    Alright! I received my CM3 just yesterday! What an awesome way to end this shitty 2020! I wasn't expecting it to arrive so soon.
    This throttle is the real deal people. It gives me no less than 79 buttons, and 4 additional axis in addition to the dual throttle! Absolutely amazing how many functions I can now map directly at my fingertips. The detents work great and are a welcome addition given that I also play DCS. Everything is super easy to configure. Would buy again: YES!

    For DCS I want module offer two things.
    1) a custom axis position where player can set the idle and afterburner detents position if having Throttle with physical detents.
    2) have a virtual detent like hornet does, press a button to be able "push through" detent regardless physical throttle detents or axis past mil power/idle.
    I take software version any time over hardware if I can not tell to the simulator that where my throttle detents positions are in Axis like it is in Falcon 4 / BMS. There you move throttle to position on axis and click in axis configuration panel "This is afterburner detent" and you get green and red lines symbolize their position.

    • @GuyFromJupiter
      @GuyFromJupiter 2 года назад

      The F/A-18 and F-16 I know have button bindings that correspond to physical detents, though I think the name of them is a little unintuitive. In Virpil's software you can set up virtual buttons to trigger whenever you pass your detents, and then bind those virtual buttons to the detent inputs in DCS.

    • @paristo
      @paristo 2 года назад

      @@GuyFromJupiter You are correct that you can select those detent / elevator bindings (Idle/Off & Afterburner Detent in F-16, Throttle Finger Lift in F/A-18) that needs to be pressed to overcome in DCS. But that is just a ugly way as it doesn't allow accurate control of the range.
      It really isn't difficult to program the logic that asks player to move the throttle to each physical detent position and then mark it as axis position where it will be.
      Example, move throttle to Off position and press "Off".
      Move throttle to "Idle" position and press "Idle".
      Move throttle to Full MIL and press "MIL".
      Move throttle past the AB detent and press "Afterburner".
      Move throttle to corresponding afterburner sections (ie. Viggen) or end of full scale and select "Full Afterburner".
      Just moving throttle would show the red box moving in the input box and then mark a corresponding detent position when pressing button in config window.
      It wouldn't matter where is the physical detent, you can have it same for everything, on every throttle etc.

It’s usually not as big of a deal (versus DCS jets) whether you pass a certain throttle point, but I’ve blown quite a few engines after running too high during combat and not noticing. I just got one recently, and there are only a few changes I would make.
    1. Make the detents tool less and quick changeable. I use a warthog bottom detent and aerobatic top detent for DCS, but that is basically useless if I want to use it in SC, and changing the detents is just too troublesome to bother with.
    2. Make the hat switches gated. They are high quality, but though I haven't personally found them to be troublesome I have heard from others that they hit the wrong directions in them frequently, which I believe is a valid issue.
    3. Change the rotary encoders on the throttles themselves into axes. Oftentimes the things I want to use the encoders for just don't support them correctly, and they would really work better as axes.
    4. Make some of the switches on the base swappable. It would be nice to be able to change out the switches on the base from 3 position momentary to maintained at times. This one's a bit nit picky, but it would be much appreciated.
    None of these are huge issues, and overall I'm very happy with the product I got. For their next iteration though I think some of these changes would be pretty nice (not that I'll be spending the money on one though!).

    I have the first and second T-50 throttles. The second I am using now as part of my Star Citizen HOTAS rig. I was very disappointed in the deletion of the detent from gen 1 to gen 2, but it is still a great throttle. I am a Virpil fan. I skipped CM2 because of the lack of a detent. I placed some visual markings on my throttle to indicate the center neutral thrust point, as that is critical for maneuvering, but it's still a pain to have to look down at the throttle to verify. As soon as I saw the CM3 included a detent, and a very customizable one at that, I dropped a pre-order. This will be my new Star Citizen throttle. I use a HOTAS setup, because as an IRL pilot, it's just how I roll. Thanks for the video Noob! As always, you are the tip of the spear when it comes to new sim hardware.

    5:00 Regarding the Star Citizen "CosmoSim" detent - what I found this to be more useful, in my opinion, was not relating to SCM vs afterburner but 50% "full stop." As Star Citizen's use of HOTAS allows for full forward and full backward thrusts, finding that full stop middle was always difficult when using my X-56 Rhino. My way around that, using the X-56, was to increase my dead zone in the middle and also turn down the thrust limiter to 0% - this was especially necessary when being scanned by the Space Police. The slightest touch on my X-56 and I was suddenly a fugitive from the law.
    With the VPC CM3, and the centered "CosmoSim" detent; I will now be able to easily feel my full stop 50% location without having to adjust my thrust limiter or increasing my throttle dead zone.

