delayed weight bearing. As I'm sure you know, the benefits of being able to continue to weight bear, even minimally, is huge. Happy to send details of the studies. Or take a look at the one currently running at Otago University Orthopaedics in NZ... I've been in correspondence with the CI of the study.

2 wks post op R ankle ORIF…I fell on it yesterday due to bad balance on the crutches. Told the surgeon today & he was only concerned with the stitches…if I took steps backwards with the fall yesterday would he have seen it upon examining my ankles? When they casted me I couldn’t bare to keep my foot flat & could only flex from the outside without sharp throbbing pain if I tried to flex the inner -mid part of my foot. Is this normal for 2 weeks out? This fracture was caused by my supinating foot on ice off of stairs for the context.

I broke both my ankles on December 8th. Day after you. But I broke both of mine. I had surgery and was in the hospital 8 days then went in to a rehabilitation center for 5 weeks. Was in a boot for 2 months and this past Thursday my surgeon told me I could wear my own shoes. Well if hurts more now than 2 weeks ago. I have no more pain meds.
The length of time depends on the type of breakage and if any of your muscles or tendients were involved. I've been watching many other vids on broken ankles. Good Luck to you !
