Can't thank you enough, I've watched this several times and finally got a little recording down! You are amazing! If you can teach this ol girl from the technically challenged generation, you deserve amazing!!
You and me girl. I get scared of anything technical. I actually bought a course on podcasting before watching this and I must say I learned some things I didn't learn from the other course. And Pat has a way of making things easier to understand. Editing my own podcast still scares me but I guess we'll eventually get used to it like they say. I wish I didn't have to bother myself with this technical side of things.

Great tutorial Pat! I'd like to add a tip for editing a podcast in Audacity. In the top right corner there is a small green button and right next to it you can adjust the playback speed. When editing I usually speed up the playback to 1.70x-1.80x. This allows me to speed up the playback while editing and saves me lots of time. Also this function does not alter your final file in any way and the software exports the file at regular speed.
This was exactly what I was looking for! I love how you get right to it and don't waste a ton of time just talking. My Audacity skill just got a huge boost. My podcast is much better off now! Thanks again!
I am blown away by how easy this was. I avoided doing my dream podcast because I thought I’d take a nasty mess to edit. Thank you so much!!!!! I owe you. :) so happy
I'm planning to create a podcast where I do overviews of my most favorite show, The X-files. I lnow there are a lot out there but i mostly want to do it for myself and if people love it, thats a bonus. I'm learning a lot from your videos.
I'm the same. Not x files but hoping to do three twenty minute pods a week. One just being a little bit of a moan or take on news. One about football (Manchester United) and a final one about retro raw(wrestling) review. All subjects that have many big podcasts about already but I just wanna give it a shot. I hope your podcast goes well. Point being who cares if there's loads out there, none are yours and it will be special for you. Best of luck and wishing you success.
Pat, thank you so much for all the work you do. You help thousands of people to push the envelope and overcome the fear of starting to act. Thank you!!
wow! thank you, you've made something that looks sooooo complicated seem sooooo simple, made my first podcast jingle yesterday and its gone down really well, thank you.
Thanks so much for this! We are new to recording although I used to be sound tech for a Vineyard church years ago. My husband will be recording for a radio show and your pointers are invaluable! Now to find a royalty free music clip and we'll be all set.
Pat, thank you so much for putting this tutorial out there! I have been procrastinating starting a podcast because the tech was overwhelming to me but you broke it all down in this mini series and made it super easy to so. I just recorded my first set of podcasts so thank you very much! :D
I learned more about Audacity in this 20 min video than I’ve learned just playing with it on my own over like 3 years! Thank you so much! I subscribed and when I’m ready I will take the 3 day class on your website! I’m excited to start my own show! Thanks again!
I just wanted to say Thank You for all the great tutorials. I'm not a computer guy but have been wanting to host a Podcast for the past couple years now and didn't know how to get started. Your videos have been extremely helpful
Watched this years ago and finally back as we've got the first three episodes of our podcast recorded so it's editing day! Thanks for this tutorial Pat, it's saved so much grief and swearing later!
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!!!!!!! This technology is far out of my area of expertise, yet a skill that is important to the growth of my small business. I have to do it on my own and am so thankful for your very clear instructions.
The Lady is the best in explaining Audacity. Somehow a male came on. I wanted the Lady because she explains everything simply to beginners. Thank you so much Ms.
what a great tutorial! I actually downloaded Audacity first, and then created an audio file, added music, right along with you as I watched your video in the other screen. Sounded good even with just my laptop mike. Just ordered the 2100 mike you recommended and accessories, and can't wait to get started podcasting.
Thank you Pat. I thought that podcasting was expensive and complicated to start. You have really made it easy to get started. Now I have no more excuses, lol.
Great video!! When I bring in music I always convert to mono. This is how I do my shows. It makes for a smaller file size. The file is saved in constant nitrate of 128 which is required by the station I work at. Audacity is great!!
Thank you so much! This was the first video that I watched, and I am so glad that I did! I can finally say that I at least know something!! Thank you once again
Amazing Pat. I remember you talking about installing a plug-in for Audacity to expand the number of effects and editing options that the program has. Can't recall what that was.
Thanks man you did helped me in my new podcasting editing using this open source tools. I am working harder to grow my in it before expending to other advance tools.
Thank you so much Pat! My Entertainment Journalism teacher has given the assignment of creating a podcast and this video has indeed helped a lot. Lots of love!
Thank you Pat! This saved me probably 5 hours if I tried finding out all this stuff on my own on audacity. Great content. I've subscribed to your channel now!
omg thank you so much, this is sooooo helpful. i had to make a podcast for my grade 10 geo project and this helped so much. i was very confused by the program and my teachers didn’t explain it very well
I never make comments on RUclips videos, but I had to make an exception for this. This was absolutely fantastic, thank you! I was ready to give up on my podcasting dreams because I struggled to understand Audacity, but you have made it so easy to use - thank you!!
@@patflynn I've run into a slight issue. Any time I go to save my Audacity project by hitting File > Save Project > Save Project As, I am getting a message that says "Save Project" is for an Audacity project, not an audio file. For an audio file that will open in other apps, use "Export" I uninstalled and reinstalled Audacity, but I'm getting the same message.
Hi Pat, I'm Kev from Thailand. I was perplexed by starting my own Podcast, so... lots of things to learn. This video just helped me shorten my research for answers. Thanks a lot! Happy New Year. Stay safe from COVID-19. :D
I sure wish I'd seen this video sooner! When I needed to move something to a different time, I've been inserting or deleting space within the track. That time shift tool will make things a lot easier! 😂
Your videos are perfect...you get to the point with unnecessary talk....well done😌will you pls recommend a place to access royalty free music? Thanks again
Hi Pat! Watched your podcast for the first time today and I subscribed!! Thanks to you I purchased the Audio Technica AT2020USB+ bundle to use for my podcasts. I should receive it by July 12th. I’m so excited!! Thank you!! Keep rocking!!!
Pat, I can't tell you how much I appreciate this tutorial. It was very practical and fast forwarded my learning on Audacity. I was over here dreading learning a new software and so have been avoiding it! Thanks to you, I can level up my podcast with little effort!
Pat, as always, a treasure trove of USEFUL info. Just got Audacity and I was a bit confused (that's putting it lightly!) on how to use the basic editing tools. Tks again for this GREAT video. Saludos!
This tutorial was very helpful in simplifying Audacity. One thing I'm still struggling with as a beginner is how to zero in and isolate a section of the WAV so I can listen to it several times, identify exactly what to delete or edit. When doing this, I have to use the pause or stop buttons, backup, go forward, listen again, etc. The thing I can't figure out is this: When I hit pause or stop, then hit play again, the playback jumps all the way back to the very beginning of the WAV, or it jumps to a spot I was editing previously. How to zero in on a specific section of the wave, pause and restart on the same section would be great. I know it probably a simple two clicks, but right now I can't figure it out. Thank you!
click where you want to start to play from then highlight a section and then start play - use space bar to toggle to pause & restart. That will only play the highlighted section.
Tip for using Levelator: If you have Intro/Outro music, first edit and export only the vocal track without the Intro/Outro and put it through the Levelator. Then add the Intro/Outro music to the vocal track from the Levelator and export in your desired format. If you export with the Intro/Outro music and then put it through the Levelator it might distort the sound of the music. Hope this helps.
