My brain honestly accepts the dynamic island over the notch. Something about having the image continue around the entire phone instead of being disconnected from the notch allows me to ignore the new design more and make it feel more natural

    • @-ThatGuy-
      @-ThatGuy- 2 года назад +14

It's the same reason I like the cut out on S21. It's a weird psychological thing. Even though the pixels above the cut out aren't useful it looks nicer to have the image wrap around it and makes the screen feel more immersive.

Yeah I didn't ever think Id like the cutout. I got the IPhone 11 pro from my job, and It was a really Nice phone, with a great Camera setup. Nice all around. My personal device was always a Galaxy Note though (I use my S pen for everything lol) and I had the 512gb Note 9 that I loved forever. It was a perfect phone for me. I resisted the upgrade to the 10 because the 9 was perfect. I FINALLY upgraded to the S22 ultra and the hole punch disappears when I use it because like you said, the image goes around it. I like it way better than the notch.

If Apple had the option to place USB C on the iphone or hold off on replacing the iphone port as long as possible to continue amassing royalties from third party manufactures from their lightning patent, I think they would choose the latter.

To me that's the best description of why I don't like the Island.
It being something you constantly interact with and is constantly changing form and drawing your attention makes it so you're always aware that it's there, while with the Notch, you just got used to that being how the phone looks and you forgot that it was there, not to mention watching full screen content, although not great with the notch, is MUCH better than with that huge pill + the no man's land of pixels next to it.

One benefit of e-sim is phones that have upgradable storage won't have to use double-depth trays to accommodate both sim and memory card, and for those that _don't_ have upgradable storage they could potentially now add it by replacing the sim tray with a memory card tray/reader. If they don't mind not having that space freed up.

I only had 64GB of storage, which was limited, the battery life was disappointing, and I just kept on having really random issues with the device overheating, the phone saying there was liquid in my charging port when it was nowhere near liquid, it just became a hassle, so having a new phone that remedies these issues feels nice, and the battery had been phenomenal for me so far. Removing the SIM is a big hack, back home in South Africa carriers charge roughly 2 dollars every month for the priviledge of using an esim device - there's literally no reason other than "you have no choice but to constantly subscribe to us or your device won't work"
Maybe someone can come up with a device that relays carrier networks to your phone and can you can add physical Sims to that device, I'm already carrying a power bank, why not integrate that kinda functionality into it as well?
Would also be super helpful as a person who travels to be able to keep all my different country Sims in one device and easily switch between carriers with the tap of a button (which is the dream of esim but the current implementation is greedy and trash)

The chance that we're getting a port-less iPhone are very slim tbh, because it's gonna cost them and their users a lot of money:
    1. All new phones will be forced into Qi charging, meaning slower charging speeds, worse battery longevity and increase in battery waste.
    2. Big changes to their Repair shops, that will need wireless ways to boot the phone into recovery and push images or commands wirelessly, unless they add a debug port on the motherboard.
    3. A lot of people will be cut out of CarPlay, unless they start selling an official Qi charging dongle that does wireless CarPlay to convert any old car dash that doesn't support it.

When it comes to the esim, I switch my phone out to my Samsung and or older iPhone depending on what I'm doing. I do travel between Canada and US often and depending on if my phone needs a clean before crossing, I'll pull the sim and put it in my other iphone\samsung. My Samsung does dual sim, so if traveling I have both in at the same time and don't need to worry about figuring out where to enter my esim information.
A sim card has it's issues, but going purely digital has more cons than pros. Especially when it comes to locking down a phone, especially with some older phones I still use when I want to change it up. I'll throw a sim in and go. Why? Because I can. Apple may be a 'trend setter' of sorts, but I'm still not ok with no headphone jack and removing the sim, IMO, is stupid. We want more control over our phones, not giving them more control over our phones.
As for the 14. I'll stick with my 13 pro max and still rocking my s10. The 14 is what matt said, an S, not a new gen. Very stupid of apple to call the 14 new.

The reason I’ve been a diehard android fan since the droid 2 is because of features and an understanding of what customers want. iPhone has slowly been making their way there catching up to android. Better cameras, better customization. 120htz screens. 4k video you can watch in full quality on your device. The ability to change your preferences to not track you or use parts of your device without your knowledge. The ability to use wireless pay in more places (there is no argument Samsung pay works on machines that don’t even have wireless pay and Apple Pay requires compatibility). All that being said, this generation of iPhone is the best iteration of any phone they have ever made. Apples biggest problem is pretending software can compete with hardware but now that their hardware is catching up its a compelling choice. For the first time ever I’m debating on selling my android and fully switching back to iPhone. My fold 3 is cool but my iPhone 14 pro has great battery life, and the ecosystem is what I’ve always wanted from my phone. A wireless battery pack I can just put on the back of the phone and fully integrated wireless headphones

It's very odd, all Mac have thunderbolt ports while iPhone still have crappy lightning connector. Why?🤔
It's known to all that Lightning cables transfer data at USB 2.0 speed, which is 480Mbps/60MBps while USB-C can handle USB 3.0 speed, with transfer speeds as fast as 5Gbps/640MBps (USB 3.1 Gen 1), or 10Gbps (USB 3.1 Gen2), and Thunderbolt 3, the superset of USB-C, is capable of 40Gbps.
So why Apple is giving crap connector on iPhones? think about it.

