Wtf. Why is this the best video on the ashtray maze? I been scrubbing all of them to find the cleanest one to show someone, and they're all just people running against the walls and spamming TK. No intent to show the level off at all. Then this one starts with some 2003 Windows Movie Maker vibe and I'm about to write it off, and this guy is slow walking, getting the right angles of the room, using varied powers in a cinematic way, keeping the enemies in view... this is great stuff! Perfect showcase, be proud!
I love that not only the Old Gods of Asgard are possibly parautilitarian artists but possibly the reincarnations of the actual old gods of asgard who also controlled the ashtray maze to help Jesse make it through without much hiss interruption because they inhabited the oldest house from a long time ago.

This is literally one of the best levels that I have played in any video game. Specially with earphones. I will never forget this level and that song, my God that song is so fitting for this level. Amazing bloody game. Just bloody brilliant. Bravo!
But what makes it so amazing? I haven't played Control yet, and to me it seems like any other encounter in the game. It seems that the only thing that people praise about it is the soundtrack, so if I were to take that away, would people still love it? Genuine question
Love this part The whole game I was walking slowly, being afraid of enemies. And the building being beautiful and creepy at the same time, makes me feel like I am in a horror game BUT When I heard "Take Control" with guitar plays in the background, I just ran at full speed at everything. Wish I can play this part again without overwrite my save.
@Khoa Nam I'm a year late here, but in case you never found out: you *can* replay it without restarting the game. One of the DLC adds two "arcade machines" that you can use to replay certain segments of the game, one of them being the Ashtray Maze.
Wish I could play this part again with the part being erased from my memory before. Very few moments are THIS fantastic. The first metal gear in metal gear rising is on par with this for example.
This was such a fantastic experience. Also, I exited the maze just as the song ended, and directly after, Jesse exclaimed "That was awesome!", which is the exact same sentence that went through my head.
The sound engineering here is on another level. There are subtle tricks used to make you think you are syncing with the song. But in reality, the song is syncing with your progress. Everything you hear, at each stage of the level, is carefully designed for you to hear a specific part of the track. As you make your way out of the maze, the song ends, just as it's intended to....every, single, time.
You're timing fits the song so well I was starting wonder if it stayed on a small loop until you enter the next room. I've already watched it 5 times. So damn good.
Efforts are futile trying to convey the absolute baddassery of this segment. From the shifting psychedelic interior design, balanced enemy placement to the amazing work of musical art brought to perfection by its pacing throughout the level. Upon finishing, one only stops and stares blankly at the screen enveloped in a god-like state of invincibility and euphoria, trying to make sense of what just happened using the fragments of ones blown mind. Truly a masterpiece.
This was easily one of the best video game levels I’ve ever played in a game. When Jesse put on those headphone’s I was not expecting this kind of music. Made everything next level.
One of the best, most epic, and artistic moments in video game history, period, full stop! And I'm saying this after having played a particular level in Alan Wake 2, which is also on this level of genius.

every time i see those spheres, im like, "I don't care if there are 25 of those rocket launching, minigun toting, grenade tossing heavies, that healing shit is going down first"
This was absolutely my best favorite section in Control. It was beautifully well done and the song fits perfectly with the maze. (Plus I died a couple times in that section. But that didn't stop me from liking this awesome maze)
Literally just played that part and i immediately came here on yt to search for the band. I came across your video and, like almost anyone here says, that was hands down one the best gaming experiences i've ever had. How they managed to fit the song so perfectly while you progress the level really amazes me. I wish more gaming companies were as talented and cool as Remedy 😁
Maxed out Launch 1-hit kills even shielded enemies. Only heavies and bosses take few hits. Game is a total breeze and fun to boot with maxed launch. You can tear large objects and kill multiple enemies, even heavy enemies with it.
Good to know. Been getting smashed on the last couple levels. Maze took a few tries & gave up on the post credit platform part. Died about 10 times on the 3rd platform to the invisible screamers. I went for mind control cause I wanted the red heal spheres but they die to fast & nothing follows into the next area. Launch is only half finished so need change it up.
Okay so I had this game for while and completely ignored it. Now with Alan Wake Remastered coming I found out that both games are connected and I feel the urge to play this. Just to hear these guys again ahhaha Awesome
One of the best experiences I've ever had playing videogames. Remedy is so awesome and they pour so much heart and care into their games.
