RIP. You can get the Public Strain reissue and a 12" of rarities. Pre orders are open now through Flemish Eye if yer in Canada. A vinyl copy will honor the lost.
Eugene Kuznetzov I could almost agree but Sonic Youth would never write something quite like the outro. And Kim is a little less present on bass than this.
Steve Meyer I disagree, the noisy and drone-y verses feel the most Sonic Youth to me. What part of Cross the Breeze sounds all jangly and stark like that? I think Lee and Thurston’s parts blend in a pretty different way and dance around one another less.
I discovered this band through the itunes store. I still wonder why I didn't buy the album, these guys are great. Feels a bit nostalgic. Well... better late than never.
I think that about the last song on the album this song is from. Oh well at least I have the full version of 'The Diamond Sea' on side 4 of The Destroyed Room vinyl.
why is this being posted now? this band released this in 2010. And they're broken up right? I'm pulling my hair out that I finally come across such a perfect sound and they're over.
Have you given Viet Cong a listen? Is the most similar I've heard since then... half the band were members of Women. But yeah, I'm also very sad that they broke up.
Tout les autres peuves seulement penser a Sonic Youth. merci bien and apologies for my shit french.
Thank you for this nice reaction to my comment. I agree, too often people have a superficial and caricatured apprehension of the sounds they hear, My approximate English is only that of the translator but as I am sensitive to your effort to write to me in French I could not do less.
Je perde mon francais que j'ai apris quand j'etais jeune :( Je faut essayer plus frequament! Check out Red Crayola's live en Paris 1979 esp the track 'X' -- you tube seems to have removed it!!! AUGH! Damnit
@Clément Fievet, the whole song is one big Sonic Youth tribute straight from Confusion is Sex. It's no less wonderful as a result. The Pitchfork intro and visuals, however, are embarrassing.
yall are forgetting the Swell Maps influence on the vocals (more apparent in the album version with the broken duet singing). The album version is more angular, can hear the dissonance against the harmonies better.
Love how out of tune the guitars are by the time they reach the outro, and then they play straight through the supposed-to-be melodic part like it’s nothing. Like walking through an aftermath regretting everything that’s happened.
Man, he's blaring on strings between the bridge and string plate. You try doing that and not going out of tune, but yeah it is kinda of a bummer, but they're still a great fuckin band. I miss their music.
rest in peace. I've listened to this song thousands of times, so sad that we'll never get anything like it again.
+Bryant unless you get SY back together to play some old material and get Epic Soundtracks and Nikki Sudden to do vocals together.

I’m trying to channel Mark and the rest of the Women in a new outfit rn in 2023. I feel them
Lol the camerawork here is legendary
This could easily end up on either 'EVOL' or 'Sister'
Eugene Kuznetzov I could almost agree but Sonic Youth would never write something quite like the outro. And Kim is a little less present on bass than this.
@@ultrahero2115 but the outro is the most Sonic Youth part???? i'm thinking cross the breeze especially

@@stevemeyer6343 or the ending of The Sprawl
@@stevemeyer6343 3:30 i can hear kim gordon’s voice over those guitars

same, found their first album on itunes in 2008 and have been listening ever since
Amazing...I'm glad I saw them live!
I envy you! :)
I want this sound to be made into an epic full side of a vinyl LP.

Now called Preoccupations.
Jestifer Chalice, thanks for the recommendation! Never heard of her/them before, but LOVING it now.
They didn't break up. The lead died in his sleep. RIP
@@xm1a1x they did break up, and the member who died (not super long after the break up) was Chris Reimer, the second guitarist, not pat flegel (lead)
i wouldnt mind if the end part went on forever
So good.
Fantastic, I miss them so much.
Remind me the 1st time I heard Joy Division back in the earlier 80's! Fantastic

Oh boy! every music made by Women is magical and always make me eargasm! I love this band so much ❤
The end is so Sonic Youth!!
so is the beginning like bull in the heather

ahhh!! girls screaming (anger, rage?) and discordant music!! bravo director, bravo
ooooohhh spooky bushwick! this band ruled though.
Love the music !!!!!!1
so raw
Does anyone have just the audio files to these Pitchfork video series?
Google youtube to mp3
could see them performing this at the Roadhouse
IF ONLY…
what guitar is the singer using?
tele
Louis Weil its a jazzmaster
***** To be fair both of the guitarists sing in this so you're both right

The opening reminded me of "ufo" by ESG, then the song turned into a updated Sonic Youth. You have my attention for now.
Reminds me of sonic youth
I could maybe see it
Honestly this would have been more enjoyable without the camera work...Honestly.
I disagree, I find that it’s visually dissonant and abrasive in a manner complimentary to the same dissonance and abrasion in the music itself
just zoom in and out and shake the camera it'll be totally badass bro just trust me
best fake Sonic Youth song i've ever heard
cindy lee before cindy lee
either someone's guitar is out of tune or some is a fret or two off during the 2nd half of this song. such a bummer because this track kills.
It's supposed to sound like that, one guitar is in Eb tuning and the other's in F#
it doesn't sound out of tune on the album, though. do you know why that is? i assume it's the same tuning here as on the album.
Idk man, doesn't sound bad to me
Man, he's blaring on strings between the bridge and string plate. You try doing that and not going out of tune, but yeah it is kinda of a bummer, but they're still a great fuckin band. I miss their music.
he is playing a guitar and it is out of tune and it ruins the song. End.