I just got the iPhone 14 pro max and hate it, I’m going back to my 11 pro max, unfortunately can’t return it and can’t get my 10s max trade in back so it will just go into a drawer for 18 months until I can trade it in. I’m not a fan of the camera on the 14 pro max at all, blurry, and very disappointing.

ESIM for me, somebody who uses prepaid, was a tough move. I reached out to AT&T to have my current sim converted to an eSIM before I got the 14. I thought that everything would be smooth sailing after that, and that I could just transfer it over to my new phone at setup, but it still required another phone call to AT&T and another 30 minutes of waiting on the phone for them to do it manually.
Was it the worst experience? No. Is it going to be annoying if I have to upgrade in the future?Yes.

I stopped buying iPhone after iPhone 10. There is no reason not to USB C besides filling their pockets. They had no concerns about accessories when they switched to lighting. You bet your ass if they owned USB C, they would have used it a long time ago. My job involves allot of last minute in the field and if I am low on battery, I then need to find a store with lighting which is allot harder and more costly then a USB C.

I kinda agree, dynamic island is a gimmick like Siri was at launch. Watching landscape video takes more space than the notch ever did. Transfer speeds are still abysmal at USB 2.0 speeds which makes shooting at full 48mp garbage and useless to transfer.

3:01 You're partly right. The prime reason Apple introduced Face ID is planned obselcence. Touch ID was already a perfected technogoly and could easily be implemented into the power button.
    That is to say:
    1. the logical conclusion to the iPhone is an all screen iPhone.
    2. We already have the technology for an all screen iPhone.
    3. Apple will continue to release phones with increasingly smaller "notches/islands"
When in reality we could have gotten a full screen iPhone with Touch ID as early as the iPhone X.

I’ve had a lot of phones, I had a iphone 4 then 5, then had android ( moto g4 pro, HUAWEI p20pro), then iPhone X and now i just got a 12 pro. On my experience buying the latest iPhones is never a good idea, cause a lot of my friends which do always have a lot of issues until half a year afterwards it’s release, also a port less iPhone would be a no go for me. Mag safe sucks. And data transfer thru lighting port sucks ass well 😂. I think they should go usb C. Better faster stronger. Simless iPhones would be a trouble for travelers.

so for myself I'm upgrading from the iPhone 11 non Pro to a 14 Pro and it's gonna be a big bump in power, resolution and camera. Those for me are worthwhile upgrades. I don't see it being worthwhile if you have a 12 Pro or especially as 13 Pro but I don't see much benefit in upgrading a phone every single year. You get minimalist gains vs if you wait 2-3years before upgrading and given the price difference between the 13 Pro and 14 Pro is $100 I might as well get the newest tech available and hope it lasts longer not to mention if I was to get the 13 Pro why wouldn't I instead save $100 on top of that and simply get the regular 14 since it's the same chip and everything. I don't see much of an argument for those upgrading from older gens to get the previous years model instead of just getting the newest. If the price difference was greater I would definitely give it more thought but there isn't a lot of incentive to get last years model right now imo.

    • @darkhaven9119
      @darkhaven9119 2 года назад

The 13 pro still has 120hz and the regular 14 doesn’t and it has a triple camera setup while the 14 only has a dual camera. Also there’s no 1tb model or pro raw photos on the regular 14. So either get the 14 pro or save and get the 13 pro or wait for the 15 pro so you get usb c also and even better battery life

I recall Tech TikTok account pointing out that if Apple can do esim only in US then what's stopping them from doing USB-C only in the EU and lightning everywhere else. I'm thinking the implications of designing two different PCBs or whatever they need to do would make it not worth it.

I keep hitting on the universally acclaimed iPhones. 11 Pro for amazing cameras and battery life, skipped the 12 Pro for crappy battery, went to 13 Pro for amazing battery life & cameras and am skipping the 14 Pro altogether. Can’t wait for the 15 Pro with USB-C & Periscoping camera and fantastic battery life, even with AOD enabled.

Because the battery percentage to battery percentage drains a crap ton. I’ve tested the sound of multiple Samsung devices in multiple iPhones, and once you turn off battery percentage on any other devices and turn off always on display if you turn both of those things off on all alarms multiple devices, you can easily get an extra hour or two of my screen time. Believe me I’ve done it And it works. I’ve also tested it with both of those things on on both devices with multiple android and iPhones just in general and you know what it actually last longer if you turn off battery percentage along with always on display trust me, I was able to get up to 10 hours with both of a man and when you turn one of them off like the always on display you can squeeze out 11 hours and if you turn off battery percentage, you can get to 12 hours on a pro max or more if you’re lucky especially if your brightness is literally 20% or below you can literally get up to 12 hours or longer on any pro or promax iPhone or just in general any iPhone anywhere from the iPhone 11 to 14 including the pro versions of those phones, even android phones as well. If you turn off battery percentage and always on display, you can get a massive for extra hours, at least the battery life as well as on the iPhones every phone it’s just common sense battery percentage, and always on display drain battery so if you were getting say, I don’t know eight hours on your phone. If you turn both of those off it Hass to be both it doesn’t matter if you have one or the other on it still gonna drain half of what you had draining, but if you turn them both off, then you can easily get anywhere from 8 to 12 hours instead of anywhere from 8 to 10 hours so you get an extra two hours of battery life or I guess for hours if they’re both off