    With the amount that I have just paid for the CM2, I would think they would offer CM2 owners a detent upgrade for a ressonable price.
    I have thought about getting another joystick in addition to the one that I already have, in order to use 2 x joysticks for space sims, but now I feel that with this new throttle it shows me that Virpl could have sorted out the detent issue of the CM2.
    I will no longer buy another vipl product until they sort this issue out. there is no way I could justify buying a whole new thrtottle.

Now I'm SOOOO glad I didn't get a CM2 or waited for a CM3. We don't need a separate button box. We can adjust our detents to our exact needs too. We could 3D print something and add it like they did with the CM3 what Troll is doing:

    +BrianMP5T *Thanks for the preview of the VIRPIL® MongoosT-50CM3® engine quadrant.* For a preliminary execution of a V-FX™ Throttle Quadrant, I'd include the Warthog idle and Classic+ MIL detents with the MT-50CM-series grips, plus two auxiliary levers in the base, viz., the Flaps to the left and the Sweep O'Ride to the right, reflecting the actual control placement in the Grumman (USA) G-303. The Classic+ MIL detent looks further modifiable to reflect engine execution on various older types in Eagle Dynamics DCS:World, e.g. four push-throughs past the MIL hard stop for on/off afterburner zone valving (General Electric J79, Pratt & Whitney TF30, Allison TF41).
    The MongoosT-50CM2® would be better for helicopter and spacecraft simpits, excepting a sim for any Bell Helicopter Textron (USA) twin-engine, which has condition twist-grips on the collective arm rather than levers on a separate engine panel (as executed by Lockheed Sikorsky (USA), Airbus Roteurs (FRA), OKB Milja (RUS), BAe Westland (GBR), OKB Kamova (RUS), &c.).

    I'm curious what you think about Virpil's decision to use plastic detents instead of metal, I suspect they will wear faster over time. For DCS there is a trick for getting around the need for the detente using a CM2. You can set the throttle to only go to just before AFB, then set one of the little red switches between the throttle and flap levers to
    give you the rest of the throttle and allow you into AFB mode.
    In SC, if I weren't using car pedals for forward, reverse and brakes; I'd use the same trick for forward and reverse movement toggling.
    I say all of this as I just got my CM2 6 weeks ago. And while this is the sort of solution I envisioned for the detente issue, I dont think it's an issue. I do like the longer throw on the throttle, it would make the minute movements required for refueling in DCS easier. But regardless, this area the CM shines even without the longer throw as its ease of movement is amazing.
    The downside of this is if you DO play multiple games that require detentes, swapping between detentes, then having to tune the detente based on in game "finding" the right spot and screwing it down would get tiresome to most I think. If I hadn't found the trick with flipping a switch to go into AFB, I'd want this regardless.
    Great video as always, thanks for helping us learn about all the tech toys for us to play with! I watch a bunch of DCS videos, and I'm starting to hear DCS guys and content makers say they watch your videos as their preferred source of tech reviews as well, so congrats on growing your audience and hitting 60k!

      how does the red switch work more specifically? like do you push the throttle all the way till it won't go any further and then flip red switch,,,i'm not sure what you mean and how do you know when to stop if you can see your throttle position on the screen while flying 400 knots in enemy territory?

    • @fubarace1027
      @fubarace1027 3 года назад

      @@harpoon_bakery162 So the way it works for me in game is this. I use the T2 switch as a toggle for AFB mode, T2 is the switch immediately to the right of the throttles themselves. When that toggle is off, my throttle is limited to 80% max of its normal range; so it ranges from 1% to 80% of max throttle. Not physically, but how the game sees my device. When I switch the toggle on, the throttle in game now has the full 100% range of motion and AFBs will kick on once you pass the 80% throttle mark.
      The net effect of this is to limit access to your AFBs to when that toggle is switched on. It's a useful trick, and one that once you recognize how it works, you start to see other things you can use this with in other games.
      This is a RUclips video to explain to you how to do it, he's a bit long winded, but he is thorough in his explanations and he's explained what you need to know by the 7 minute mark. ruclips.net/video/Hs18EfOlb6U/видео.html

      Left handed sticks are mainly for space sim users though, not for southpaws. These throttles are mainly for very realistic sims like DCS, and real fighters always have throttles on the left.
