I literally broke down crying at that part-- I held strong the whole while, but that got me! As someone who's also been reunited with their pet after a traumatic event, on seeing that family wail all those feelings of guilt and relief and just the-- the doubt that it's even real, like you feel like it's a trick or a mistake or it's just a delusion or an impostor in their place-- just the, sheer panic and joy and sadness just came rushing back and overflowed my eyes! 😭 I'm gonna go hug my cat!

Not only did he spend a good deal of his life monitoring foster children, he spends his retirement rescuing cats from trees that they climbed on their own volition but never factored the whole coming back down part. Dude is a true saint.

For my country they started issuing high fines for calls like these. As after multiple times of actual people trapped in vehicles after road accidents "we were not able to help or were occupied" as we were actually settling these kinds of problems. But as a Firefighter, I love to help but it's unfortunate how it turned out
Sadly the firefighters in my city WILL NOT rescue cats in trees. The captain told me they can climb down themselves. Plus they just dont do community service stuff like that anymore.
I had called a Fire Station to see if an off duty firefighter would do a charitable act for me by coming over and removing the remains of a deeply loved cat of mine I found drowned in a tall garbage can 2/3 full of water. I'm 67, w arthritis, short and did not have a scoop shovel. I was told Sorry and Good Luck.

This guy is an absolute Angel! He rescued my cat when no one else would & he refused to take a single cent from me. Not even gas money for coming out. He did it all from the kindness in his heart. ❤️

I wish more people were like that. I feel bad at the thought of charging a friend for a piece of art, let alone for helping them. Too many people think life is all about putting money in their pocket. So few people want to help without expecting to get paid.

The way their claws work, they can only climb up, but can't use them to climb back down. So if they climb higher than they can safely jump back down, (or high enough to kick in their fear instincts) then they're stuck. All they can do is holler for help.

@@phoenixflamegames1 I imagine normally they did it in dense tree tops and would jump to other trees and get down that way. But considering deforestation and the like, thats not as commom

This man PERSONALLY saved one of my cats. Her name is Pixie and she got stuck in a tree for about 2 days. He's an absolute BLESSING and angel on this earth ❤️ If you see this Normer, thank you so much !

I’ve rescued 6 or 7 cats out of trees, one kitten was in a tree for almost a week in freezing temperatures. I’m an arborist on Vancouver island and I actually want to put an ad out in the paper that I’ll get cats out of trees for free😎

We converted our back porch, and built a 200 Sq ft "Catio" we take care of 9 Kats and a Dog. Do it! :)

Raistlin, that is such a worthy thought, but I would also suggest you spend some brain cycles on what you might do most other people wanting to help animals might not think of or have the skills/training for. Do you have some veterinary or legal training, maybe? Are you a published writer? Do you have connections? Whatever!

This man is serious something else, the way he described his previous job “rescuing children”, then retiring and rescuing over 700 cats from trees, while also not charging for any of them!?! I almost adopted a cat that looked just like him. Was sad looking and had a few bad wounds, but once his cage was open all he wanted to do was hug🥺 he already had a home and was just waiting to be picked up which was awesome!! I'll miss little Athens he was the sweetest little man

I understand what he meant but the problem is in this world we need money in order to cater to our own necessities (food, water, rent, fuel, and in the case of this man, equipment)

My reaction to this: This man is awesome! He comes from my region! Also he doesn't need to charge for 2 reasons: 1, the joy that we hear coming from the owners when their cat is returned, and 2, the fact that he should be in EXCELLENT health from all this tree climbing up so high all the time.

I love cats soooo much but I've never understood how they are able to climb, but not able to come down on their own. Poor babies, it's so sad to see them helpless and scared.

Well they can't go back down like they came like humans can. Kitties have to go down face first sometimes. Can you imagine how intimidating that would be, especially if you don't notice how high up you are until you're ready to come back down?
@@slayer7682 No, it's because most of them are chasing something or just climbing for fun and not looking down, so they don't know how high they are climbing, so when they finally realize they are stuck there's nothing they can do.
They go up they come down ,just watched one of my 18ferals sit up top a 15ft pole ,bird watch, then come down,for food pan.
Their claws made them very good at climbing up, it can easily hook. Try reversing it for coming down, and you can see why.

I actually had to find a pay a cat rescuser after my cat was stuck in a very high tree for 10 days! The department of parks and recs. Came with their Boom truck and was unsuccessful, the firemen came and were unsuccessful. It actually took the cat rescuer 2 tries on two different days to save him. This story made me emotional my cat actually passed away on June 24 this year. We have a new furbaby now named Jamie Sue ❤️.

There ya go folks, the secret to a happy retirement. People who struggle with life after work, just aren't doing it right. Find something you love that makes you happy. The magic trick is to also find something that serves your community. I think this gentlemen must have known all along that he needed to continue to serve others. If gardening or woodworking or fishing isn't the answer, then you prolly need to look into volunteering. That human element means so much.
