The best part is how they somehow made the song go along with you, it's one of those incredible multilayered music tracks that responds to the player. I walked through the entire maze and only moved faster to dodge/flank enemies during the fights, and the song's lyrics only showed up during the fights, with some really cool seamless transitions between those and the corridor sections. So amazing!!!

I also love how Poets of the Fall wrote the lyrics based on the game's story too. It reminds me of when Cold wrote "In My Mind" for the Psi-Ops games.

They did something in this level and in We Sing from Alan Wake 2 , that is just so amazing. The song loops on an instrumental verse section or bridge until the player catches up , and then the song loads the next lyric track at the perfect time, without you ever realizing the song is as long or as short as you the player need it to be. That is pretty damn amazing!!

So let me get this straight. The maze is an OoP that should literally be unsolvable for anyone except the user and someone the user gives permission. And Jesse never bound the ash tray so she tamed the maze through her own willpower. Awesome! It’s like the Oldest House itself is an ally!

Honestly, OOP's seem to have personality. The FBC is generally very cold and analytical, with a predisposition towards researching with cold objective logic. Like the maze. It keeps out anyone but those the binder gives permission.
But I don't think thats ENTIRELY accurate. That is to say, I don't think 'the binder and those the binder gives permission' is the only way to navigate the maze.
I think the maze really likes this song, so it's like 'OH hell yeah c'mon through if I get to feel that!' The way the maze doesn't just have a predetermined path that opens statically, but still shifts and warps around you throughout the experience... I think the maze is dancing to your music.

While I consider this game very good it's not god-tier by any means overall. However this section of the game was one of the best moments ever in video gaming for me. I have not grinned harder for 5 minutes straight during any game I have played in recent memory. The music and graphics, the physics, the maze, the fact that it seamlessly directs you through it and threw lots of baddies at you but removed most of the challenge in a good way to ensure nothing about it would be frustrating or tedious. It was just a bad ass gauntlet of you flying around punishing evil with superhuman powers, loads of explosions tastefully placed throughout the jam session of awesome. It is a perfect convergence of all of the games strengths they are surely proud of and they have every right to be.

Notice how the song doesn't have any instructions on how to solve the maze. What makes the difference for Jesse is that it's a song about her where she is told that her special powers doesn't come from Solaris or any other entity - It is all her! She just needs to realize it and believe in herself.

When I first played with this game, especially the Ashtray Maze mission I wondered what song will be playing from Ahti's walkman. Then I reached the point where the song is being triggered and I said in the first 1,5 seconds: who who who this will be better with my headphones on. So I backed up, put my headphones on, volume halfway... from my gaming experience this 8-10 minutes was just awesome. Just as Jesse said in the end. Me as well when I reached the end of the maze.

(Kinda long comment but I'm basically speaking about interesting aspects of Control and, what's important for me, asking for recommendations of games, books, movies etc that reminded you in some ways of Control because I'm in post-game withdrawal. It's serious and maybe life/psyche-threatening, especially psyche. A good TV series like Legion would be more than welcome! But first...)
Excellent bunch of comments! I was shocked when I found out the number of people complaining about the map. It's just The Oldest House doing its thing, haha, well. I think developers and concept artists + level artists did a great job reminding you to look up names of the sector on walls etc. I can't remember when I played like this (without mods disabling UI etc, generally making the game more hardcore) and had so much fun in the last few years! In adventure games, I used to write down tips etc in my notebook but in an action-rpg? Well, that's something new. Reminds me of making maps as a Game Master in traditional Pen 'n Paper sessions...You can't forget that, just like Jesse, you are supposed to be in a constant fight-or-flight mode, confused and shocked when everything around you changes, you too.
And aesthetics? It's BRILLANT. Dark and dreamy at the same time, a little bit nightmarish, just like those dreams that start quite normal but you can FEEL there' something going on that's not right and you can't wrap your mind about it. This feeling is CONTROL in a nutshell TBH. ;) This game makes use of an effect known as "uncanny valley" (google it, there are a lot of examples) to a great extent plus Jesse's face was a great choice when it comes to mapping and atmosphere.
    (Asymmetrical Suit FTW!)
Speaking of levels/sectors...I love brutalism and generally architecture and sometimes I just have fun with levitating for a good hour or two and take some pretty screenshots. The Colour palette is also very well done, reminds me of Twin Peaks and sometimes Fargo, great shows and classics, too. It's also worth taking it slow and reading all notes, other collectables but that's pretty obvious. Less obvious are other signs (not those like "PARAPSYCHOLOGY ---> ELEVATOR

this bit of the game had me in its grip. it's far enough in the game that your abilities are evolved enough to enjoy the combat and the music complements the gameplay of this bit (the intro with the shifting walls, the slow part when you levitate down, the kickass fast paced parts in tune with the combat). Remedy has a habit of doing this. see the Alan Wake fight on the scene of the Old Gods of Asgard farm. awesome design.

I watched this till the end just to see how the track ends. In my case I somehow exited the maze just in the right moment for the song to end. In this case the run was quick and the track couldn't finish but they made it fade and ended in the singer shouting "Control". I'm amazed by this attention to detail. The devs made sure that the song ended right on every situation.

Then I got the hover power and on a dime I went from old school RE, to Ratchet and Clank, flipping around like a spider monkey on speed. The maze just confirmed that that’s how this game was meant to be played.
