Superman 3 is a masterpiece. Ah, hang on, I’m just comparing it to number 4. Still though…it is worth watching for Kent vs evil Supes!! Reeve played that perfectly.

I went to see Return of the Jedi at the theater, and noticed Superman III was also playing as well, wishing I could have seen it then also..
I mean, OK, I can see how much there is to dislike about Superman III but I always loved it. Vera becoming a cyborg haunted me as a kid, and Robert Vaughan does a good job despite what he is presented with. Even Lorelei Ambrosia has some potential, since her ditzy blonde persona is shown to be a cover, albeit only very briefly shown in one scene. But OK, also in the scene were Vera tries to confuse her in the supercomputer and Lorelei simply says "In other words: push this red button." And it has Annette O'Toole as Lana Lang, I mean, c'mon! So, yes, I do like the movie but hearing about the original Salkind plans for Superman 3 and 4 also sounded interesting. I think the El family are Kryptonian nobility so them being a bit distant cousins wouldn't be too weird, all things considered. But yeah, thanks, JoBlo!
It's better than 4 and at least there's a different villian situation. All of these movies are pretty light and have very family friendly feel. The Bizarro rendition is actually quite well done for what they had to work with.
I never understood why they cut Pamela Stevenson's line "It's a computer". It added a bit of depth to her character and her quick "I mean, a hairdryer" was a good turnaround.

While this movie was an utter disaster, because of those evil Superman moments, Christopher Reeve managed to effectively portray nearly the entire human spectrum in just these three Superman movies!
Known as one of the first movies to have too much studio interference , during the 70s Directors and the rest of the creative team were left alone to make a film.
The situation with Kidder is emblematic of the problem with Lois. You either make her the full on love interest, like with Snyder, and the various TV shows, or keep up will they/won't they, along with will she find out Superman is Clark (if they maintain that idea) and that just doesn't last. Also, I don't know why Kidder was cast initially, because in the mid- to late 70s she did exude a certain sex appeal, (See Amityville Horror) but she seemed to age really quickly and almost seemed forgotten with the swap for Lana Lang. Man, why'd they have to give Lois and Lana alliterative names with the same letter? 😂
I think a much bigger problem with Lois is that more often than not, she's portrayed as a selfish, backstabbing, emotionally and verbally abusive woman who gets held up as an empowering feminist figure. The Superman comic books have especially been notorious for doing this on and off since the 1990s (especially during Lois and Clark's engagement and later marriage), blowing off legitimate criticism as sexist backlash even when it's women making the complaints. When you go out of your way to make Lois a meanspirited and unsympathetic character and expect people to think she's a great role model, it completely invalidates her as a love interest. There's a reason why the fandom splintered to the point where Lana Lang and Wonder Woman have gained traction as alternate lovers for Superman: Lois was made so toxic that fans wanted other options.
@@reidmason2551 Yes, very true. In the Reeve films, there's very little about Lois that is likeable and I wonder why Clark/Superman would even be attracted to her. She seems selfish, only interested in winning that Pulitzer Prize that constantly eludes her, and thinking that being assigned to investigating Niagara Falls honeymoon scams while pretending to be Clark's bride is beneath her. She talks about squeezing oranges for health while dangling a cigarette out of her mouth. I really do wonder what kind of image they are trying to present with Lois.
One of my favorite movies. I love Richard Pryor and computers and the movie really got me into thinking I'd be a computer programmer and that is my career since 1996.
7:40 Considering how successful and well-received the Deadpool movies are, I wonder how a stand-alone Rated R Superman film would have been received back in the early 1980's. (I was just a little boy back at that time, so I don't remember how well R rated movies did back then.) While definately being a gamble for it's time, it would have allowed Richard Pryor to go full force in his preformance. Obviously, many parents at the time would have been outspoken about the idea: "This is supposed to be a family movie." To address this, the marketing group would need to be up front with the matter: "The previous two films are designed to be enjoyed by children, families, as well as adults. This isn't a sequel to those films. This new film is a stand-alone adventure that is meant for the grown-up audiances who want to see Superman handle complex matters that would not be possible to portray in a PG-rated movie."
Superman 3 was my favourite. The mass hae baffles me. I can understand preferring the original, but 2 was the worst of the 3 in my book. Wha do you mean 4? There were only 3.
Like many who commented about this video, I love this movie when I was a kid. This was the movie that got me started to watch more movies with Richard and his standup comedy shows. Clark vs. Evil Superman junkyard fight scene is still the best!! Superman 3 will always have a place to my heart...no matter what people say negative about this movie
I feel like my feet has been filled with Superman III videos lately which is weird! And that was before I started watching them in the algorithm did start serving them up to me!
Might I add that Christopher Reeve was probably in the best physical shape for this film. The color of the suit was beautiful too as it was more teal than blue.
Things were weird in the '80s. There was often a mix of camp with horror or drama. We took things seriously, sometimes, but also refused to take the same thing seriously at other times. I was 13 when this came out, and I got about what I expected: a sometimes silly, sometimes surreal blending of Richard Pryor with Superman. It's up to the viewer, but viewing any other decade through the lens of the current culture is not advisable.
S-III is no doubt flawed, but the junk yard fight felt lore defining and the cyborg conversion was downright sinister. Oh and Pamela Stephenson sure was easy on the eyes.
Who else was freaked out when Annie turned into a cyborg?
Most terrifying thing I'd ever seen at that time.
So messed up! Saw it in the theater and my brother who was 4 had to go sit on my mom’s lap.
Gave me nightmares as a kid.
That and watership down freaked the hell out of me when I was younger.

