Under the hood here we have a brand new engine for this GT line.
Gone is the 2.0T base engine and replacing it is the same 2.5T you’ll get in the Genesis vehicles
This new engine brings over 50 more hp to 300 and 311 lbft
The added power is a welcome change, but this makes me even hungrier for the added power that the V6 brings
    Speaking of V6…enter the G70
What Paolo has here is the 3.3l ttv6 which packs 365hp and 376 lbft
It’s more power, but it’s only 65 more hp and 65 more torques
the 4 cylinder Stinger is using a single turbo and it’s pretty big so it takes a minute to generate boost pressure. The G70 is using twin turbos so it’s able to use smaller graduating turbos to build boost quicker and carry it longer
Now, that isn’t to say the Stinger here feels slow or dull, the power delivery is just a touch different
You’re relying more on the turbo to make power which means if you fall out of boost it’s going to feel neutered
Which is exactly why Sport mode does its best to keep you above 2500 or 3000 rpm at all times so that way when you get into the throttle, the car is ready to respond
The Genesis also gets a sport mode, both cars actually have essentially identical modes and they truly do alter the character of the car.
Throttle sharpness, steering heft, and in the Genesis you have adaptive dampers, so tailored back in comfort or eco the rebound rates are greater and the car is softer, but in Sport mode the dampers firm up and keep the chassis feeling confident
Mode for mode, the G70 just feels good step sharper
But with that we have to talk about the thing that’s really been the standout difference between these two cars: steering
This is one of the most noticeable differences between these two cars. In anything other thn Sport mode on the Stinger here the steering is completely numb and arguably too light and quick
When you dial it up to Sport mode the steering weights up, but that’s the majority of what it does. There’s some feeling under load, but I still don’t know exactly what my front tires are up to
Maybe a more aggressive set of tires would talk to me more through the rack, but then you have to go up to the GT1 or 2
The steering in the Genesis is MUCH better, and really very good full stop.
Even in comfort mode the weight feels much more appropriate for a sports sedan
And then dialed into Sport mode I have so much more confidence in the front end.
There’s a sense of sharpness and accuracy that I get from the steering and then the wheels translate more through the steering to give me a better idea of how close I am to the limit of grip
From tip in corner entry, to hold through mid-corner, and unwind on corner exit I have much more confidence in the car here in the Genesis
Now, at this point some of you have already left the comment “why is this idiot comparing a 4 cylinder RWD and a V6 AWD car, and they’re totally different prices” rabble rabble rabble
And you’re not wrong, but what we’re doing here is showcasing how capable and good these korean sports sedans are and how you graduate through the lineup depending on your budget.
Both have a great RWD chassis architecture that’s really dialed in and genuinely goes toe to toe with more expensive sport sedans from Europe, but with that, let’s talk about styling
The G70 is previous gen now
Still looks great, IMO - Paolo has done a thorough chrome delete
But you get real 3 series vibes from this thing
    Long hood
    Compact cabin, hoffmeister kink
    Brembo brakes (red)
The rear is simple and elegant
The Stinger is much more in your face
Looks lower and wider and arguably more aggressive with new headlights
    Long hood, fake vents
    Smaller 18 inch wheels
From profile this thing is clearly longer even with black chrome distractions
    Sloped roof for liftback
Back end is updated as well and has quad exhaust (sounds weak)
Then starting inside the Stinger, again we go into much more detail in the standalone review so I’m gunna keep it high level here
The Stinger gives you all the features you want, ticks all the boxes
    Car Play
    Big touchscreen
    Heated seats, leather, etc.
Bu there are signs that this is the base trim of the non-luxury brand of the company
    The design isn’t as high-end
Someof the materials aren’t as good, even the leathers and a lot of that just comes with the territoryand being a Kia vs a Genesis
The GT Line though is lacking a couple things that I look for like
    Wireless car play
    Cooled seats
    Pano roof
    Digital cluster
    HUD

My first car was a 95 Hyundai Accent to see how far this company has come in such a short time is crazy to me. Both these cars are good looking and look fun to drive

Why would you compare the 4-cylinder stinger against the six-cylinder Genesis when there is a 4-cylinder Genesis. That honestly deserves to be compared with the stinger since its closer to the same price point
