Scottish Television (now, legally, known as STV Central Limited) is the ITV franchise for Central Scotland. The channel - the largest of the three ITV franchises in Scotland - has been in operation since 31 August 1957 and is the second oldest franchise holder still active (the oldest being Granada Television).
My next logo history will be on Rede Tupi, the first TV station to operate in Brazil.
4:54 Growing up I didn't realise the logo was supposed to be a thistle. I assumed it was a stick man with a punk rocker hair cut.
LOL now that you mentioned it, it kinda does

HOLY FIREBALLS!!! It's a thistle! It's from Scotland & it's a plant from nature.
Time to listen to Scotland the Brave~

Oh, I guess it turned out to be Scotland the Blast then. That was lovely. :-P
This is my favourite TV Channel! (I am from Scotland) 2009 was my favourite era of the channel but then in 2014, they replaced it with the new idents, and I was OK.
Great logo history video Jonty! Enjoyed it as always and chatting during the premiere was fun. :-)
Me too!

Do you have the unmuted version of the 50th anniversary ident?
In 1991, Scottish went unopposed in retaining its franchise. They were able to get away with bidding a mere £2,000 a year, plus 2% of their annual advertising revenue.
One thing that bugged me was having a cartoon on during nighttime programming because kids are never up at that time

2:13 wow, the STV Lion Rampart ident DID survived into the colour era.....
Can't believe STV is the longest running ITV franchise!
15:09 taken from a 📼 release of sherlock Holmes in the 22nd century.
STV's first logo kinda reminds me of Stretch Films or something else in influence to John R. Dilworth, even though he didn't start animating until 1982.
Sort of reminds me of the Addams Family for some reason.
The current logo (and its 1970's variant) is a guy who's either praying or puking.
I'm an STV guy myself mainly because it's my region but once in 1993 we got Grampian for some unknown reason
It was the 1970's logo I remember best. You forgot the 1984 New year logo. The Stv 70's logo rotated with new year 84 on it. But a good compilation. I remember likening the S logo to that of the British Steel logo.
@@derekporter7658 Course, I won't always include every variant, mostly ones I consider my favorites, but I'm glad you liked it regardless. Thanks for watching.

5:11 One, roll.
9:46 i've never seen the 1985 thisle used outside the 1985 logo before. neat!
God those early 2000s logos are so relaxing.
They are!
It's also kind of fascinating how they talk about the news that happened at the time.
@@saph100 Yeah, including one where a woman announces the death of the Queen Mother in 2002. It's quite interesting.
Much love from the US. If only I saw the Queen in the parade crowds one last time although I was a tad bit young to travel there at the time.

There’s a possibility I might recall some of these logos because when I was little I lived in London for a certain period of time.
4:00 Sound like from Grampian TV
Nice meme at the end

The logo used during the 1980s and 1990s is supposed to be a thistle. Personally, I don't see it.
What are your favorite logos from Scottish Television?
The 1965, 1985 and 1989 idents are my favourites.
1985, 1989, 1993, 1996, 2000, 2003, 2006, 2009 and 2014.
The last one makes me bagpipe vibes (at the end)
2014 ident.
The 1965 spinning lion ident & the 1985 thistle ident are my favourites
This is the best part if you know what I mean in this button 1:11
2000 isn't really a logo...I assume their letterhead was different for corporate stationery.

2:13 Doesn't the theme sound like it northen brother, Grampian?
It's 'Scotland the Brave' so it's unsurprising that both channels used it from time to time.
i like the one at 10:25