I have always really liked Superman 3. It isn't as good as the first two but it's still great in my opinion. Now part 4 is a piece of dung.
One of my favorite movies. I love Richard Pryor and computers and the movie really got me into thinking I'd be a computer programmer and that is my career since 1996.
Gonna be honest, I love that Atari sequence...it looked great for the time and I'd still play the hell out of it now.
I like superman 3 because of Prior
7:40 Considering how successful and well-received the Deadpool movies are, I wonder how a stand-alone Rated R Superman film would have been received back in the early 1980's.
(I was just a little boy back at that time, so I don't remember how well R rated movies did back then.)
While definately being a gamble for it's time, it would have allowed Richard Pryor to go full force in his preformance.
Obviously, many parents at the time would have been outspoken about the idea: "This is supposed to be a family movie."
To address this, the marketing group would need to be up front with the matter:
"The previous two films are designed to be enjoyed by children, families, as well as adults.
This isn't a sequel to those films. This new film is a stand-alone adventure that is meant for the grown-up audiances who want to see Superman handle complex matters that would not be possible to portray in a PG-rated movie."
When it doesn't have the hype opening credits like the other 2 films, you knew it was fucked from the start.
Tonal, whiplash, seriously, ruinous.
Superman 3 was my favourite. The mass hae baffles me. I can understand preferring the original, but 2 was the worst of the 3 in my book. Wha do you mean 4? There were only 3.
Also worth noting that Annette O'Toole who played Lana Lang in this movie, also was a regular on Smallville who played momma Martha Kent.
2:59 Mr mick sill plick is how you pronounce it
I came here to simply correct his pronunciation.
I feel like my feet has been filled with Superman III videos lately which is weird! And that was before I started watching them in the algorithm did start serving them up to me!
Superman The Movie & Superman II were the best superhero movies ever made. Superman III & Superman IV The Quest For Peace were worse than horrendous.
Is that a deleted scene with Helen Slater and Reeves? Or an edit? I gotta know.
EXACTLY what I was thinking! C'mon someone.... answers we need ANSWERS!
It's a fan edit. Reeve never shot anything for *Supergirl.*
Only saw part 3 in pieces on cable originally.I remember when it was playing in the theater
I like Superman 3. Grew up with that movie as a child. Clark being crushed at the scrap yard and the Borg lady scared the hell out of me.
S-III is no doubt flawed, but the junk yard fight felt lore defining and the cyborg conversion was downright sinister. Oh and Pamela Stephenson sure was easy on the eyes.
