I don't care to comment on their personal lives but as performers and artists, they both ranked with the best. Gena is beautiful and has such class. She is an elegant lady and played in so many different kinds of roles for which she has not been adequately recognized for. John was a genius whose work you viewed from afar and often wondered about. I hated it when he died. Gena also has some of the most beautiful and thick hair I've ever seen on a woman. To this day, I love her and hated it for her when her husband died. Many people love you Ms. Rolands and many more than you know are aware of John's contributions to the performing arts.

I loved his films, but one of my favorites of his performances is a Columbia episode, called “Etude in Black,” where he plays a orchestra conductor who murders his mistress so he doesn’t lose his financially comfortable, successful life, thanks to his wealthy wife (played by Blythe Danner). he doesn't seem like a prize of a husband or a father. He was also a big time alcoholic. Cassavetes died prematurely, aged 59. The cause was long-term cirrhosis brought on by longer-term alcoholism. He was a great director, but slapping an actress before a scene....? You should do that nowadays. You would be over. And Gena Rowlands putting up with all of his behavior, well.... - who are we to judge. Besides - I also thought Rowlands best movie was"Requim for a dream." She was flawless in that one.

Falk is magnificent playing Gena's husband in A WOMAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE, "she's just unusual" he keeps repeating to the neighbors, while Ben is outstanding in John's venture into film noir, THE KILLING OF A CHINESE BOOKIE, in the role of "Cosmo", an L.A. strip club owner who owes the mob his life. She hasn't described her 30 or so years with John as suffering. Why should strangers, just because a RUclips video says they were "different" from each other? When John was asked in an interview if he and Gena argued, his answer was: "“I believe that any two people who disagree should really go as far as they can, and I think we do: screaming, yelling, petty acts of hostility and cruelty - but it’s all meaningless. It’s meaningless if that essential love is there. Like a rubber band that you stretch out, no matter how far you pull it - and even if it stings snapping back - it returns, the love reappears.” They stayed together a long time. She was a strong woman, in her own right, and wouldn't have stayed with him until his death, if she didn't want to.

They were married around 30 years. She still spoke fondly of Cassavetes in the decades following his death. No one can judge a marriage from the outside, especially not based on a RUclips tabloid style video that describes their marriage as "troubled" and "hiding things". What does that even mean? Every single marriage has "private aspects", whether you are a celebrity or not. Because they don't share everything about their marriage to the public means they "hid" things? The headline is terrible and written to encourage clicks, when about the only thing the video says is that they were "different" from each other, in some ways. There are all kinds of successful marriages, ones where two people are alike in their personalities and tastes, and others where people are opposite in numerous ways. There is not one "successful formula".

He was handsome and intelligent and gifted but he was also a small man, at five feet seven inches, which is probably an exaggeration. I think that played a part in his anger issues, and in his self image. He resented that he was short, given that most Hollywood actors were far bigger and taller. He was an abusive jerk, and totally selfish. He was not some saint in any way. He was just a handsome actor film director who became a drunk and a cheat.

Were you his private psychiatrist? You are really projecting a lot and based on what - what you read in tabloids and RUclips videos such as this, which is a version of a tabloid headline/story. He acted just to get money to fund his scripts and movies he directed. So, why would he be jealous of taller actors, when acting was not even his passion in life? It was simply a necessity to get funding, because his movie scripts and ideas were "different" and not mainstream.

Harsh words for a 16 year to have to hear… but(t) I got over it before to picnic later in the afternoon. Apparently, some older ladies in the congregation thought my antics were interesting enough to invite over for dinner that evening.

I admire her very much. I think she was his muse ? Artists are complicated beings(I am one, so I should know). We don't know what went on once the doors were closed. Even regular people have an outward appearance they portray to the world, and their true, relaxed version of themself that very few if anyone ever sees. I dont doubt they had their differences. But it does say a lot, that they accomplished so much and loved one another very much. They were both great, but they were even better when they worked together.

What makes you think they have disappeared? Most of his movies are all on streaming platforms, such as Amazon Prime, Criterion Channel, Apple TV, etc. Those streaming services don't keep movies in their catalogue if no one watches. I just watched Gloria again on Prime, this week. Why would you think that no one sees them? Anyone who is interested in independent films most likely knows Cassavetes.
